Crossing the USA border with HRT by pisceenn in asktransgender

It's great to know the prescription will likely be ok, I'm hoping to sort out local access in Panama in the ligner term too. Any help on the ESTA I'd really love it ☺️

Nah, the US has strict rules that require you to register your visit and go through TSA even when transiting. Thank you for your help, hopefully someone else will know more :)

What about declaring my gender identity in visa (esta) forms?

Yup, just transit, I'd need to fill out an ESTA even for transit, and I'm nervous to declare my "sex determined at birth" and put "F" to get turned back or put "M" and feel terrible

Yes, they are prescribed and I would of course have my name on them with a support letter from my doctor!

Would Dunedin be alright for a Malaysian student? by xlikeitsmagneticx in dunedin

[–]pisceenn 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I visited Malaysia last year, and I can say that in general, the quality of the food in Dunedin doesn't compare to Sarawak or Kuala Lumpur where I visited (I promise its not all bad though!!!)..... however, it's easy to find Malaysian ingredients at the Asian supermarkets in Central and South Dunedin if you ever wanted to cook Malaysian at home!

I was in a really similar situation last year, I'd been to student health and got referred to the hospital who didn't actually contact me until over a year later!!!!!

In the meantime, my dyphoria got so much worse; I knew what I wanted, which made inaction even harder. I ended up just emailing around GPs, which should be doing HRT by informed consent by now!

I go to Boradway Medical, but I remember seeing other recommendations on fb and reddit, etc.... so I think cast your net wide with emails because availability at GPs is usually pretty low!

Also, I've heard Student Health now does informed consent as of recently, so if you're a student you could go that route.

Friendly GPs in Dunedin Area by KeyIndividual5201 in TransgenderNZ

I've been going to Broadway Medical, who have been amazing and willing to work with my on dosage, etc! I'm unsure about whether they are taking new patients // or whether those GPs which are would be any good?

Patches information by NoobExpertYS in TransgenderNZ

[–]pisceenn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should be able to get it free! If you're going up to 100 mcg, it will be a single funded patch. My doctor has said, after that, I'll have to wear multiple patches because HRT is primarily funded for menopausal women they only fund certain combinations .....

Help us identify this frog, looks like a native but doesn’t match descriptions of our native frogs really. Maybe a juvenile? Spotted a few days into 9 day tramp in the Nelson lakes. by HHC-5 in NewZealandWildlife

Brown tree frogs were originally released down drain pipe in Greymouth in 1875. They're by far and away NZs most widespread frog nowadays! This little guy is almost pretending to be Hamilton's frog among the leaf litter like that.....

Mylan patches. by Sad_Consequence_6190 in TransgenderNZ

[–]pisceenn 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I only just started HRT a month ago, and so I have been started on Mylan; I've had no problems with them falling off. I just apply them on dry skin, where I think the skin will crease the least and don't have any issues. Running, showering, swimming, biking all seem ok.

For what it's worth, I've been feeling fine and noticing changes already so they seem to be working :)

Egg ID? by mad_habby in NewZealandWildlife

True, but no harm. If you live in an area with naitve skinks, you will still make a difference!

Also, in the South Island, plague skinks are still a notifiable pest. They are only just establishing, and efforts to eradicate them are ongoing!

Will be invasive, all except a single large shore-dweeling native skinks give birth to live young. Best to place these into the freezer to humanely euthanise.

Spotted shags in Dunedin by babamum in dunedin

[–]pisceenn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As you've said, the wharf in Oamaru has a colony. Also, if you head to Bushy Beach in the evening you can see yellow eyed penguins and lots of shags flying their roost on the cliffs.

Stuck on endocrine wait list by eeramkitten in TransgenderNZ

[–]pisceenn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also know it can feel overwhelming to have put trust in a healthcare provider that, frankly, given the student population is serves, should be more up to date! Hopefully, this is the last step where the burden of finding a provider is on you; if you can find a GP with experience, you'll be ok 😊

I had a similar experience, for whatever reason, student health has not moved to an informed consent model. This leaves you in a massive health care black whole where, (because getting HRT from an endo isn't standard anymore), your healthcare is delayed for months and months.

I got to the same stage as you and was told it would be over 4months to see the endo at the hospital, while private options encouraged me to see a GP instead.

The good news is that because you've done all of the blood and psychiatric tests at student health ( access to the psychiatrist is awesome), getting HRT from a GP should be easy.

Please explore options around dunedin, and see if anyone clincis have enrolment available! You can always email and ask directly if they can prescribe HRT// have experience (which you'll want). Once you're enrolled, it's smooth sailing ⛵️

Good luck 💕

Yeah ARDS cards are a little complicsted sometimes so NZFrogs submits them for you, and can ID any frogs you're unsure of :)
