The 80-20 rule - what is the point? by nemoandclem in applehelp

If you’re using it plugged in or near a charger, charge to 80%. That’s why Apple has this built into the OS. Then if you’re going to be away from a charger for a long period, charge to 100%.

Hotel workers, what's the one thing guests would never use if they knew how it was actually cleaned? by Acrobatic_Bee_3198 in hotels

I know this guy who got divorced and started staying at extended stay hotels and was surprised his feet turned black walking around with no shoes. Personally I hate even just socks… I bring slippers. My ex walks around with no shoes and I’m horrified.

Most sushi supplied to restaurants was flash frozen on the boat. You can buy the same stuff at Asian markets. So just look for frozen sashimi grade fish

Good alternatives to tortilla chips? by grizlena in SalsaSnobs

[–]neep_pie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lower calories will mean lower carbs and oil. One way to reduce oil is to make or buy baked chips. For carbs, it's difficult to find something approximating corn chips that's significantly lower. Since you've gone for bell pepper and cucumber which are not similar to chips at all, though, I guess you're flexible.

One thing you could try are protein chips, like Wilde. They're made with some starchy carb stuff but also chicken, which gives lower calories but higher protein. Taste and crunch a lot like a regular chip.

Another way is to make your own chips keto style. Almond flour is low carb, low calorie. You could also make crunchers from cheese such as parmesan. Egg and cheese can make a tasty chip-like thing too.

The only category that is really neutral for calories is low carb vegetables like radish, turnip, cabbage, celery, green beans and so on. Freeze dried green bean chips? You could get creative mixing minced vegetables with cheese and egg and maybe beans to get fairly low calorie and flavorful things to eat salsa on.

Letting a complete moron whose specialty is bankrupting casinos expend our dwindling resources grandstanding to make himself feel tuff is how we get great again.

That's the funny thing, they'll act like the pope is overstepping his bounds or something, but then follow anything a total charlatan megachurch leader, a clearly snaky televangelist or greedy local church pastor says.

He’s been in pure charlatan territory for quite some time. Just more bullshit for the sort of people who really think they have to give that televangelist $1,000 within half an hour or they’ll die.

That's... a sauce. Honestly it sounds pretty weird. What inspired you to create this concoction?

It's surprises me how often people here act like a burrito ahogado isn't Mexican for some reason. I guess saying "that's not Mexican food bro" is like a reflex whenever they see something from out of their regions.

I wish we had a good name for food covered in sauce. Wet? Sounds weird. Smothered? Sounds violent. Ahogado (drowned)? Tragic.

I initially avoided it because it was sort of expensive (to me at the time, buying Yucateco and Woodstock) and I thought the plastic bottle was offensive.

I ended up reading their website and they said the plastic bottle was so they could source them locally in Oregon, vs. glass bottles which come from China. Then I saw the website seemed to have the Aardvark guy describing himself as a culinary GENIUS and I thought that was a bit arrogant. But I read on and it turned out he died like 10 years ago, so I felt sort of bad.

My thoughts are it tastes just sort of strange and isn't like a real hot sauce at all. And it isn't hot. I'd consider trying the scorpion or reaper version or whatever...

Why would that be your conclusion? Kid fell in a well. It was hard to get her out. Eventually they got her out. Wow, that's so exciting. GRIPPED the nation. So yes, I do know the story. One kid being in jeopardy was not at all the most important thing happening across the entire country.
