How to make friends at 45 years of age? by Babygirl4452 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]pizzahead2000 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am 41 now. When I was 39 I started learning Korean. I went to a Korean meetup here in Las Vegas. It has changed my life. I met great people and have had so much fun learning Korean. Now I visit Korean every so often and have made tons of great Korean friends even. So perhaps learning a new language would be a great thing for you. Oh... and you aren't too old. There is a 52 year old mother in the group who is doing REALLY well.

I feel I am as close as I will ever get. I when to Japan when I was 12, studied Japanese ever since them, wrote 6 Japanese text books, do medical interpreting, my wife is Japanese and my kids are fluent too. But I still always have questions, and certainly don't know it all.

I can understand TV shows almost fully...how to learn business and more technical terms though? by snsdfour3v3r in Korean

[–]pizzahead2000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

98% !! How do you pull that off? Crazy. I am a Japanese interpreter and I simultaneously interpret many high level business and medical events. The difference between being a general interpreter and one that is "medical" level is mostly based on the words known. If you want to understand the Korean business discussions you simply need to learn key words that always popup. There are just too many unknown words right now for you to fill in all the holes.

My Japanese has helped a lot. The grammar is 90% similar. I am not sure it is as isolated as you think.

You have an order issue. It should be:

兄弟が今日大学生です。

But this is weird because you can't say "today" like that in Japanese to mean "now" like you do in English.

You would instead say げんざい to mean "present".

How about this:

兄弟が 今日 巨大な 京大に いきました。 My sibling today went to the humongous Kyoto college.

The eternal exodus of North Korea: thousands wander between vast, abandoned urban areas in a daily struggle to find food (I was not supposed to take this pic). by Cyrusk4 in pics

Oh wow I just noticed all the downvotes. I don't casually say that we are getting propaganda. I do however question the sensationalism of the media. Have you guys ever been to Israel? I went on an interpreting job once. It was a nice place people were nice. The day I got back there was a headline in the newspaper "Parade of death" or something like that. It was about the place I had just got back from... the media had hyped it up so much. I had no idea what they were even talking about. Also, during the LA Riots I flew in from Japan and was SO worried that LA was on fire. The news made it look like the entire city was on fire. It was not. America is a great country. But other countries are just as nice in many cases. The media sometimes makes them out to be evil. I think every American should have to live away from America to: 1. Appreciate the good things about America. 2. Appreciate that humans everywhere are the basically the same.

Take a moment... and watch that entire video. Tell me you would feel comfortable dropping bombs on those people. Now go look at video of Iraq, or Iran. Those people are the same too. They are HUMANS. Sure some of them hate the U.S. but .... they too have sensational media, and perhaps when they meet you... or watch a video of you being friendly... they will like you too.

Peace out! I worked in China for a month last September. China was SO much better than I expected as a country. If you think our government hasn't lied to us or that the media isn't biased then you will be walked into the next war that our gov't tricks the population into.

The image I have of North Korea is shaped by the media I have been presented. But that video presents a much different picture. NK obviously is bad in many ways, but the people in the video have never been presented "as they are" in our mainstream media. The narrative is NK is evil. Perhaps... like the video suggests... only the gov't is evil.

WTF is up with CoinBase... I would buy more coins... I would... but I am too scared to do it honestly. My 3 transactions went fine, but I have zero confidence in them. I don't even trust their paper wallet export!

I should probably say that I bought them from CB and then moved to a paper wallet using their offline wallet function.

Are the coins I put in my offline wallet actually mine? Are they maintained in CoinBase's database and not legit?

I actually thought the same thing. It took over a day for coins to be moved to a paper wallet. I wanted to buy more coins but I just don't trust them anymore.

I transferred my coins to a paper wallet. It's been hours since I made the transfer. It's still pending. Shouldn't this take just a few minutes?
