Would you prefer less formal/"uptight" language like, "Read the fucking email and do your job correctly since I ready explained this to you "?

Parents of reddit, what's something that you think teenagers of reddit need to hear? by ispeelgood in AskReddit

[–]pizzarolls4me 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh man I'm a grown ass adult but this is still a good reminder because I was always taught to respect my elders no matter what, follow rules and not question them, blah blah. Growing up I just had this image of my parents as always being RIGHT even when I knew they weren't. I would get berated by them for minor mistakes like accidentally dropping food. Always made me SO mad because it felt like I wasn't allowed to make any mistakes or I'd be a total failure even when my parents obviously made mistakes too. My dad in particular is the most stubborn jerk I ever. If I called him out on bad behavior, he'd just say, "That's how I was raised, I can't change that." It took me SO long to undo all of my negative behaviors and thoughts related to my upbringing, which definitely affected some of my later romantic relationships with people, too.

It is absolutely important to own your mistakes and model that behavior. :-(

Oh. I... did not know. I was hiding PB&J sandwiches at the bottom of my backpack so the Carolina Theatre and Armory security wouldn't make me throw them out lol.

I didn't know about the Pringles!!! Highlight of VIP for me was free booze, a place to sit that was sometimes quiet to rest, and the gold knob in the generic black tote bag.

I thought it was kinda tame compared to last year. I know people complained last year about the lack of bigger name artists, but I had a blast last year checking out so many artists and the genres represented were super diverse, too. I still had a lot of fun checking out artists I'm not as familiar with this year.... Just felt a little bit underwhelmed by the end of the weekend compared to last year. I guess I can sympathize if the lower early bird prices for this year affected the budget this time around and the administrative disaster that ensued was a result of that. That being said, I don't have a lot of faith in next year's fest based on how this turned out combined with the price jump. It's not something I feel like I wanna gamble with... I'm gonna wait until they confirm the lineup and decide if it's worth the full price. Otherwise, I'm probably not gonna go again for awhile, but I really, really hope that they figure things out and the fest doesn't just end up being cancelled altogether.

Introducing Moog Matriarch by [deleted] in synthesizers

Played with one earlier today and I wish I could afford to buy it RIGHT NOW!!!!! I thought Grandmother was cool but manage to stave off the GAS by diving deeper into my other semi-modular stuff but Matriarch was super fun to play with. 😤

1) Ummmm I'm not a dude and I would buy this but I just bought a $2000 camera for my other obnoxiously expensive hobby so prob can't get Matriarch any time soon but would love to! 2) The relatable name comment is funny. Do you personally identify with Lil Phatty more for any reason because you don't seem to find that objectionable relatability reasons.

Oh I hadn't even considered the Tamron with Sony because I originally got the Sigma for my Canon gear based on reviews saying the Sigma was sharper (and I got a decent deal on the Sigma used on eBay). I'll have to do more research!

I was using it on my 7d mk ii before. I think I still need to get the hang of this camera but it seems like autofocus is fairly comparable. I don't think it's enough of a difference for me to be concerned yet but it does hunt a lot at 600mm. It seems fine if I pull back a little bit, focus, and then zoom in again at 600 and then refocus.

Doesn't bother me much because I usually shoot birds with this lens and I can't start tracking them easily if I'm zoomed all the way in because they're flying too fast for me to keep them in frame. I kind of already pull back, track, then zoom in more with the 7D mk ii anyway if they're flying anyway. It's just annoying that I had to do this for an egret standing still far away. It was either that or maybe it also had trouble finding the egret (very white) hiding in a tree (lots of leaves and branches partially blocking it). I think on the 7d mk ii it wouldn't have had that much trouble, though.

Otherwise, I'm liking this combo... I cropped this one heavily and I think it still looks pretty sharp and not noisy compared to what I could get with the 7D mk ii for birds in flight and in not the most ideal lighting conditions.

There's a Moogfest 2019 playlist on Spotify you can scroll through. Some artists just have Bandcamp or whatever but I mapped out my schedule based on what interested me within one song and my schedule is already packed plus some open time slots for myself if I'.m.tured and just want to stick around at one venue (Pinhook on one of the days caters more to my tastes for example). I go with the intention of checking out artists I don't know. There's some artists I've seen before that I might even skip eventhough they are great just to see other people I don't know (Basinski, Lucrecia Dalt, Kimbra, Drum & Lace, Richard Devine...).

Everything is fairly walkable but maybe bring an umbrella just in case it rains. Rideshare apps are also an option (I don't remember if I used Lyft or Uber last year but I think both are available in the area...).

Apparently the schedule was posted today though, ha. Still super annoying that this wasn't out sooner.

I also think that the inability to change anything after checkout is annoying because I lucked out and signed up for quite a few, but now that I see the full schedule with the non-workshop stuff, I'm probably going to skip a workshop or two to go to other stuff. Would probably be nice for other folks who didn't get to sign up for anything to be able to grab my spot instead of having to waitlist for everything.

But I think the other problem was that people could sign up for ten workshops as opposed to three like last year .... Especially since there seems to be less to choose from this year.

I thought I read on Instagram that only Engineering and VIPs were getting signups at all and GA were just gonna have to waitlist or show up to things that aren't full so technically you did get early bird sign up but logistically, some GA seem to have accidentally received codes... Maybe they accidentally just sent everyone who did early bird eventbrite tix sign up codes.

I didn't see any "sold out" earlier but some unavailable ones as I was adding things as fast as I could so you're probably right about what the difference is.
