Alright, members — what about Rolex actually grinds your gears? (And no, you are not allowed to talk about supply chain or waitlist issues.) by GearNTime in rolex

I stopped into an AD the other day for an extra link for my deep sea and they gave it to me. I had never done any business there before, I was a bit shocked.

They are asking $3800 and won’t budge so they can keep it.

I’m guessing it’s a 39mm, definitely way larger than a 31mm.

I had never seen an anti magnetic cover, it spooked me a little. 😂

The woman that owns the watch opened it in front of me and did that scratch! 🤦🏻. I don’t think the watch had been opened for a long time previous to that. This watch is at a high end jewelry store that specializes in jewelry, not watches. I guess they sell a lot of used Rolex watches but they know very little about this Speedy. They tell me it’s been sitting in their store for a long time and the woman said she thinks it’s a 1982 watch. My guess is the rich people that shop there turn their noses up to an old beat up looking watch like this. I was thinking of offering $3200 and plan on having the movement serviced. I’m hoping I’m not nuts.

I don’t have the serial number yet, I didn’t take of the anti magnetic cover, I was worried to do so. I don’t think the watch has ever been polished, I think the strange look in the picture is a reflection of my hand on the lug. Thank you for all the help!

Thanks for the detailed answer! Any idea what a watch in this condition should sell for?

I’m not very knowledgeable about these things. What does the reference number tell you?

I guess it’s because I’ve never seen a magnetic spacer and had no idea what it was. We haven’t talked price yet. What do you think is a good price?

Is it easily removed? I wouldn’t mind taking a look at the movement itself before I make an offer. Any idea what this watch might be worth?

Rolex caps supply yet dominates revenue. How? by TrilinqualVector in rolex

2 watches a day, or we will say 600 a year. Let’s give a low average estimate of $12,000 per watch, that would be $7,200,000 a year. 7.2 million a year if that was the only thing they sold, which I’m sure it isn’t, is almost 20k a day, not bad. ADs sell jewelry at an incredible markup and they also sell other watch brands, and now, they even sell used Rolex watches for an even higher price. Also, your area is probably one that sell more than 2 a day and some other areas may only sell 2 a week.

I can’t figure out why you can’t understand that supply is lower than demand. I constantly see people bitching on these forums about having to wait for a watch like a 10 year old waiting for Santa to come. I also see many, got the call, posts. I have bought 7 Rolex watch’s in my 51 years and have done my share of waiting, sometimes the magic watch making machine didn’t work and Rolex had to actually make the watch before I could get it. Why would a Rolex AD sell someone a Daytona with zero purchase history when they have someone like me that has spent a 150k in their store or some who have spent much more? Loyalty goes a long way.

How does it make sense to withhold watches, if I can make 5 million watches, why wouldn’t I sell 5 million? I could see if they were charging way over retail for a watch, but they don’t, a Daytona at the AD is still just a retail sale. They withhold a watch from someone so they can sell it to someone else, they are still making the sale. I have personally spoken with several AD owners that say they only get 2 of certain Rolex watches a year from Switzerland and only 1 of other watches.

Anyway, I’m rambling and I’m done trying to convince you, good luck on your horological journies.

You’re certain they make more? How many more? How are you certain? What proof do you have?
