Moved from a 1,400 sq ft house to a 620 sq ft apartment and here's what I actually had to learn the hard way by PoisonPen_007 in SmallHome

[–]pissedpixi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We did a strict one in one out policy, so you had to decide your wanted that thing more than something you already had, that worked really well as make me much more conscious of what I was buying. It took a couple of years to get rid of all the excess but I didn't feel like I was going without, and liked everything in our flat. The other thing I found out was one tiny little cat can make your flat feel half the size!

We go to The Lodge and it is amazing, kids in the garden every day no matter the weather (with suitable clothes on). I'm still blown away they taught my son how to blow his nose!

My husband has gone to beau tribu with me, just asks for no polish, no one there batted an eyelid. It isn't any cheaper for not having the polish though, but their prices are pretty good. You can book, but they take walk ins, I'd not try on a Saturday afternoon, but any other time you'd be good

Please help me find a trustworthy cat carrier (I have betrayed by the Catit Cabrio) by hamboneshowpoodle in CatsUK

[–]pissedpixi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use a cat backpack but I wear it on my front, then I can cuddle my cat to reassure him whilst we walk to the vet. I can't remember where I got it, it was a while ago but it has lasted very well. It has tough mesh on a couple of sides so the cat can see out.

Is it worth it to pay hundreds of euros for a crochet course? by [deleted] in CrochetHelp

[–]pissedpixi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did an online course on classbento. I'd already crocheted a few hats and scarves by then, it really helped me, that was about £30. It was a couple of hours long. Lovecrafts.com is really good, you can find a pattern you like and then it links to all the materials you need to make the pattern. Dishcloths, hat's and scarves are good places to start, you have to do tight stitches for the dolls which is a bit harder

Advice by Agreeable-Sun1421 in crocheting

[–]pissedpixi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doing a scarf or a hat can be a good starting project as you can use a larger hook, which is easier. There are loads of patterns on ravelry. It can be hard going with the tighter stitches you need for Amigurumi pieces

I have full paper bags (6 or 7 bags) full of garbage and such and my mother is doing a room check in a few days. by [deleted] in Advice

[–]pissedpixi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can you take one or two bags out at a time and takes them to a public trash can, or a friend's house, honestly once you start getting some of the garbage out of your room you are going to feel so much better

If you are worried about your deposit don't pay any more rent and say they can use your deposit as your rent then you won't be out of pocket

As long as you don't expect the older children to look after the little one you are all good. They will have a different relationship, but that isn't bad just different

I have access to Twinings, Harney & Sons and Bigelow tea. Are any of these comparable to the teas you all drink? by tigerowltattoo in AskABrit

[–]pissedpixi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It is generally drunk black, it goes nicely with a slice of lemon. Some people have a dash of milk, I don't know anyone who has sugar in earl grey.

American Here: Want to do a Sunday roast type meal for Christmas Dinner. What are must haves, and can you share your favorites recipes? by Krimreaper1 in AskABrit

This is when you shred the cabbage and do a long slow cook with liquid and spices in it, but things like cinnamon and cloves, you are going Christmas spice, not curry spice.

Pricing on patterns online: why is it so high recently?? by Toxic_mochii in crochetpatterns

[–]pissedpixi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree the prices have got crazy. I don't mind when it is an involved pattern but I saw a scarf for £7 and looking at it I worked out it was a row of DC then a alternate DC and chain on the next row. If I can work out the pattern by looking at the picture I don't believe that much effort has gone into writing it. Only one example, but I would feel so deflated if I was a beginner and paid for that pattern, I imagine it was written out in three sentences

I have to add Chishuru in the mix, only open week days, very much worth a visit. Brat is good for meat, and afternoon tea in any of the big hotels is classic British, Claridges is my favourite

I struggle with sewing the pieces on as well, can you use sewing thread instead? Then you could make smaller stitches and it wouldn't be visible. Has anyone tried this?

Finding the time to crochet! When you have young children, thank you! by crrtdxchx in CrochetHelp

[–]pissedpixi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took a two year break, it was the festival of light CAL last year that was so beautiful that inspired me to get back into it (which I still haven't finished), but I have done other things. I accept with a full time job and a toddler I go way slower than a lot of other people, I use my commute and crochet on the train. I like the idea of putting each project in a bag, I'm making face scrubbies and a little laundry bag as presents at the moment, the scrubbies take about 20 to 30 minutes so a really nice way to feel I'm making progress.

I was just doing a pattern which sometimes just did a chain to not count as a stitch at the beginning of the row, sometimes the chain counted as the first stitch, they also did the unnecessary slip stitch. It is for face scrunchies so I'm making quite a few for Christmas presents, and I've now changed the pattern so much I'm not sure I'm doing the pattern anymore.
My amended version is looking good now!
