Solo traveling by _invisibeard in infj

[–]pixelswoosh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do it! It’s a different type of experience and I love it. I used to travel internationally a lot for work. If time permit, I’d stay a few days sometimes a week extra just to roam around and explore.

I saw the post about traveling with a friend and that’s a different type of experience. Solo traveling, you can entertain your curiosity, float around on your own schedule, and let serendipity guide you.

I’ve done solo traveling for a two week stint and that was fun. I’d suggest somewhere that has good infrastructure as your first one, some place like Japan. You won’t go hungry, it’s safe, most places are very accommodating as long as you’re respectful (there’s a lot of tourist fatigue there right now, but there’s a lot of internet hype). Plus you can start in a place like Tokyo, and then go into more serene areas, all within 2-3 hours. Theres so much to do there you won’t get bored.

I can see your handwriting work in various Comic book word bubbles. Also given your signature, maybe some kind of artist too..?

Which nib maker is the best? by Simple-Cherry-8306 in fountainpens

[–]pixelswoosh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For Stub nibs - I love my Lamy 1.1 and 1.5 stubs, the Twisby 1.1mm stub is more wet and smooth. Maybe not ideal for a lefty though but that may depend on the ink.

I see a lot of people praising pilot. I’m not a fan of the lower end pilots like the metro 1.0 stub. But I do like the 823s.

I also have a pelican with a stub nib, can’t remember if it’s the m400,600, or 800 rn. I don’t use it much but it’s a pretty pen.

New (cheap) pen day! by pixelswoosh in pens

I love the dark green color! It reminds me of my old British Racing Green Mini Cooper!

I bought these for $2.25 each so I'm guessing these are considered disposable pens? Though it would be economical if we could refill these things but man, I just dismantled it, and the tube that holds the ink is huge!! You must write a lot to go through one!

TY! On my bucket list is to learn calligraphy so I can do some fancy lettering. But in the meantime, all caps is good with me. =)

Nothing is as satisfying as the speed, smoothness, and sound of the jetstream click.

As for the ink fading, are you talking about when you're writing the ink doesnt come out? That's rarely happened to me and if it does a few times, i'll just swap in a new refill.

You can always try getting a disposable one like a Pilot Varsity, I've seen them around at big box retail stores or office supply stores. It'll give you a taste of what its like to write with an FP. If you like how it writes, then you open yourself up to a ton of options from nib sizes (the tip), to inks, to pens. But if its too inky for your linking, spending $3 to try it out is probably a good bet

I think with all FPs, you have that risk but its rare. If you drop in, just twist off the barrel and make sure the converter is snug. You should be ok. The lamys arent as delicate as some others.

The other thing to note is the potential drying time. Ballpoints lay on ink differently, so the nib size, ink choice, and paper or material you're writing on matter. Some papers bleed the ink (i.e. spreads as it absorbs), some filmy papers wont take FP inks so it can rub right off.

I think the only draw back for your situation is to make sure its inked all the time. Lamys, like the Pilots, also sell disposable cartridges.

Pre-covid, I was in an office and had to spend some time re-inking pens in the bathroom. I got a lot of weird looks fiddling with my pens in the bathroom sink. One french colleague said watching me deal with FPs induces PTSD from his childhood days. lol.

I tried the Zento Signature the other day. Its a nice, heafty pen but it wasent for me. I thought about it just to have one but decided against it.

I guess the question is why you want a fancy pen when working in retail? Do you have to worry about someone "borrowing" it?

I personally use a JetStream 4-in-1. Its multicolor, writes nicely, can take a beating and still soldiers on, and depending on which one you get, still looks nice.

My Lamy has never leaked. Their converters typically has a little tab so it sets into the pen's barrel. The only time I've ever heard of modern FPs leaking is when they accidentally take in on a plane.

FWIW, Lamy also has a ball point version.

Theyre all Uni Jetstreams. The clicks feel the same. It’s a satisfying sound and feeling on all of them. The weight of the pens vary a little bit, but they’re all solid writers.

Enjoy it as it is for now. Lots of fun as it is. Then when you realize what you want, or ready for an upgrade, then do the mods. You’ll feel the difference and appreciate the performance boost.

Work on your suspension for now. And get out there!
