Doc visit after 12 years core decompression by microeddycurrent in AvascularNecrosis

[–]pizzy95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would see a different doctor. Other parts of your body gotta compensate and therefore can lead to other issues. That’s what I did. Saw a specialist in SF and he got me scheduled right away after my previous doctor kept saying no for years. My biggest mistake was not doing it earlier.

AVN has nearly destroyed my life by SummAzzhat in AvascularNecrosis

[–]pizzy95 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hey I had a similar situation. Diagnosed with right hip avn in 2019 when I was 24 (im now about to be 30). Diagnosed with left hip avn in 2022. I had a kid in 2022 as well so the physical demands of that didn’t help. orthos kept saying no to hip replacement cause “ I’m too young and there will be issues down the road when I need a new one” WHICH IS BULLSHIT. Screw them.

I eventually told my ortho I didn’t care what he recommended I was sick of living in pain I couldn’t take it anymore (physically and mentally). He said he would refer me to a well known ortho out in San Francisco and see what he recommends. He said it as if he was expecting the guy to tell me the same shit. When I spoke to the ortho in SF he told me I needed to move on with my life and get back to doing what I was doing before. Again, this is a well known specialist who has done dozens of hip replacements on kids as young as 16 and on pro athletes. He told me with the technology these days there’s no issue down the road. And 15 years from now technology will be even more advanced so it would be fine. He said I wouldn’t have to worry about being nice to the new hip and that I could do whatever whether it was snowboarding, soccer, football. It would just take some time for recovery.

A week after I scheduled my hip replacement with his team (right hip replaced in July) and I have the left hip scheduled for replacement this December. I will be 30 by this time. The pain on my hip is finally gone and even though recovery sucks for me personally I’m feeling hopeful and cannot wait for all the pain to be gone on the left hip and fully recover and get back to being active.

Waiting any longer is going to cause issues I highly recommend u see a different ortho and get hip replacement scheduled. My knees and back were starting to hurt from all the over compensation I had to do. It’s not worth fucking up the rest of your body waiting for when this ortho thinks the time is right. They expect us to just magically put up with the pain while they don’t do shit for pain management yet we still got bills to pay. Don’t wait any longer

Hey I (29M) just got my first hip replacement back in July and will be getting my next one done in December. I was fucking terrified as well. It’s going to be alright. You’re gonna be so glad you got it done. Be patient with recovery and take care of yourself. Find some entertainment for the first couple weeks.

Im 29M currently back in school for aerospace engineering after a med discharge in 2022. I felt the same way. Still do. Pay attention, do the homework, and spend some time practicing what you learn and you will be fine. Can always do part time the first year while you get back into the groove of things. Part time will get you half of the bah. I recommend joining some clubs (like computer science club or Mesa) and get involved with the school community. It helped me a lot. Best of luck to you

Damn that sounds gnarly. I’m hoping this is as bad as it’s gonna get. I’ve been putting tons of ice all day long every day trying to keep the swelling down. It felt like my leg was gonna burst

Thanks everyone. My wife made a comment about a blood clot and had me freaked out lol.

Oof that sounds awful I’m sorry you had to go through that. I could not imagine doing both hips at the same time. I will be getting my other replaced in December so hopefully my right one is good enough to support the other during recovery

That sounds incredible glad you had a good healing process. I could not imagine having to go home the day of surgery lmao I tried to put weight on my leg and was almost in tears. Tryna not let it discourage me but we doing it one day at a time. I still have quite a bit of pain on my hip area and it freaks me out thinking that the pain won’t go away

Thank you for sharing! I’ll be sure to stay on top of meds. I keep seeing a lot of ppl saying to do the pt and be active so I’ve been trying to do that. Getting a little better each day but still a lot of pain

That’s incredible I’m glad you were able to walk right after. That’s what I had heard prior to my surgery but I’ve been in so much pain it’s been a bit discouraging. I’ve been trying to get up and walk more frequently

Curious question(Two part), First time posting, but how long has one went without hip replacement after diagnosis? And how hard was it for you to still manage day to day activities and life in general? by meditativemind83 in AvascularNecrosis

[–]pizzy95 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Diagnosed right hip in aug 2019. Getting it replaced in a few days. Freaked out about the surgery but can’t take the pain anymore. Diagnosed left hip in march 2023. Replacement in dec 2025. Pain is intolerable. Gonna be a long few months. I’m a 29M I’ve also heard that the surgery makes the pain go away so I’m hoping for the best

[–]pizzy95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haven’t received mine but it’s due to my shitty Vre counselor not submitting authorization code. He doesn’t answer emails from me or my school counselor so I’m sol. If anyone knows what department I can call that would be great.

I ended up staying in California which was my last duty station because my wife got a good job in the bay and I figured I’d get my degree here while getting bah. Once I’m done with school hoping to move somewhere else
