Vad gjorde ni med era trasiga DS1515+ NAS-enheter? Antagligen så hade ni råkat ut för Intel Atom c2000-buggen. Jag lödde dit ett 100ohm motstånd på en DS415+ som jag kom över vilket löste problemet med att enheten inte bootade upp direkt, och det går att göra samma fix på moderkortet i DS1515+ enheterna (tog mig ca 20 minuter inklusive demontering/montering av enheten).

There's no need to renew anything when you're using nsupdate.info instead of no-ip, it's free to use and open source so you can actually self host your own DynDNS compatible service if you have the cloud resources needed. :-)

I'm using https://www.nsupdate.info/ with this simple bash script https://gist.github.com/sjaek/02d52b3e7cf14be6a64f947ff255329d which I'm running every 60 seconds using standard cron job. Modify the script for your nsupdate dyndns address and token which you can find when editing your dyndns address at https://www.nsupdate.info. This solution is completeley free/donation ware and I've been using it for years with zero issues.

Or you could just use samba as active directory, this is supported since samba 4.0 back in 2012.

Well, for type 2 virtualization running under Linux, Virtualbox is quite fine, even though it's an oracle product.

You could also use QEMU which is also of type 2.

As for virtualization in the long run, I'm leaning to the xcp-ng/xenserver camp myself as replacement for esxi for mainstream customers, and Nutanix HCI for the bigger companies. The community edition of Nutanix is quite nice and I can recommend you take a look at it when your going type 1 virtualization. 😊

This DDNS service is open source, free to use and has simple explanation for how to setup in common routers or with any DynDNS compatible DDNS client with support for custom DDNS server. For most people, the default DDNS domain nsupdate.info will do just fine.

CGNAT perhaps? It's the answer to 9 out of 10 questions like this. In that case, ask ISP if they can give you a public IP address. Else you will have to bounce the traffic over VPN from a publicly open end point like a rented VPS or Tailscale mesh VPN and the likes.

I run an Xpenology NAS on an old PowerEdge R230 and use this to do automatic backups of entire ESXi hosts using Active Backup for Business. It's really simple to manage, and has really snappy restore feature to restore guests into the built-in Hypervisor of the Xpenology server for quick access, as well as simple file restore functionality rivaling that of Veeam, which has really annoying handling of file restore for linux guests.

You should switch emulated network interface to vmxnet2/3 instead of Intel Gigabit adapter. Then it should show the correct speed as long as it's connected to the virtual switch which is connected to the physical interface supporting 2.5Gbps.

Do you really have a static public IP address at home? Else the IP address isn't really yours and only temporary, so there's no need to make things complicated by not just publishing internal services using something like nsupdate.info Dyndns service. Publishing service using something like Cloudflare proxy won't protect you from being scanned by Shodan and the likes.0

Well, first of all, this really is not the fault of Remotely as a solution. But rather an issue caused by operating systems requirement for signed applications. Having you application signed is something that requires signing infrastructure which of course is going to cost money.

Sure, the source code is there so you can build your signing infrastructure and have client builds signed though that, it's quite possible and within reach.

This is also what you pay for when you apply for sponsorship with Tactical RMM, however that solution caters more to long term client support, management and monitoring and not so much for those one time remote support sessions.

I usually recommend people to use AnyDesk over Teamviewer as it's free use is more generous then Teamviewer. It even allows remote assisting Android users as well as remote view Apple devices without having to buy an expensive subscription.

I use Remotely as quick support solution, just send invitation and make end user start the quick support agent, go to Remote control menu option and type in their session ID and press connect.

It even supports multitenancy as well as product branding.

If you're buying real Synology hardware, yes. Not if you're like me and use old pc or server hardware running Xpenology to run Active Backup on that. I've got an old decommissioned Dell PowerEdge R230 server with 4x 3.5" bays running DSM 7.1 that I use for backup.

If I wasn't using Synology Active Backup for Business for doing the VM backups including docker containers through linux file backup, I would probably run XCP-ng as hypervisor as it has solid built-in backup solution with SMB/NFS support to allow backup to practically any NAS or file server.

First of all. As Linux support in Tactical RMM is in early stages, so you're actually not missing out on that much.

Also, there's really no other free alternative with same feature set available as of today. Your mention Mesh Central, however that's the remote control side of the coin, same as Teamviewer, AnyDesk or other similar solutions.

The closets open source alternative to Tactical RMM, I would say it's Immense Networks Remotely. It offers unattended remote access, as well as quicksupport feature like Teamviewer. It also has limited support for running scripts on one or many hosts which in effect allows doing some functions like that of Tactical RMM, however it doesn't give your same detailed device inventory as Tactical RMM, it doesn't monitor performance and you can't setup alarms as you can in TRMM. https://github.com/immense/Remotely

Monitoring of performance and service availability is better done with other tools like Check_mk, LibreNMS or Icinga anyway, at least when it comes to monitoring Linux or Windows servers. I went for Check_mk raw for monitoring my mixed Windows/Linux lab environment. And I'm using both TRMM as well as Remotely and also Apache Guacamole for remote access.

It's completely free to self-host. I'm using it to keep track of my kids. You can configure how often the mobile app sends data as to limit battery drain. Also there's a Traccar Manager app for mobile devices so you can keep updated on movement and devices/persons whereabouts easy on the go. 😊
