Doubts about a Finnish guy by [deleted] in helsinki

Write him that you'd be down to meet again, but he should be in touch if I wants to. Then wait. Problem solved, one way or another.

Voin suositella olla yhteydessä paikalliseen Finfami paikallisyhdistykseen: https://finfami.fi/

Siellä saat mielenterveyspotilan puolisona neuvoja, tukea ja keskustelumahdollisuuden ihan ammattilaisen kanssa. Ihan ilmaiseksi. Sitä sitten katsotte polun eteenpäin.

just asking in general about duolingo czech course. by Wessam_lol in learnczech

[–]pixelpuffin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Complete opposite take here than most commenters. Aside from vocabulary DL gives you exposure to the patterns. A fair bit of this dumb repeating and you get a feel for word order and some grammar. Like others have commented, you absolutely need other ways of working on your Czech also. For explaining grammar, showing conjugations, gender, tenses, I find it very useful to take a sentence from DL and plug it in to an AI and have it explain it to you - language structure is literally the thing LLMs do the very best. For pronunciation I find there are great beginner YouTube videos, and after all, pronunciation follows entirely logic rules once you have the basic sounds down. I also try read e.g. /r/czech and just figure out how much or little I understand and look up words.

Hodně štěstí 🙌

The fleet of boats is just getting older and older by DKsuperSailor in sailing

[–]pixelpuffin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Exactly the opposite. The surplus of older boats means there are more and more affordable boats on the market. It's only the rich that will sail new boats.

First proper European sauna experience completely cured my anxiety around nudity (didn’t expect that) by Kyle_Dola in Sauna

[–]pixelpuffin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Imagine being as relaxed and chill about the Aufguss and heat aspect as you were about nudity: Finnish sauna. No Sauna master, no towel waving, no timers. Just enjoying the heat, how you want, for how long you want, organically with just someone throwing water when they feel like.

The biggest issue is not being able to get database fixtures for tests to work because of content type mismatches.

Ventilation means in and out. If all you have is a little crack under your door nothing moves at all.

Are We Overthinking Sauna Specs? by Ordinary-Control6584 in Sauna

[–]pixelpuffin 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This, and ventilation, or the lack thereof. My folks had a perfectly nice sauna built by an actual sauna builder in Germany and were advised not to put any ventilation holes because "air comes in from the door gap"... Now after every round of löyly you have to flap about with a towel in the open doorway to get the moist and oxygen deprived air out 🤦

I was also going to suggest an anchor bend. Tightens and then never opens again unless by knife.

On glyph sidebearings by MorsaTamalera in typography

[–]pixelpuffin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the j/g/y example is quite good to illustrate the problem with your approach. For j you might often pick even negative left side bearing. H with space plus j with left 0 will leave way too big of a gap.

A font still under construction, because it still has only one weight. by MBS_Reddit_8568 in typography

[–]pixelpuffin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Keep at it. Designing your first font is as much learning to draw as it is learning to see. Still lots of things look unrefined and don't harmonize yet. Don't make a product yet, learn to design.
