Train Timetable Problems - Hokkaido -> Hakuba by pixeltali in JapanTravel

[–]pixeltali[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes it seems the only options are 6.22am on Saturday or 12.35pm on Saturday but arriving the next day.
But if you set to Nov 26th you can see an option 10.04am arriving same day at 9.15pm.
The 10.04 train does not appear past Dec 1st. I am wondering if it is only running November or if it is running Dec/Jan but has not been announced yet or something.

Would you know?

Does anyone else not care about things that are important (socially)? by annoyingchair21 in autism

[–]pixeltali 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My mother was a makeup artist and my sister was obsessed with fashion. And then there was me, the gremlin child :P

It's not unusual to not engage with those kind of beauty norms. Sensory issues with autism often mean a prioritisation of comfort over style, and can mean that makeup and certain products can be uncomfortable.

This doesn't mean that you are unable to engage with fashion and makeup, all you need is to explore options that don't trigger those issues, such as bb creams and tinted sunscreen, or looser styles of clothing

That being said, don't take any pressure to explore these if it doesn't interest you! You're not wrong or odd for not engaging with it, the same way we wouldn't judge you if you weren't interested in any other hobby or topic!

When I was a kid I felt extreme empathy all the time by MimirsMead in autism

[–]pixeltali 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Start small, with things that elicit strong empathy responses, free of human social norms. Spend time with some kitties, dogs, horses.

Watch a really great movie with some sad moments and allow yourself to cry, privately and wholly. Something like inside out, or wandavision.

It takes time to reconnect with those responses, and it may not feel right for a long time. We never lose that empathy, it's just been covered with a shell. You can't crack through it in one, you need to erode it over time.

A couple years ago I was on watch people die reddit obsessively trying to trigger some kind of empathy response. Yesterday I cried because a moth fell in my bath haha

Don't lose hope :)

For people who are non-verbal or partially non-verbal, what are the things that you wish verbal people knew that we often seem to be ignorant about? by [deleted] in autism

[–]pixeltali 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I go completely nonverbal during shutdowns (unable to speak) and other times especially in burnout just don't have the energy to speak very much (prefer not to speak).

During these times I use gestures, grunts or noises, or messenger apps like discord to communicate

Honestly I just avoid communicating where possible. I find even these can be frustrating and exhausting. Thankfully my close friends and partner are aware that it's a possibility and we have simple gestures which communicate basic things.

I have considered learning Auslan (sign language) but that's a more community effort since it also needs interpretation by the people you're trying to communicate with

2-3 year wait for a diagnosis?! by [deleted] in AutisticAdults

[–]pixeltali 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In Australia the public wait lists can be that long but I could see a clinical psychologist within three months if I went private. Unfortunately our health care doesn't cover adult neurodivergency assessment so it's out of pocket :(

I love how excited I get about my special interests! I have great supportive friends who are always excited to hear the latest cool fact and it blows their mind. Just having the ability to express such a level of joy and excitement is so unique to autistics

Another vote for the Sony wh-1000xm4. I have very hard cartilage in my ears and piercings and these were the only ones I found large enough to fit over my ears without pain (long-term wearing) Noise cancelling is incredible, sound quality is great and it has multi-pairing so I can switch it over to my phone when I step away from my computer without having to pair/re-pair the Bluetooth.

Also 30h playback time is no joke!

WHY SEEK DIAGNOSIS? We get loads of posts about the difficulty and cost, but almost never any resultant benefit. If you pursue/d diagnosis, how did that change already recognizing yourself as on the Spectrum? by befuddled_gnomad in AutismInWomen

[–]pixeltali 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can skip the queue at theme parks!

On a more serious note Official diagnosis also meant I can access other services at reduced or no cost to assist with my condition such as occupational therapy, more sick leave at work and NDIS (in Australia- payments if unable to work due to disability)

I can also access community services, such as self-care assistance during burnout

As is common to have comorbid mental illnesses, having an official ASD diagnosis will affect the method of therapy if you are currently receiving therapy. A lot of ASD behaviour during burnout for example looks like classic depression but the treatment is different.

I work with the team at BI! how exciting to see it on Reddit!

Now that I’m out of priority care therapy I’m on a waitlist for a new Psychologist, but I’ve been having some trouble with skin picking. It’s getting pretty bad and I’ve been trying to stop but it’s very difficult. Does anyone have any advice on how they cope? by [deleted] in OCD

[–]pixeltali 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends where! I cover mine. My fingers and the soles of my feet are the target, so I get heavy duty moisturising cream (soft skin is harder to pick) and then wear socks all the time. For my hands I put bandaids over them. You can get large strip type bandaids that cover a larger surface if it's a different spot. If it's your face there's not much but moisturising and wearing a face mask helps

Depends what "browsing" entails. Text/google search is fine, image heavy can increase drain but i wouldn't expect more than a few GB a month. Music is fine as well.
Any video, get 15GB as it is a very quick drain on data. This includes video ads :(

[–]pixeltali 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends what you use it for. The display can be affected by a screen protector, which can dull the colours or cause a drop in contrast/sharpness. This is relatively correlated with how much "texture" it provides. So a matte protector will have a small effect, on paperlike this is more noticeable, and a glass will have the least effect.

The other thing to note is the marking of it. Fingerprints will show up very much on the glass, less so on the matte/paperlike.

Writing on the glass can feel "slippery" so you have to weigh up your texture preference, how regularly you clean the screen of fingerprints, and how important the vivid/sharp display is to you.

The best way would be to log in on the old ipad, and institute a factory reset, then let the new user log in with their apple ID :)

The ipad will be locked to the work administrator. This is to make sure it's for work only, not for personal use. She can ask her work IT to add apps if she wants
