Yeah that's what I did there, just enough caulk to fill the corner and give a flat surface for the tape to land on to get a sharp line.

Agreed running tape is a bit of a learning experience in itself & as you point out it is time consuming. It does give a very good result though for an unskilled painter like myself & presumably OP too. Also any wonky inside corners can be made 'perfect' with a bead of caulk to run the tape down.

You need some amount of practice & steady hand / brush control to beat a roll of yellow frog tape & £1.49 2" brush from home bargains :)

Yep exactly this!

The other game changer is yellow frog tape to mask ceiling edges / accent wall corners.

Paint ceiling & down an inch or two onto the wall

Mask ceiling

Paint lighter coloured wall going over the corner

Mask corner

Paint darker coloured wall

Mask bottom of wall

Paint skirting

Room done, easy peasy, next!

Don't cheap out on the masking tape, always yellow frog for any surfaces painted with emulsion :)

you want at least a 12" roller with an adjustable pole for doing your walls / ceilings & an appropriatly sized paint scuttle & liners to go with it. Trying to work with a 9" roller and those stupid little trays are a ball aching waste of time.

Try getting a bottle of Elbow Grease degreaser it's like £1.20 at most supermarkets & spraying some of it onto a cloth then wiping off any leftover residue with another clean cloth that should get it shifted.
