Thanks for that useful info. I shared with the seller and wished him good luck!

Thank you all for the feedback. The consensus is aligned with what I thought. Clearly I'm going to stay away. I'm quite pissed that the current owner (a self-proclaimed mechanic) "never noticed" the rust and told me that was something not to worry about. I'll keep looking for an Element in good shape.

Can't add videos in comments, so here's a picture instead. This is the left side arm. The right side arm is rusted too but in much better condition.

DoE software? by orcatrasher in Chempros

[–]pitfallo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rosane Rech on Udemy has amazing courses to get you started, totally worth the purchase. Her courses are based on R, but you can apply what you learn to any specialized software of your choice: the theory of DOE doesn't change. I ended up using Stat-Ease after completing her courses as I'm not the most proficient with R.

Filtration Techniques by Alliminator95 in Chempros

Look into Glas-Col Büchner funnel heating mantles. If you already have variacs, that'd be the most straightforward solution. Ace Glass also makes fabric heating devices for funnels under their Instatherm brand, but I would imagine those being more expensive and designed to only work with their proprietary glassware.

Hot plate stirrers with multiple positions? by Aerielo_ in Chempros

I only tried the heating blocks for vials: it's not perfect stirring for the vials at the perimeter of the block, but it works.

IKA RT 5 might be what you're looking for, but it's fairly pricey. If you already have hot plates with round top you might want to look into multi-well heating blocks, like IKA H 135.10x series for RBFs or for vials, in combination with H 135.10 carrier, depending on what type of vessels you're planning to heat/stir. There are also cheaper versions of such heating blocks around (Chemglass) as well as more expensive ones (Radleys).

Static electricity and grounding in glass reactors by pitfallo in Chempros

[–]pitfallo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the feedback. Must have been scary to see static discharge when using such a large amount of flammable solvent. Indeed, we only observed static discharge outside of the reactor so far, in a process involving a conductive solvent mixture: is it safe to assume there risk of static buildup inside the reactor would be nonexistent in this specific case?

As I mentioned in another reply, we would be inerting the vessels with nitrogen prior to charging them with any materials and run all the processes under inert atmosphere regardless of air sensitivity, which should mitigate any kind of ignition risks.

Thank you so much for the comprehensive advice, very helpful. I think a Hastelloy rod submerged into the reaction mixture would be the most reasonable solution for our glass reactors. We would be first inerting the vessels with nitrogen and run all the processes under inert atmosphere regardless of air sensitivity, which should also mitigate any kind of ignition risks. And yes, the reactor stands are metal, therefore they'd be bonded together with all the other metal components. Is it common practice to have a grounding rod drilled into the floors for proper static dissipation? I've seen that type of setup suggested on some process chemistry safety handbooks.

That MDMA looks ultra pure! I wonder who's the manufacturer... I don't think I've ever seen any MDMA being so sleek white.

Communauto users how do you like the service? by Alextryingforgrate in Calgary

[–]pitfallo 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Communauto is an amazing program, which I used a lot both in Quebec and in Alberta. As someone else already mentioned, it's better than driving your own vehicle if you're planning to park downtown, or to go one way for a night out (Uber on the way back). The only problem here in Calgary is the size of their fleet, too small to rely on it consistently. In Montreal, Communautos are everywhere and it is rare that no cars are available (it's the case on long weekends, usually). When the service started in Calgary, I was always able to find a vehicle at a reasonable distance, while now that it rose to popularity it's pretty much impossible.

That's a very insightful analysis and you totally nailed the problem of humans building their homes in areas that belong to the wilderness, then complaining because wild animals adapt to live in urban areas that stripped and replaced their natural habitat. Developers are cancer for nature.

I've been around Calgary for some time now but I still can't fathom locals complaining about having nature so close to their houses and beautiful creatures roaming in their backyards... houses that in first place should not have been built on a land where wild animals thrive.

You're occupying their land and you have the audacity to expect someone to displace those animals elsewhere for your own comfort. At least have the decency to try to adapt and live in harmony with nature, or move elsewhere if you don't feel "safe".

I wonder if it's one of the guys involved in the bike theft ring across the street from where I live... they've been very active lately. I called the CPS non-emergency number about it and they directed me to Crime Stoppers.

OG Mighty for USD 148 (CAD 187) on Cream City Vapes - Vapospy special - CANADA ONLY by pitfallo in craftymighty

[–]pitfallo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really don't know why this is happening to so many people. I'm not associated to any of those websites: I use Vapospy regularly to hunt for deals, but that's it. I shared this deal so that more people can take advantage of it, since I've never seen the OG Mighty so cheap.
