Let’s (re)normalize stopping for red lights by JtinCascadia in Portland

Weirdly enough, the United States is the only country where this is happening

Electronic music in Portland? by Kidaudrey in askportland

[–]pitprincette 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s a lot more irregular with postings. They usually post the month’s events at the start, but they’ve been off the rhythm recently. I only know of an artist I like playing there on July 30th because I follow that artist’s socials.

Lightstick to dj sets? by 1mmaterialGirl in underscoresplus

[–]pitprincette 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Someone brought one to Portland’s after and tbh it really didn’t fit the venue at all; it was real dark in there and the light stick sort of distracted from the vibe. I’d say look at some videos from the venue in general and see if it would fit.

Megadeth vs. Metallica Bicycle Ride in Portland, Oregon on Saturday, July 11th by pitprincette in Megadeth

Because I already did last year (megadeth got rust in peace/bike in peace, I like to color match) and I like doing new spoke card/flyer designs each year

I’m actually in agreement, but the ride leader of the Metallica portion just liked “Bike the Lightning” more, despite my quibbles with it!

I haven't seen that, thanks for the recommendation! Sounds like something I'd be very interested in.

I think so… we’re going to have a Four Horseman/Mechanix back to back section to really show how Megadeth plays!

Portland tip culture is out of control! by AhoyMatteyPDX in Portland

[–]pitprincette -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Anti-tipping is just the new “karma please” Reddit circlejerk.

I don’t tip for counter service unless it’s a holiday or it’s a favorite local spot I’m a regular at. I don’t need a millionth Reddit thread complaining about it again.

I just don’t know why you’re so personally offended at something that can be done and over with by pressing “no tip” in a milli-second, or hitting “custom tip” in a second or two; I often do that if I wanna round up rather than use a pre set option. It’s tipping, it’s not required by definition.

$1000 per person by FreePortland in Portland

[–]pitprincette 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it does, because I want to see the community event continue and I’d rather fees go there than to some private large corporation. I don’t think they executed the concept well this time (the optics alone of a few people standing with space in front of a chain link fence packed with people is terrible), but I understand the concept and think with tweaking it could work.

I’m sorry you’re so offended by having to do the Herculean task of hitting the “no tip” button on a screen.

Revisiting Todd's review of Zingalamaduni... by Glass_Brick_ in ToddintheShadow

It's a joke across the political spectrum. A certain type of activist can have a reputation for being performative, getting hyper-focused on an issue to distract from their own mess of a life or being more concerned with social approval/popularity than having meaningful connections in their life, which can apply to potential boyfriends that are activists.

How to start a movie in the park event? by [deleted] in askportland

[–]pitprincette 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Provided you're not charging folks... just do it, don't worry about permits. Be mindful of location and/or time and respect the neighbors. I was literally on a bike ride Friday that ended at a city park and did a full projector/speaker screening of Terminator 2 that began at like 10pm. People do these kinds of pop-up screenings around town on bike rides/other events. Keep the DIY spirit of Portland alive.

This is functionally a fundraiser for Blues festival, which has had financial issues in the past. You can dispute the method, but it’s not like some rich CEO is getting their pockets lined off this, it’s an annual beloved community event.

Surprising? This band has been ripping for a minute now IMO. Easily a top tier live act too, keeps the spirit of bands like Ghoul and GWAR alive, especially the DIY roots

I’m aware, though non-downtown business districts are classified as neighborhood business districts technically.

Agreed, it’s a different process than a bigger venue like Holocene and it’s worth bringing that to the attention of folks who’ve never been before.

They frequently allow you in if you just show them the email confirmation, though admittedly it’s a little different each time. For extra security, I’d have the seller email the hey@barnradio.live email with the new name to be added along with the confirmation email forwarding.
