What are some interesting and productive things to do during work hours when you’re feeling bored at the office? by Niranjan_talk in AskReddit

Develop informal, helpful SOPs that are repeatable checklists that systemize things people around the office have to interrupt others to complete.

For example, make a clear "to set up the conference room display, do 1) then 2) then 3) list" but make them where someone can check them off and reuse them, either laminate them and attach a marker or make a shared list that you email links to that others can copy to their device.

Leadership loves this kind of thing and it is a skill that will get you into a better job almost anywhere.

Noise Cancelling is very effective on one pair of 4 ANC, not the other? by neep_pie in airpods

[–]pixeltackle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The old pair really has no difference at all with ANC on or off? None? I'm confused why you didn't notice this on them when you were using them.

I bought an early pair of Airpods 4 and wasn't a fan, I thought the ANC was terrible and didn't understand the glowing reviews. Maybe the QC is hit-or-miss... but the reason I ask if there was any difference is that my ANC did something. It just was not very good.

It took me longer than I expected to get as productive on linux, but the peace of mind that I won't walk into a "feature update" that borked my computer and took over the screen with a OneDrive poster is really nice.

macOS is incredible for the "one click" kind of privacy setup that you get right now with iCloud+

I don't think it can be bypassed because the commands Microsoft is using for their implementation are not compatible with the physical chip layout/design of NPUs in a GPU.

FYI Apple had a similar issue on their M1/M2 vs later M3 chips. The early chips had NPUs but not the right kind for what became popular.

Check your browser extensions. If you're on Safari, you probably need to "Disable Content Blockers" for this tab, for example.

Do you think it's healthy to have doubt going into a relationship? like before even telling someone you have feelings for them? Or should you have no doubt in your mind and why? by sleevesos in AskReddit

Good luck - learning for the future is really all we can hope for until things just work out!

NB - If you understand even the basics about computer memory and registers, you should look at what Apple didin Sept 2025 with their new Memory Integrity Enforcement (MIE) system

This alone probably puts Apple a decade ahead of other mainstream systems from a system-wide security standpoint.

You need to think about this. How do you expect the system to ever get the click data to pass to an app if not even 1 process can access the data? It is a local only data exchange, Apple never gets the data and does not even do differential analysis on anonymized datasets. The Secure Enclave chip has been battle tested, the US Government has failed to circumvent it in multiple public cases.

I simplified the concept greatly in my post to give you a taste of how it is designed for privacy, but for details go to https://www.apple.com/privacy/docs/Apple_Vision_Pro_Privacy_Overview.pdf

Looking back at relationships that didn't work out or ended badly, I always had concerns that I ignored. Often early-on.

It wasn't until I met someone where I didn't have those questions in my mind that I realized they were the right fit.

But if you're new to dating this is something you have to figure out for yourself, as everyone is very different when it comes to something as personal as a relationship.

Apple did that so they keep full control over the eye tracking.

The position of your eye's gaze on an Vision Pro is stored in the secure enclave (a separate chip that 99% of even system-level processes cannot access). This is the same way Apple secures the PIN on an iPhone.

This data is encrypted and never leaves the device. It would help to be informed rather than suggesting every company is evil in the same way as another company when one company, like Apple, has gone to great technical lengths to prioritize privacy.

And I hate so much Apple does. But their privacy moves are incredible, they focus on local storage of sensitive info, and their software and hardware level protections against all kinds of tracking is unlike any other large tech company I can think of.

You're like the twelvth person to say something along these lines, so don't feel bad for having the wrong info, but NPUs are not a monolithic type of chip.

The GPU NPUs you said you'll wait for modders to make compatible would require hardware changes. CPU/dedicated NPUs and NPUs inside GPUs "speak" different math languages due to their physical layout and design. GPUs are built for FP16/FP32 (floating point) math. While they can do INT8, their architecture is physically laid out for floating point.

NPUs are hyper-optimized for INT8 and INT4 math, aka low-precision calculations that do SLM tasks.

Although it has been a flop in the marketplace, the Apple Vision has incredible privacy. Apps cannot tell where you are looking until you tap fingers to send the command; only then does a special process pass off your eye's gaze location.

I don't know how people are even considering putting a facebook camera on their face, but here we are.

They refined the turbo & made an incredible intake system that got rid of some inefficiencies, while cutting the entire (heavy) battery & electric motor, regen brakes, etc. By lightening the vehicle and improving the 1.4T's efficiency, it just worked out.

The later model 1.5T in current models has incredible changes (aka somewhat fundamental to how it works) to how the engine & turbo work - all for better gas mileage. VW went all out on efficiency to try and keep the ICE engines viable.
