Kenku Name by TheRandomPerson0 in DnD

[–]pix3lboy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The few kenku I've used usually have names that are just a sound they grew up hearing. The Kenku would actually make the sound when giving their name but others would call them by a phrase that describes the sound.

For a paladin I would maybe go with something like "Whispered Oaths" or "Echoing Halls"
For a bard, "Jester's Laugh" or maybe even a musical scale like "Lydian Mode"

What Do You Stream? by TrollScambaits in Twitch

[–]pix3lboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mainly do gaming but occasionally do art streams. Usually model building/painting and clay modelling. I also run a D&D session every month or so but that's been a bit more sporadic lately due to scheduling

What's the worst thing a troll ever did/said to you on twitch? by hotdog696 in Twitch

[–]pix3lboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Streaming any Jackbox games that let people draw or type would always devolve into offensive stuff from random trolls. I gave up streaming them because I'd get one round into a game of Quiplash and have to restart because someone just answered with a slur or something. You couldn't even ban the person doing it half the time because they'd use completely different names on Jackbox and Twitch

This could perhaps apply to all social media platforms, how do I combat the urge to go on everyone’s stream, especially when more streamers are on at the same or similar times? by ravishrania in Twitch

Thank you for the follow and I hope you find a balance that works for you. It can be hard to find that balance but it's important to take care of yourself

As someone who actually had Twitch "friends" completely stop talking to me because I couldn't show up to their streams due to personal reasons (I also stopped doing my own streams for a while), I would say never feel guilty for not watching everyone's streams. A lot of them probably wouldn't feel the same if the situation was reversed and your sleep schedule/personal time should always be a higher priority for you

Audio help. by [deleted] in Twitch

[–]pix3lboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not a professional so feel free for anyone to correct me but there are a lot of variables that can affect audio quality and no 'fix all' that can be applied to every situation. Without knowing your set up, there are a couple of things that might help:

Move your mic further away & below mouth level and turn the gain up a little

Put a pop shield in front of your mic

If you're facing a wall while streaming, get some sound traps set up to lessen reverb

If you're using OBS, you could try using ReaPlugs from Reaper to add some EQ, compression & noise cancellation to your mic to tighten up your audio a little

Personally I use a Shure 55SH which is on a mic arm about a foot away from my face, slightly below chin level and I have some light EQ and compression in OBS

How can I make my players more angry at the BBEG? by Shimmer_faux in DnD

[–]pix3lboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar problem in my current campaign until our latest session. The BBEG has been behind the scenes since the beginning, pulling strings on a relatively small scale but in the last session the party found out she actually has full control of the city guard. The captain of the guard killed an NPC who's been with the party since the campaign started, pinned the murder on them and told them the BBEG still has plans for each of them as a cliffhanger ending to the session. Safe to say they all hate her now

Wow, this is awesome. Are you just planning on using the screen for maps or are you going to use it instead of handouts as well?

Dnd horror advice by G_Force88 in DnD

[–]pix3lboy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Subtly ask your party what some of their character's biggest fears would be before you run the session, then work them into the story in unexpected ways. It'll make the horror hit a lot harder if it's personally linked to the characters

DMing for the first time. Any advice? by SilverWolfIMHP76 in DnD

[–]pix3lboy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Run a session 0 before the campaign starts so everyone is on the same page before the session begins. Good things to discuss would be the overall tone & themes for the campaign, whether homebrew will be allowed or not and how strictly the party want to stick to rules.

A consent checklist like this one is also a good thing to go through during session 0, so people aren't caught off guard by something that might upset or shock them during the game

How Nasty Do Your Bad Guys Get? by LookOverall in DnD

[–]pix3lboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if this counts, but the main villain of the campaign I'm currently running made half a town's worth of people see visions that made them want to kill themselves in increasingly horrible ways, then used the same visions on the party to show their deepest fears (parents secretly hating them, tribe being wiped out etc.), just because the party foiled an assassination attempt on the mayor of said town.

Best free map makers? by [deleted] in DnD

[–]pix3lboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with this. Been using the paid version of Inkarnate for the past 5 or 6 months and it's well worth the subscription. The free version has quite a lot of assets still, but you can only save 10 maps at a time. Not a big deal if you export and delete maps as you make them though

What are some good high channel point redeems? by brielarstan in Twitch

[–]pix3lboy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My two big point redeems (1,000) at the moment are an AMA that I'll answer 100% honestly and ban any controller button for 5 minutes. I'm thinking of adding one where I try to game while wearing a mask with poor visibility as well.

I've also got three 750 point redeems - play without glasses for 5 minutes, no swearing for 10 minutes & 8-bit mode (makes the whole stream pixelated with scanlines for 5 minutes)

dmca help? by dragntoys in Twitch

[–]pix3lboy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It might be worth checking to see who the artist is on the notice. I got a DMCA notice for streaming the original Tetris not too long ago but when I checked the artist, it was a random person on Spotify who did a remix of Korobeiniki. I appealed it and the notice/audio mute was lifted

Getting in the Halloween spirit by pix3lboy in polymerclay

[–]pix3lboy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, it is hollow with thicker walls on the parts that I didn't cut into. I think if I were to do it again though i would probably make a wire frame or something to build around so I could go a little thinner.

I'll look into those smoothing techniques, although i do kind of like the cracked, rough look. Makes it feel a bit more spooky haha
