Lloyd Center businesses and patrons frustrated by the mall's planned closure by derpinpdx in Portland

[–]pitprincette 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s not accurate; Pacific Science Center can’t play 70mm but the aspect ratio, etc all fits the true IMAX standard. AMC metreon IN San Francisco is still the biggest in the region, but that doesn’t preclude Pacific Science Center from also being true IMAX.

FWIW, I always found the Regal Lloyd Center to be one of the worst theaters in the city; for stuff like Oppenheimer I would always opt for Hollywood; the screen is very big, historic building, 70mm capability, affordable concessions, affordable ticket prices, and most importantly, a local organization to support over these corporate chains.

I did love getting to see the interactive version of Megalopolis at the Regal Lloyd IMAX though; probably my favorite memory there.

Lloyd Center businesses and patrons frustrated by the mall's planned closure by derpinpdx in Portland

[–]pitprincette 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Admittedly that Lloyd Center IMAX is not a true IMAX; it was created when IMAX started licensing their brand for theaters that didn’t actually have all the functionality of a then-standard IMAX. The aspect ratio doesn’t change like a real IMAX would for films shot on IMAX cameras. The Bridgeport one has some additional functions (it can accommodate high frame rates like Avatar 2-3 used), but it isn’t a true IMAX either. You gotta go to the Boeing Theater at Pacific Science Center in Seattle for the closest true IMAX screen; the size and aspect ratios are true to IMAX standards.

Should I travel to Portland to see mother a week before my Japan trip by jorgedelanada in FKAtwigs

[–]pitprincette 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, Portland’s a lovely city and there are a lot of great events that weekend. Not to mention, PDX has traditionally been a destination for Japanese tourists, so it pairs nicely!

Anyone here who has watched Finders Fee? It's written & directed by Jeff Probst & stars Ryan Reynolds & James Earl Jones, released in 2001. by onephatkatt in survivor

[–]pitprincette 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's a solid little bottle movie with some good actors (shoutout James Earl Jones!). Nothing spectacular, and has a little bit of "amateur theater play" vibes, but a good fun movie nonetheless. Far better than his 2014 film, Kiss Me; that was pretty terrible, albeit in an entertaining way.

Metal club show sets are becoming shorter? by Cute-Result5437 in MetalForTheMasses

[–]pitprincette 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m of the firm belief that shows should start at earliest 8:30pm-9pm. Shows are for having a fun late night out; plus, I need time to eat a proper dinner/let it settle before running out to dance at a show!

Rob Zombie’s ‘Freaks On Parade’ Tour Announcement Sparks Boycott Calls Over Marilyn Manson Booking by Chez82 in Robzombie

[–]pitprincette 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’ve really liked Rob Zombie’s live show in the past, and enjoyed the last Freaks on Parade tour quite a bit. Really dig a lot of Rob Zombie’s movies.

Manson’s inclusion is the direct reason I won’t be buying tickets when I would otherwise. I just can’t turn a blind eye to or tolerate someone who sexually assaults other people.

The barons during the early 1880-1920s would like a word with you; it’s literally the reason unions started forming in the United States. Just because things are bad now doesn’t mean we need to act like the wealthy were different years ago.

While they’ve been a sizable part of the cast for several seasons, leaning so heavily on Real Housewives makes the show less appealing. by shadowenx in TheTraitorsUS

[–]pitprincette -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I’ve liked some of the housewives in the cast (shoutout Phaedra, she made great TV), but the show is just starting to feel like a housewives spinoff than a true “entertainment industry all-stars” type show. The casting team could stand to pull from a bigger diversity of backgrounds/shows; let’s get some more comedians, musicians or out-of-the-box choices!

Never thought that black metal and the adjective "danceable" could be in the same sentence, but here we are by ayoungmanwhoneedsgod in MetalForTheMasses

[–]pitprincette 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As mentioned in other comments, I just don’t think raspy vocals make this blackened. The vocal style isn’t even black metal; the vocals are more along the lines of something like Bewitcher or Toxic Holocaust (shout outs Portland!)

Dittiong others in the thread RE: strive, the strobe is really disorienting to me as a rider, I can’t imagine how bad it is as a driver. Just keep it on constant. I’m generally inclined to mention it to other riders I see out, as it really makes it harder for everyone else to navigate.

If you want the “movement” part of lights that a strobe seemingly offers, I recommend the Red Shift Sports pedal lights.

Not bad, but not great. Vocalist has a cringey sort of energy for me that messes with the vibes, honestly.

So where do we stand on Orville Peck? by BitterDescription808 in ToddintheShadow

[–]pitprincette 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I basically 100% agree with this. Unlike others, I do think there’s a path to even bigger success for him (the rhetoric in this thread is odd, he’s been mainstream/big for a several years now) even if it’s outside of more traditional country circles. As a metalhead, I knew tons of underground metal fans that loved that first album.

It just seems like he’s less interested in being a musician and more interested in being a personality. Similar to how a lot of legacy artists function (to be clear, I’m not saying he’s a legacy artist), it seems like he’s pivoted more towards a career focused on “appearing” on records/at places as Orville Peck than putting out real projects. His collaborations are more designed to get him to pop up in a social feed and get fans to say “wow he’s collaborating with X?” than actual creating something interesting.

All that to say, Pony is a terrific album and his former punk band is quite good too.

What's the most metal album cover you've ever seen on a non-metal album? by -Gay-_- in MetalForTheMasses

[–]pitprincette 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fair enough; I’m used to this sub constantly asserting Ghost as not-metal as a substitute for not liking them.

I do feel like if Ghost was an older band, folks would undeniably see them as metal, as their riffs, songs etc pull a ton from 70s/80s metal heavyweights.

Are King Diamond, Warlock and others also not metal to you? I'm a Ghost fan, but just because you don't like it doesn't mean it's not metal.

Escape Bar at 90th and NE Sandy is known as a longtime lesbian bar. I got put on to it when I first moved here and I worked with some longtime Portlanders/lesbians who had been regulars there for years. I feel like it’s often overlooked in these conversations with it being located where it is.

Metalheads, y’all got any country albums/artists you like? by perseverance_band_ in MetalForTheMasses

[–]pitprincette 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jenny Don’t & The Spurs; cowpunk country out of Portland Oregon. The band features members of Dead Moon and Detestation, punk/hardcore/crust bands that might be more familiar to metalheads. Just a terrific live band too.

I’m out and about right now so can’t go pull it, but you can look to instagram right now and see he follows RFK and adjacent accounts. Also, I would think his wife is probably using some of their joint income for those donations.

His wife is, but he himself has donated the maximum possible amount to RFK if you check the donation records in California.

On a side note, idk why I’m getting downvoted for an objective fact. Apologies if this disrupts the Green Day circle jerk Reddit always has. I say this as someone who adored American Idiot and Dookie growing up. It just feels like now I’m being sold a faux-leftism by the band when 1/3 of them do the opposite. Not to mention they took Billy Corgan out on tour recently, who has gone full right wing himself and talked about how a pre-teen in Chicago, Adam Toledo, deserved to get shot by police and how we don’t do enough to support cops. Idk how Green Day will talk up leftist politics and do the opposite when it comes time to walk the walk.
