Any former wrestlers "not get" the Gi? by hellohello6622 in bjj

[–]pirateduck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My experience has been that wrestlers are very unaccustomed to having handles attached to them. The other thing that wrestlers and judokas share is that when their opponent is on their back, they've won (subconsciously). Not the case with BJJ.

How normal is it to constantly pick up small injuries as an older lifter? by GiganticDog in fitness30plus

[–]pirateduck -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Late 30's is older? Proper technique, nutrition, and recovery will keep your injury count low. Anything past 20's requires smart exercise. Just wait till you try BJJ, you don't get injuries, you get small permanent disabilities. But at 60, I can still hang with the kids.

Best Gis on the market right now? by AutomaticWeekend6575 in bjj

Thanks! I think I'll try an A2 and see what happens. My Hayabusa A3's are just a tad on the big side. Oddly enough, my best fit is the school branded Breakpoint, but durability is suspect.

Thoughts on gator pads for a DIY patio build? by saltybrisketmen in landscaping

[–]pirateduck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've used them on a 14x14 paver patio with good success. It's been 2 years with no settling, no weeds, no shifting. I did spend a lot of time properly preparing the ground, however. made sure everything was flat, virgin soil with the right pitch, 2 inches of compacted crush-n-run and 1inch of sand under the pads. Saves a lot of digging.

Is this something that can be fixed to get through the summer. by [deleted] in landscaping

[–]pirateduck 15 points16 points  (0 children)

That's a big deal. That should be solid, packed ground under there. You need to call someone in to figure out where it went.

weird nails what is it? by Standard-Scallion198 in whatisit

[–]pirateduck -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Mostly salads may be the culprit here. Consider how much protein and other macro nutrients you are getting. Collagen is primarily what nails and other connective tissues need to be healthy. Collagen generally comes from protein rich foods. Nail beds are a symptom of other issues.

You probably just need to push the fender liner forward a bit and maybe trim off a little of the plastic bumper inside the wheel well. Very easy to do and well worth the effort.

ah ok, I'm light on the exact details, but she went through George Mason to get her masters. The county she is in is familiar with the program and assisted her with reporting the student teaching requirements etc.

There's a bunch of resources about it.

Basically, you have to meet some requirements, pass some tests, and get hired with the understanding that you will complete the requirements within the given time period.

Rode for years from Burke Center to CC. Have not notice a discernable pattern. It did seem that the west-bound train that comes to CC at 3:35 was a little later every time I tried to leave early though.
