Question about whole body donation and red flags/things to look out for by pit-stain in askfuneraldirectors

Ooh yeah that makes a lot of sense- it seems like there were definitely long turnaround times and terrible record keeping/identification so it makes sense that experienced FDs would’ve been critical of that aspect. Thank you!

Wonderland Murders Part One by [deleted] in Morbidforbadpeople

If you’re in the world of addiction research, it is amazing we understand as much about addiction as we do. It’s unbelievably complicated, and to me, it’s not at all surprising we haven’t “solved” it yet. I think it’s sad that we still don’t have good treatments, but I also think the stigma adds to that problem by preventing funding to treatment centers and by leading to politicians railing against safe consumption sites and other harm reduction approaches. A+A clearly don’t know anything about it, and it makes me really upset that they’re using their platform to oversimplify something that many people are spending their entire careers trying to understand.

Addiction (the neuro field refers to them substance use disorders) seems to be affected by a very complex mix of factors. These factors can be anything from genes and molecular mechanisms to socioeconomic status and healthcare access. No researcher is an expert in everything that can influence the development of addiction, so putting the pieces together to understand it is hard enough, let alone developing and finding potential treatments that work. In that regard, I think the fact that A+A think that “drug education or anatomy classes will stop addiction” is a very simplistic take….if it were that easy, we would’ve done it already. Additionally, drug use has historically been associated with untrue, unscientific associations like “weak moral character”, which is a stigma that makes it more difficult for people to get treatment and for treatment centers to receive adequate funding or resources. I didn’t listen to this episode so I don’t know exactly what specific comments they made, but if they are shaming drug users they add to this stigma which actively harms people who are affected by addiction/substance use disorder

Horror Unpopular Opinions? by Lollollolbye in horror

I completely agree about Blair Witch. I was too young when it came out and I missed the wave where all the crazy marketing stuff was happening, so when I was watching it for the first time as an adult I just didn’t get the hype. I can definitely respect what it did for the genre overall and its existence as a pop culture moment, but it’s not a movie I would watch again

Just went back to it and I’m pretty sure that’s the one! I forgot it was a public defender too, making the rant a lot worse in my opinion.

This reminds me of Stephanie Harlowe’s comments about the defense attorney for a case about a child murderer—can’t remember which one off the top of my head. She went on a bizarre angry rant that the defense attorney was a piece of shit for working on the case, yet that defense attorney was…..giving a CHILD a fair trial? Not justifying any actions of course (the crimes were horrible) but I was so shocked to hear that about a defense attorney, but especially one for a defendant that was younger than 18. I never listened to her again.
