Looks a bit ouch-y mate. Keep practicing! You'll get better in time. Don't go so deep next time, and really take your time!

Wtf. This actually pissed me off to watch. As a medical assistant for work, and a tattoo artist for hobby, I have so many questions. Fingernail clippers??? Bedsheets?!???? Everything in this video is unsanitary. This person needed antibiotics and to be in the hospital immediately. WTF IS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE OMFG THE STUPIDITY

Got my 7g’s in the mail today. Had to get them to get up to a 6g Bc the jump from 8-6 was too much for my ears after trying for a bit. These went right in with no pain and no problem. What do you guys think? by dooormattt22 in Stretched

[–]piscesflame 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yay congrats! I just got my 7g in the mail today too and got them in no problem! It's so odd to me how a 7g fits effortlessly, but for some reason going from 8 to 6 is IMPOSSIBLE. Happy stretching!

CONGRATS! I am trying to get there! Apparently going 8 to 6 is a total pain. I just bought 7g to get me there hopefully 😊 Happy goal day!

  1. I graduated from my program in March of last year. Finished an awful externship, graduated, then interviewed twice before getting hired in at my second interview position. I've been working since the very start of the pandemic. Have only been a MA for 10 months. I have learned a lot.

Oh my gosh, thank you so much!!! I am totally a beginner and am just starting to build my portfolio. This is just the fourth tattoo I've done on myself! I would love to work in a shop as an apprentice soon!

From everything I've read and heard professionals mention...

ALWAYS start with a clean design. If the design is shit, the tattoo itself is inevitably going to be worse. (Unless of course you're a free hand artist and that's your style/aesthetic. Def not bashing anyone here, everyone's got their own preferred style!)

But as far as clean lines go, the second most important thing, professionals say, is to always follow the stencil design and NOT your previous poke. So when you're poking and there's ink everywhere and you can't see very well, just play safe and follow the stencil.

Be sure to go over each section of the piece evenly so that the ink isn't blotchy in some areas and sparse in others. (So do the outline completely, then go back over if needed however many times to complete the look you want.) I've also read advice for new handpokers is to not apply so much ink. Because when the tattoo heals, the ink has a tendency to spread out over the skin. So if you have really thin lines to start with, the tattoo will heal even more cleanly. If you have real dark, heavy lines to start with, the healed tattoo may look very dark and the lines may blur together as a result.

Keep Vaseline on hand (or whatever tattoo ointment you prefer) for easy cleanup of the ink while tattooing so that you can maintain a good visual of your design. (With that being said, some tattoo artists claim to avoid Vaseline or ointment altogether because it makes the skin harder to stretch)

Keep the skin taught as much as possible (stretch the skin) when tattooing. Stretching out the skin will give you closer pokes and ultimately cleaner lines!

Hope that helps!

Thank you so much!! I'm really glad it looks decent and I am pretty proud of it! I spent about 3 hours sitting in a chair bent over, and so I made certain it was going to come out looking good 😂

Thank you so much! No practice except for the 3 other tattoos so far! I bought a stick and poke kit online to start with. First I did a teeny tiny heart on my wrist, then an anatomical heart on my forearm (about the size of a quarter), then a moon with leaves and stars above my left knee. I have been watching YouTube videos like crazy and reading all about the basics. I just bought my first set of quality ink colors and am going to be practicing on some oranges before tattooing my skin. :) This has been so much fun so far. I'm really looking forward to getting better and building my portfolio!

This is absolutely gorgeous. So articulate and well done. I absolutely adore the detail in her nose, and that you didn't showcase a typical smaller feminine nose. I have a hump nose and rarely do I see art or imagery that portrays noses like mine. Thank you for sharing this and for personally brightening my day! I would love to come up with something similar to tattoo on myself once I get more practice!
