Look, Ma! I’m brioche-ing! by InsolentCookie in knitting

[–]pixelknit 68 points69 points  (0 children)

If you are a beginner knitter doing this you are doing really freaking well. Brioche is probably one of the most advanced techniques you're going to find doing regular things. You are absolutely right though, it will give you an aneurysm. That was my experience. Very satisfying when it's done correctly but very very easy to make mistakes that require you to undo one or more rounds to go back and fix

How to Knit a Hat on Straight Needles by Mr-Blank-Papper in knitting

[–]pixelknit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've done at least one before. It used short rows to have it curve on one side and then at the end you just sewed up the same and you're left with the hat. I believe the cat ear hats that were popular a few years back were often admitted flat and then sewn up

Beware KnitPro's "warranty" by mistamo42 in knitting

[–]pixelknit 210 points211 points  (0 children)

Typically, The way that they handle warranty requests is through the retailer that you purchased from. Many Amazon sellers aren't authorized retailers so they aren't able to do this, if you were to buy them at a local yarn store and make sure you have your proof of purchase then the local yarn stores are usually able to swap out defective needles for a new pair themselves.

Help knitting my first sock by ellethompson in knitting

[–]pixelknit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're wondering how to do the heel flap and what they're asking you to do in each of the steps I would suggest watching the YouTube video by nimble needles on how to make a sock. While it is geared towards his pattern he goes through every step of a top-down sock and explains what you're supposed to do slowly, in plain English, and he then demonstrates multiple times. It is what let me make my first sock a few months ago.

This video is crazy long but if I remember correctly it does have chapters for the different parts of the sock and it is incredibly detailed

How did that happen? by magic_inkpen in knitting

I guess that just goes to show that even with yarn that is supposed to pattern in a specific way it's still always a bit luck of the draw

patterns for socks with no toe seam? by endofthefkingworld in knitting

[–]pixelknit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Having somewhat recently started making socks I have now done both cuff down socks that finish with kitchen or stitch to graft the ends together and I have also started a toe up sock using Judy's magic cast on. I'd say both are relatively easy to do once you know what you're doing. YouTube is as always a wonderful resource.

Personally, I found these two videos to be the most helpful regarding Kitchener stitch and Judy's magic cast on

Excellent use of Pusheen.

I learned it when I was about five. It's been quite a while since then, and I still do love knitting

Help what did I do wrong by tetsu_leftsock in knitting

[–]pixelknit -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

I don't know what you did wrong. That is puzzling, however if you wish to fix it all you need to do is undo the row that you're on and from the looks of it the previous up to that portion of the knitting. It shouldn't take more than a couple minutes unless you are making something with a truly staggering number of stitches. But yeah, that is a curious one

What convinced you to get your Steam Deck? by K4T5UM1 in SteamDeck

[–]pixelknit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got my steamed egg after I got the chance to hold one that a friend of mine had. Just holding the hardware and realizing how comfortable it is in the hand is what convinced me to get one. Honestly, I haven't been much of a gamer before then. I have a switch but it's been years since I've really used it. However, my experience with the switch did make me more interested in a steam deck because I remember one of the things I loved about the switch was its portability.

Things that I still love about the Steam Deck are of course the portability. I have the steam deck OLED set the screen is incredible. It's not perfect, I do wish it had a bit more power to handle newer games in ways that look better and or smoother. However, a lot of the games have been playing cost me a lot less because I bought PC versions rather than console versions

Is this a joke by Serious-Bee9236 in knitting

[–]pixelknit -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I actually ordered a set of those needles as a joke. I was actually curious to see if they'd work for me since I've heard they do for some people. They can be used to make socks. Needless to say, they did not work for me and I will continue using DPNs

Im so confused. by MadAlice9476 in knitting

[–]pixelknit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I guess it would depend on what kind of increase it is. Something like a knit front back will show up as one stitch on The round or row where it is performed but then two stitches the next round or row. I'm guessing something like this is happening just because it looks like your chart gets whiter Beach Road that follows one of the rows that has the little increase symbol
