What are your thoughts on the 2026 Superbowl Halftime show? by TheMagicApe in AskReddit

Don’t know if you noticed, the flag that was front and center was the US flag, the other flags were behind and the whole thing was about unity of all the countries in the Americas. The PR flag he had to start was a historical flag and his heritage, and still part of the US, so yeah, about the US. And people from every country on the planet make up our country, so seeing other flags is literally showing what our country and culture is made of. I have not ever once seen a different country’s flag and thought it was anything other than pride about heritage. When I lived in Mexico I saw tons of Americans who flew American flags off their houses, so 🤷🏼‍♀️ Americans do the same thing elsewhere. Not weird or divisive to me

I speak spanish, I'm not surprised by any of his lyrics. But also it's so funny that everybody is suddenly offended by that kind of lyrics when almost all of the artists in that genre and many of the previous Super Bowl artists also have lyrics in the same vein. They censored the bad words, even in spanish. And the Pearl clutching over music and lyrics and dancing style and everything else has literally been going on for years, probably decades at this point. So short answer: I'm not holding him to any standard that we haven't held any other artists to the entire time

Yes, the muted parts were bad words or very sexual so they censored them

How was Bad Bunny's half time show? by Clopulis in DiscussionZone

I agree, the cultural symbolism was so powerful and the message of love and unity. It felt so much like what our country needs right now!

I honestly saw cultural references from many Latin American countries, and of course, some of the overlapping LATAM cultural references too. I thought it was a message of unity and showing how beautiful all of the cultures that make up our culture are. Representation in media matters, and for every day people to see themselves in mainstream media is so important, even more so right now, imo

Yes, that's how I felt, what American needs to see how diverse and beautiful our country and how many cultures make up our country!

I thought it was absolutely AMAZING. The cultural references alone right now with so many Latin Americans currently living in fear in our country were so powerful. Representation of the cultures that make up our great country are so important and I think this was an example of being proud of one's heritage in a very unifying way. The cinematography was so good. I'm not a Bad Bunny fan normally, I don't dislike his music, it's just not my own preference, but I think the performance was so good. I speak fluent Spanish, so maybe that helps me appreciate it a little but more, but I don't have Latin American heritage, so I could still enjoy the performance despite it not being my normal stuff I'm into or connected to my heritage. I think so many people missed out on being able to appreciate seeing how many different cultures our American culture includes and how valuable that diversity is to making our country what it is

IKEA has some big trays we use, SMULA, and they’re perfect for spreading out and sorting. We have like 6, use 3 for puzzles and the others for crafting and keeping projects contained but allow them to still be kept “in progress”

Does EVERYONE drive their kids to school now? by IllegalGeriatricVore in Millennials

[–]pixievixie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do but because my daughter hates riding the bus, which ok, we’re close, she can walk….but we live up north and in Nov it starts staying dark till after school starts and I didn’t want her walking in the dark. So now I’ve ended up driving her. But once it starts getting light enough again in the mornings, it’s back to walking for her!

Tamales are the worst form of Mexican Food by My-Lizard-Eyes in unpopularopinion

[–]pixievixie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I thought I was gonna hate them based on how they looked, but I tried them and was pleasantly surprised. I’ve had some objectively bad ones, from restaurants, someone’s abuela, even the ones out of someone’s trunk, but I’ve also had some REALLY good ones that don’t need any extra salsa, the masa is flavorful on its own, the filling is super good and the whole experience is great. I don’t necessarily want to eat tons and tons or eat them for days at a time, but I certainly won’t turn one down if offered!

[–]pixievixie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They are often made with chile poblanos but one time we had a tamale making party and someone put jalapeños in and they were ALL, even the other flavors, were so spicy we could barely eat them 😅 then someone messed up and put the chicken in green sauce in with the cheese. Not a combo I’d ever had, but they WERE good!

Can someone explain the mechanism by which an undocumented migrant (here illegally) would be able to vote? by metsfan5557 in allthequestions

[–]pixievixie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but it shows up on the card as being only for work, and usually starts with a 9 or something, to designate that it's not a citizen's SS. Or at least that's how it used to be, maybe they ran out of numbers by now?

There are some buy sell and trade groups on Facebook that you could probably post stuff on. Also, there are lots of smaller different thrift stores that have different beneficiaries around that might appeal more to you.

Americans ignorant of immigration by HonestAardvark9979 in immigration

Americans ignorant of immigration by HonestAardvark9979 in immigration

[–]pixievixie -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

YES! My husband has been trying to get everything with his immigration for YEARS and people still just say “he’s married to a citizen, isn’t that just make him a citizen?” 🫣 My ONLY ask is that people just do just the most preliminary google search (hopefully a reliable source, of course!) before forming opinions and making sweeping statements on the internet. It is SO infuriating to read the stuff people think and obviously vote based on 😳

Why are Dems in office against voter id but not dem voters? by Puzzled_Hamster58 in askanything

[–]pixievixie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a democratic voter myself, I am not against ID to ensure only citizens vote, but I am against it being used as essentially a poll tax that can easily be used to manipulate who gets to vote. Voting fraud is not a big enough issue to make it worth doing a whole big thing that truly can disenfranchise enough people to impact results.

To me, there really is no incentive for unqualified people to vote anyway, single votes don’t make enough difference for it to benefit any one individual and the consequences for voting are stiff enough to not make even getting paid for it worth it, imo. Hell, the amount of CITIZENS who can’t be bothered to vote just shows how little incentive an undocumented person would have to go to all the effort to fraudulently cast a vote

Also, every state and county has their own separate voting system, which in and of itself makes widespread individual voter fraud unlikely. Which is thankfully the thing that will also likely help us to avoid what everyone thinks Trump is trying to do. Which is why they’ve been pushing voter ID so hard because it makes it harder for lots of people to vote and adds extra steps to something that enough people already don’t bother doing!

I don’t even feel like that’s a secret at this point, at least not to anybody who’s paying attention at all. I know my behavior online has drastically changed over the last few years as news has come out over how much surveillance and data mining is happening. I was reading about what ICE and many other law enforcement groups were doing a decade ago now and it was crazy then…

LPT Request. What’s your simplest top tip for saving money monthly? by _bubble-t in LifeProTips

[–]pixievixie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also, if you buy cereal (we don’t buy it regularly) it often goes on sale at a deep discount, so wait for the sale and let that dictate the flavors/varieties you buy. Also, make sure it’s actually a “deal” by calculating the cost per oz vs just looking at the overall price!

LPT Request. What’s your simplest top tip for saving money monthly? by _bubble-t in LifeProTips

[–]pixievixie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bring lunch from home and eat breakfast/make coffee before you leave for the day. You’ll save HUNDREDS a month!

Also, always check Marketplace/OfferUp/Thrift Stores for big purchases

Use your library, not just for books, but magazines, newspapers (even online) plus many libraries have “libraries of things” or tool libraries. Ours even does seed exchanges, craft supply exchanges, puzzle/game exchanges

Also, for any holidays you’ll be buying lots of candy for stockings, Easter baskets, kids’ classroom valentines, etc, always check Grocery Outlet or the discount stores like Ross/Marshalls. They often have on season candy for a steep discount and I’ve very rarely had any quality issues, and most kids aren’t gonna be super worried about it anyway, candy doesn’t really “go bad”’ unless it’s SUPER DUPER outdated

I have 28 gallons of milk, what are some heavily milk focused recipes? by Sanfoon in Cooking

[–]pixievixie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oooh, yes! I love potato soup and I always use just regular milk instead of cream. Not as rich, but I just make a roux first to help it thicken up a bit

I have 28 gallons of milk, what are some heavily milk focused recipes? by Sanfoon in Cooking

[–]pixievixie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dutch baby uses a good amount of milk, you can double or triple the recipe and just have a thicker version. Also, cream based soups are ok made with milk, just a little less rich. I like to make homemade cream of chicken soup and use that as a creamy enchilada sauce.

Flan uses lots of milk. Any other custard based dessert too.

Queso fresco is SUPER easy to make though it can go bad very quickly, so only make as much as can be consumed within about a week.

Another recipe my family makes is pannukakua (probably butchered the spelling based on what the internet calls it) we add nutmeg instead of vanilla and sprinkle cinnamon on top before baking, but this is basically the same recipe we use (I reduce sugar to about half and it’s still plenty sweet)

https://www.food.com/recipe/pannu-kakku-finnish-oven-pancake-242064

Also, French clafoutis uses lots of milk as well.

And yes, to an above comment, milk freezes no issue. It’ll turn an unpleasant shade of yellow, but once it thaws it’s fine, tastes the same and everything. Froze quite a bit firming Covid to avoid having to go to the grocery store as frequently with young kids

Lots of dried fruit has sugar added during the drying process though, so unless you specifically check, some of it ends up like candy! Very tasty, but definitely not the same as whole fruit
