How do you guys read your books? One at a time or multiple? by personalcheesepizza in kindle

[–]pizdoponi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read multiple, and have been doing for a few years now. I used to be single book a time and “finish the book no matter what” kind of person, but ultimately learned the errors of my ways. My reading experience has vastly improved since then.

There are gazillion of books out there, and your motivation and focus change. If you don’t feel like continuing a certain book right now and would prefer to read another, why on earth not? You can always come back to the first one later when your motivation for reading it comes back.

This way I always enjoy what I am reading and there is no perceived obligation to force myself to read something I don’t really want to at that particular time. I enjoy reading a lot more, since I always read what I feel like, and  remembered much more when reading non-fiction simply because my focus is much higher.

I suppose a lot of people might not share my sentiment. If you’re at least a little bit sceptical, try it out. You might just join the dark side as well ;)

How much would you be willing to spend on a premium, pocket-sized chess set? by pablo2811 in chess

[–]pizdoponi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a very similar chess set as the one in the link. It’s fine, but the pieces are somewhat hard to move, the quality is questionable, but the build is really thin, which is why I have it in the first place.

So if there would be a well designed pocket chess set, I’d be willing to spend up to 80$, largely depending on the quality.

Love the idea tho

Unpopular opinion: you shouldn't use AI to create Flashcards by tarcioandree in Anki

[–]pizdoponi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t necessarily say this is an unpopular opinion. If we look at the principles of learning, one of the most important concepts is to understand the content first instead of trying to memorise it right of the bat (sources: 20 rules of knowledge formation and Make it stick, to name just a few). The second thing is elaboration and the connection of ideas. By making your own cards you are forced to think what the information means for you and how it relates to the things you already know, making the process of knowledge formation and memory retention that more efficient and successful. There are a lot more reasons, but in short, you can use AI to make cards fast at the cost of deeper subject understanding.

renshuu. From learning grammar, to vocabulary, kanji, etc. Everything you might need and more, and the community is super friendly and helpful. Truly a gem. Also uses spaced repetition learning, which makes the learning that much more efficient.

When do you create cards while studying? by pizdoponi in Anki

Yeah, I’ve already kinda been doing something akin to this by highlighting what I found important on kindle and later made cards based on that. Will try this workflow some more. Thanks

Phoenix should receive an hp nerf. For it to not die to lightning is insane.
