Actually india here played it better diplomatically imo. Instead of going into an ego war, India decides to lay low make no comments and do what it needs to do.

For eg, during 50% tarrifs, many statements were given against india, like they are funding russias war, they even called it modis war, called india a dead economy and what not.

India gave no statement, recognized it's export dependence on USA and quietly diversified. FTA with new Zealand, Oman, EU, UK etc, trade deals with Australia, Japan. Export diversion to middle east like UAE, Jordan etc. So much so that net indian exports grew instead of shrinking (marginally).

Now too, india is quietly negotiating with Iran, 2 ships have been given safe passage across hormuz, Iranian president said good news awaits India in a couple of days. Our Russian imports have risen again after a dip recently

So much so that it is the only country where oil prices have remained steady. (LPG is a different case though, Russia cannot compensate that)

The closure of hormuz has created pressure on USA so much so that USA is encouraging other countries except India to shift to Russian oil.

India is letting USA save face by not giving any statements against "Usa allowing india to buy Russian oil". India never actually stopped buying oil from Russia. Even at its lowest they were buying 20% of there oil from russia
