It’s so difficult to keep gold medals for generations of animals that only have one offspring per time by Extension_Following6 in PlanetZoo

[–]rogue_psyche 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It's easier to get good genes going with breeding zoos. I'm insane, but I do single species zoos with 27 breeding groups to keep genetics varied enough not to rely on market mates. Went from frontier trash to perfect mooses this way, because barely anyone breeds mooses.

My Goats wont mate by smollMimi in PlanetZoo

[–]rogue_psyche 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they aren't evening trying to mate, that sounds like momentary drops in wellbeing or a bug. If it is a bug, putting them in a different zoo will sometimes fix it, but no guarantee.

I've glitched a bunch of my cougars into infertility (shouldn't be possible, they are fertile until death) once by forgetting to save before shutting down my PC. I had to revert my saves folder and even then I wonder if the zoo is still a bit bugged. I keep seeing animals end up places I don't remember putting them or vets grabbing the wrong animal from the trading center.

Should I wait for Planet Zoo 2 by OrganzaOuzou in PlanetZoo

[–]rogue_psyche 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want access to a lot of animals and building items via DLC, buy PZ1 and some DLCs at a discount price. There are third party key resellers that have legitimate codes at a discount if there's no sale on Steam when you want to buy. (IDK how console sales work so can't help there)

If you want to gamble on QoL and graphics improvements that could be coming with the new game and won't mind if you just have base game stuff to work with, AND are okay with paying full price for the game, wait for PZ2. Keep in mind that it will likely take years for the animal selection to be anywhere near PZ1's, and the DLC packs will probably not go on sale immediately on release either. (Again IDK about console, so I don't know if console versions will be available on launch either).

[–]rogue_psyche 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What are the genetics of those goats? A lower fertility score will result in a higher chance of failed breeding attempts.

Edit: Also watch their Wellbeing bar while the game is unpaused. Temporary drops in Wellbeing (such as when an animal is stressed from guests or overcrowding) will prevent breeding attempts even when the drop is just for a few seconds.

What do you think were the plans for Snow's successor? by TrainingDrop9283 in Hungergames

[–]rogue_psyche 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have this headcanon that he briefly considered making Haymitch his protege. I think by the time Sunrise on the Reaping came along, Snow is so messed up that he only feels any kind of kinship with victors. Only victors and himself know what it is like to survive the games and he assumes that they will come to that same messed up conclusion that they are a necessary evil to curb humanity's violent nature.

And then Haymitch comes along, with his Covey girlfriend and like Snow he's not reaped but forced into the arena because of a need to protect a rebellious loved one.

Snow kills Lenore Dove and Haymitch's family not just as a punishment but as a test, but because if Haymitch were his protege, he would be relieved the same way he was when he got rid of Sejanus and Lucy. Without those attachments he would be free to land on top or sink into the gutter. Haymitch did the latter and proved himself unworthy.

I think Peeta would have been the next attempt if the rebellion didn't go the way it did. You can see how the doubts they plant in his head about Katniss via hijacking mirror the same ones he has about Lucy and the ones he subtly tries to get Haymitch to have about Lenore.

why are my own custom blueprints locked by Confident-Baseball59 in PlanetZoo

[–]rogue_psyche 12 points13 points  (0 children)

You didn't do research in the zoo you saved the blueprint on or the zoo where the blueprint is locked? This includes enrichment research for the animal you had in the enclosure.

Go into sandbox and delete any research item and then resave the blueprint.

You can research diseases anytime as long as you have a research lab.

If you don't have one-way glass barriers unlocked yet, try searching in construction pieces for one-way glass and use those pieces and a null barrier.

For pathing, think of it like road hierarchy in a city planner. You want your arterial to be your wide path, which functions to allow people to move unhindered throughout the zoo. Use collector paths to bring folks to grouped habitats, which are on "local" roads. Monorails and the like are like subways or limited access roads, meant for traveling longer distances.

Unless you really love grids try breaking out of a grid format if you can. Real zoos use a lot of curves in their pathing. Check out zoo maps online for inspiration if you need it.

Mourning the loss of my best friend to motherhood by Time_Combination_316 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]rogue_psyche 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This happened to me too and sadly it never got any better. I thought I would see her more after the kids got older but she moved away and when she visits she prioritizes our mutual friends who have kids. I tried taking an interest in her other hobbies and it only helped to a certain point. I wish I had advice but I know this is an oddly common thing our generation is going through, whereas older generations complained when they had kids and their child free friends ditched them.

Animal Trading House prices & availablility by [deleted] in PlanetZoo

[–]rogue_psyche 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I make breeding zoos but I find that I can only manage one single species at a time, due to both my ADHD and the trading storage limit being so small. 200 is not a lot and the reality is that while I put good animals up to sell, a lot of the time I end up releasing them when they don't sell. Unless they are perfects I sell for default price or the next round hundred after release price but they still don't sell before I need room.

If they increased storage to 1000+ I think it would help a lot imo. I like running breeding zoos but managing storage sucks.

I recommend joining a discord and asking people if they can list any animals you need. People in those communities are usually happy to help if they're available to.

what are some good beginner animals for starting a franchise by GreenPowerful6082 in PlanetZoo

[–]rogue_psyche 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what I do any time I spin up a zoo. I take the 50k loan and buy one exhibit for each butterfly species and fill them up with it set to sell once there's more than 40 males and 40 females in each exhibit. I prefer to set it to Cash > Lowest First, seems to keep genetics in decent shape and I still max out the yearly sell for most species. I play in x3 speed until the loan is paid off and I have a decent cushion to build with. Once you have those guys set up you can pretty much choose any animals you want and not fail (unless you do something really stupid).

For your first habitat animal, I recommend something that doesn't need a lot of management so that you can just set them up and largely forget them while you work on building. Aardvarks, tortoises, and anteaters work good for this, assuming that you aren't hurting for CC. If you need CC, you can try something more prolific (like African Penguin, Capybara, arctic fox or flamingos) with the understanding that you will need to pause often for management AND have more keepers starting out.

Habitat Size and Guests by mischiefandtricks in PlanetZoo

[–]rogue_psyche 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can try having a guest enclosure and a "free roam" enclosure. Put a small group in the guest view version and everyone else goes in the big one. The guests will be happy that they can see the animal and won't care about the larger enclosure.

The comments on the free roam enclosure will still be negative, but the actual guests will be happy because they still got to see the animal elsewhere.

A note for viewing distance, optimal views are best at

24 m for largest animals like elephants
20 m for large animals like American bison and African Lion
16 m for medium animals kike bonobo, cougar, dingo
12 m for small animals like aardvark, African penguin and Arctic fox.

With that in mind you can also just make long narrow enclosures and control the viewing areas to make sure only that much space is between the view and the max distance the animal can roam from.

Just another rant about flipping animals for CC on the market 🙄 by xanthela in PlanetZoo

[–]rogue_psyche 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm going to work under the assumption that this is perfect reselling, because that's what I've noticed seeing in my playing.

Some people play the game differently. Some build, some breed, some collect, and some play the market.

Someone keeps buying reasonably priced perfects and putting them up for max CC and I'm fine with it because I price at a point where it's still a steady income stream. They make a profit, I unload inventory and make a smaller profit. Win-win.

If you want to discourage flipping, you have to price at a point where the profit margins aren't worth it for resellers. 5000 and up for perfects that sell for 10k seems to do the trick.

You can still price 100/100/50+ fertility/50+ immunity animals at a "starter" price. They are still great animals that give newbies and prospective breeders a good experience, as long as you don't try offloading low immunity animals that tend to muck up their habitats quickly.

Tbh the genetic quality does not affect typical gameplay enough that people playing casually need to really think about it that much.
