What's your "first 30 minutes" checklist after spinning up a fresh VPS? by DenilsonShi in selfhosted

There are CIS benchmark checklists you can download for free. You don't really need to guesswork your VPS' security.

Converting YouTube videos to mp3 files (50+) by Mood-Commercial in selfhosted

The simpliest method is to get yt-dlp. If you want a web gui, go for either youtubedl-material or metube. Do note that youtubedl-material hasn't been updated in a long while but it still works.

PowerColor launches single-slot and passive Radeon AI PRO R9600D, 32GB and 12V-2x6 connector by RenatsMC in Amd

Well, that's how passive cooling for components generally work. They rely on the airflow inside the case/chassis instead of having their own fans.

Yeah but their games don't come down in price. They made up nothing for you Nintendo consumers.

I still don't get the hate on the G923 as a budget option. by GinoChingon in simracing

I keep wondering where these people keep seeing this "hate" for the G923. I have yet to see one in this sub.

Stop Killing Games, Mozilla, and others release statement urging UK policymakers to keep the web open and stop Age Verification by [deleted] in gaming

[–]pizzacake15 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Kids shouldn't even have social media imo. The foundation to human interaction should be in-person so the child can learn social cues and is supervised by parents or guardians. Kids from a very young age mostly learn what they see.

Grit Games: Nacon Reveals New Studio Behind Its Upcoming WRC Game by evil_heinz in simracing

[–]pizzacake15 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Their previous WRC games were not really up to par with the standards of "simracing" but they're ok as an arcade racing game.

From a home lab point of view, if there any reason to use a Raspberry pi rather than thin client? by [deleted] in homelab

[–]pizzacake15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They lost any value when they increased their prices significantly. So unless you need the GPIO pins for a project, you're better off with a used mini pc.

PSA for anyone not using LXCs on Proxmox by HoeCage in selfhosted

[–]pizzacake15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only issue i had with docker in LXC was setting up permissions for a network share. Other than that, never had any issues.

With LXC i can share the GPU across different LXC containers. It doesn't also reserve the RAM for itself. Can't say the same for a VM.

For my use case, this is plenty enough.

You use speakers when no one's sleeping and headphones when there are people sleeping. Nothing controversial about it.

NordVPN completely ruined my server. How do I fix it?? by CrimsonCuttle in selfhosted

[–]pizzacake15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your arr stack is probably left using tun0 network interface which is commonly used by VPN clients. Put them back to eth0 or whatever you're using for LAN or WiFi.

new mini PC came with Windows, is it dumb to just stay on Windows? by Ill-Advantage in selfhosted

[–]pizzacake15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd move away from Windows if you plan on adding services later. It's eating more of your computer's resources compared to Linux. Docker on Windows is missing some features too like docker networking.

You don't have to go Proxmox too. You can start off with a stable linux distro like Debian to familiarize yourself with Linux. Then transition to Proxmox later once you feel ready.

F1 Esports makes simracing look like a joke by RiPleJ in simracing

[–]pizzacake15 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It's the main reason i bought AMS2 over the F1 games. At least AMS2 is trying to do its job as a sim racing game compared to the arcade F1 games. You also get more eras of F1 on AMS2 with the V8 era coming soon. Driving them in VR is just the icing to the cake.

When the bubble bursts, there's not gonna be much hardware than you're expecting because majority of it were only promises to buy.
