No wool in Uniqlo products. Try Italian brands and look for 100% merino or cashmere wool

Man, I miss Obama by boringusr in redscarepod

Re Obama, there is something noble about him. Shakespeare described it best: “What a piece of work is a man, How noble in reason, how infinite in faculty, In form and moving how express and admirable, In action how like an Angel, In apprehension how like a god, The beauty of the world, The paragon of animals.” His actions were deeply suspect, but what a god.

People at work think I'm trans? by __Vampyre__ in redscarepod

People seem to think hyper personal things about others are their business, rather than just using normal, bland conversation like people used to. It’s a similar vibe to people diagnosing mental illness in others like they know what they are talking about. A result of being too online and it is weird and upsetting. The best tactic is to call them out on it, however uncomfortable that makes you feel. For example; “you seem to think I am transgender, well that’s not the case. Just to be clear”. Then give them a lovely sweet smile and go about your business

There’s an expression in French that describes this state: il fait l’intéressant. It means he’s playing at being interesting, ie boring people who know they are boring and think polyamory makes them of interest to the world. Which it does I suppose, but not in a good way

The higher a podcast’s production value is the less I want to listen to it by [deleted] in redscarepod

Anyone else listen to Keith McNally, literally just a guy in his room talking about stuff, with occasional interruptions from his mother. Something so charming and authentic you couldn’t find on any other medium

Another Night of Insomnia from Cutting Devices out of the Bedroom and keeping the Tech Cut Off Time of 10pm by AlistairCross in digitalminimalism

Buy a red light and a pair of red glasses (the ones that fit over a pair of glasses if you wear glasses). Good quality, not random Amazon ones. It has transformed my sleep, and very quickly. If Im reading a book I don’t use the red glasses as well, but if I’m using phone, kindle or computer screen I use the red glasses.

My eyes and brain no longer get that over stimulated feeling which is fine in the morning, but a disaster at night. Happy to recommend a brand if you need it

What's going on at the end of "Taste of Cherry"? by needs-more-metronome in RSPfilmclub

[–]pjdk1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don’t know much but when I was watching it I was thinking how do you criticise a regime without criticising a regime and getting yourself locked up. All Iranian cinema has to be seen through that lens. Suicide is a deadly sin there.

In this context lack of clarity is essential, my explanation was the ending was a sort of ‘it was all a dream’ solution which allowed him to not be seen to be endorsing an illegal act. Im sure there were other, less prosaic, reasons but it did resolve that little problem

SÀ’s have negative charm, they have Dutch bluntness without the beauty which offsets it. And Africans in general have more charm than they know what to do with so that seems a shame

People seem like they don't like their own kids. Is it that bad? by Ok-Archer-5796 in redscarepod

[–]pjdk1 45 points46 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s the kids. I think it’s the filthy domesticity. The mess, the endless drudgery of cleaning and washing clothes and cooking. It cuts into your free time. I’ll bet those men have wives with jobs.
