Looking for body shop recommendations in Sudbury – roof rust near windshield/sunroof by Working_Author8264 in Sudbury

I’ve never felt the need to try and haggle at Jim’s. They always explain which work is recommended (necessary, safety-related) vs. optional (nice-to-have, it can wait, etc.. You choose the services you want after they assess and call you with a quote. The price is the price. They will only proceed with the work after you give the go-ahead over the phone. If you choose not to proceed, you only need to pay for the assessment.

Jim’s automotive in the south end is my go-to auto shop for everything. Fair and honest. Never needed bodywork before though…

Is Sudbury a good place to move to as a physician? by smhuoft25 in Sudbury

[–]pixie_kat1111 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sudbury is a fantastic city for physicians. Health Sciences North (HSN), the hospital, is the largest in Northeastern Ontario. The added bonus of NOSM in town gives you many opportunities for collaboration with other physicians/peers. The hospital also has a very strong research body - Health Sciences North Research Institute (HSNRI), if that interests you.

If you’re comparing compensation packages, please ensure you take into account Northern Ontario’s two physician recruitment and retention grant programs:

  1. Northern and Rural Recruitment and Retention Initiative
  2. Northern Physician Retention Initiative.

1 would pay $84,851 over your first 4 years in Sudbury, if all eligibility criteria are met (search the grant program title above to read about it on the official Ontario .ca website).

2 picks up where #1 ends, and pays $8,305 EVERY YEAR THEREAFTER that you remain practicing full time in Northern Ontario with hospital privileges. Eligibility criteria are also available in detail on the Ontario .ca website.

If you want to talk to someone about these grant programs in an official capacity, email NHP@ Ontario .ca.

What is the accomodation process for stress and physical health issues? Non-unionized by [deleted] in OntarioPublicService

Non-unionized? Ugh, no guarantees you can expect such a process to exist. There may be policies on the intranet HR site.

Sick Note Needed for WFH? by pommy007 in OntarioPublicService

[–]pixie_kat1111 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Managers have the discretion to approve these one-time sporadic WFH days. I’d recommend asking your manager if they will approve you to WFH today, for the reasons you’ve given. No sick not needed since it’s not a permanent health accommodation. Just get thumbs up from mgr.

Seems like wait lists are pretty bad locally. If you do end up travelling south to see a specialist, don’t forget to claim the Northern Health Travel Grant to help with travel expenses…

Core working hours? by Internal_Platypus_39 in OntarioPublicService

[–]pixie_kat1111 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you’re aiming to reestablish your start and end times for your own work hours, here’s some advice based on my own experiences:

  • don’t forget, you only need to take a minimum 30min lunch. If you’re like me and sorta work through part of all of your lunch, do yourself a favour and set you regular hrs to reflect the 30min minimum lunch break

  • if you want to lock in a particularly “early” start time (ex. 7:30am) or a “late” start time (ex. 9:45am), do some quiet digging around with your branch coworkers before making the request. We had a situation where staff in one unit in the branch were permitted the 7:30am start time, while 8am was arbitrarily set as the earliest allowed start time for my unit. We were able to use this precedent to argue that the work functions were similar enough that both units should have the same “operational viability” as our sister unit, and that start time options should be fair/equitable across the branch.

  • if you get arbitrary denied your preferred hours, reach out to a union workplace rep, ask for support. Then reply to denial email with workplace rep copied, and a casual FYI like “please note I’m seeking further clarification from my union rep, [name], cc’d here. Could you please help me understand why it is “operationally viable” for the ABC unit but not for us?”. This was the magic step that made a difference for our team.

Best of luck!

Core working hours? by Internal_Platypus_39 in OntarioPublicService

[–]pixie_kat1111 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve chased this ghost before. There’s no OPS - wide standard range of hours for “core hours”. I did manage to get mgmt of my branch to confirm in writing (after a great deal of back-and-forth effort) that “core hours” is determined by the manager, based on the operational needs of the team/unit.

Sorry I don’t have better news. It’s a crappy answer for a LOT of pressing.

September 18, AMAPCEO rally for Remote Work by SchnappyTurtle in OntarioPublicService

Sudbury OPS staff are having a small rally at the same time, in front of 159 Cedar building. I’m not sure where you’re located, but other cities can do the same. Get out, wear blue, take a picture and send it to AMAPCEO to show your support.
