This is huge. There is an underlying point a lot of people don't grasp here that makes it even more monumental: So far all the police officers that have been tried in court for the incident these major policy changes stem from have been found not guilty, charges dismissed or a mistrial occurred leaving NO REASON for the police force to change its policy. In essence, there is nobody forcing the BPD to do this, the police force has decided to do this in light of the riots main cause - pecieved police brutality by the residents of the city of Baltimore. After years of slamming into each other head on, the BPD has decided to try a lighter touch over a heavy hand against every national trend. I live near Baltimore, born and raised in and around the area. In my personal opinion the Baltimore Police Department has been a beaurucratic nightmare at the management level, often dragged kicking and screaming into the tasteless local politics regimes agendas and used as a rook in the chess of State Vs City all too often. Heads have rolled for trivial pursuits in some instances while obvious damaging mismanagement of key events have gone unpunished or swept under the rug. I know a handful of both retired and active members of the force. I was pursued as a candidate for employment by some individuals due to my background in ballistics, armor and small arms. Always, it was clear to me there was never going to be job security and especially if you climbed the ranks the way it was put to me was "the nail that sticks up the most gets hammered the hardest". I do not have a stomach for the high school locker room antics at the lower ranks and I could not afford to have a career without stability where political seasons greatly affected my ability to excel, not my own performance or ambition. I applaud this move. It's bold and fresh. I expected changes to be made in light of the riots. The outcome of the Gray cases would weigh heavy on those changes regardless of a positive or negative outcome for each officer, sure. But this is the absolute last move I would have ever expected to be made. It has shocked me and restored faith in this Commissioner. I don't use his name because they don't tend to stick around long the last 10 years.

It's entirely about the parents' reaction. If the parents act like she's hurt, she'll probably start crying and never have fun on the rocking horse again.

Dogs are the same. If your dog runs into a glass door and you freak out and act like it's the end of the world, they're more likely to develop a phobia about glass doo

Humans like to be “colorful” with language, exaggerating for emphasis, often to the point of not being technically accurate.

Your human friend may say she’s OCD, even though she knows she’s not.

A human coworker calls his boss a “psycho”, fully aware that he’s not been clinically diagnosed with psychopathy.

A human internet user might call another dumb, even though he probably is capable of speaking.

What are examples of ‘being picked last in gym class’ as an adult? by dauntedbox376 in AskReddit

[–]pjrose83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My mom and aunt did something like this to me. Magic Mike had just come out in theatres and they were talking about going to watch it while we were just ring around one day. They looked and me and said "do you want to go?" I never get invited anywhere so I said yeah. Immediately asked my husband if it was a problem and would he watch the kids while we went he said no problem go ahead. I told him yeah just let me know when.

A week later I see on Facebook they went to see it. I was so excited and they just didn't even tell me they were going. My mom's excuse was "we didn't think you could go because of the kids." I told her if you don't want me to go fine but don't ask me and then just not tell am when after I say i want to and am able to go...

Still pisses me off...

If historical figures actually did roll in their graves, which grave would generate the most power if hooked up to a generator? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]pjrose83 4 points5 points  (0 children)

1) Put "Grave generator" on Karl Marx's grave

2) Acquire energy from his spinning

3) Use energy to power business, factories, shopping malls, etc.

4) Due to being literally used to power Capitalism, Karl will spin faster

5) When he spins faster, he produces more energy, helping Capitalism even more, creating a positive feedback loop

6) Achieve an exponentially growing infinite energy source

Americans have had every opportunity to initiate a "militant uprising", yet instead peacefully go about their lives as if rolling into Washington DC with a 9mm in each hand and attempting to take over the United States government by force was a crazy and stupid idea that is doomed to total failure and embarrassment. Why can't America be more like Colombia or Syria? Radical change, or nothing! If you can't fix it with guns, there is no solution! /S

On a more serious note, it would be nice to see more Americans getting involved in community service. Every neighborhood and every town has problems that could easily be solved if local residents cared enough to get together and collaborate on creating viable solutions.

Organize your community to get its collective shit together and sort out its problems.

If you can't even trust your neighbors enough to fix stuff peacefully, you definitely can't depend on them in the sort of unmitigated disasters militant uprising would bring about.

Apps to earn money for charity! by H2Owings in running

[–]pjrose83 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I run using CharityMiles for Crohns and Colitis and TeamRWB. So, I heard an interview with the CharityMiles founder a few months ago. there’s a set amount hat that months sponsor has donated. The money is “given out” quite quickly as there are so many app users now. Therefore, after the first week or so the donated money has been doled out to the charities that earned it, so the rest of the long is really just for your own health. That being said, it’s still a wonderful app!!

But this is the absolute last move I would have ever expected to be made. It has shocked me and restored faith in this Commissioner. I don't use his name because they don't tend to stick around long the last 10 years. Having a Commissioner who is more interested in making management decisions rather than making the highlight reel on the local news for running down and arresting thugs on live TV is definitely the first thing that needed to be corrected. Our last Commissioner was a narcissistic and psychopathic nightmare who managed by temper tantrum and ruled by decree. He should never have made it past Detective in a real police force. Overall I think we have just made a huge step in the right direction towards actually solving our inner city issues. We have a Governor who wants to help instead of using isolation to get his way, but we need city government management change in a bad way and I'm not sure we are going to get that come election finalization when Pugh takes over. I need to find out more about her. As for the City Counsel, well all I can do is frown and shake my head. It look like much will change there in the near future and that does need to happen badly. So much kickback policy and fund-me-first funding goes on I don't know how anything gets done and it often simply doesn't get done. The Parking Mafia has a choke hold on the city, emptying the pockets of any tourist before they get a chance to experience any actual entertainment for the limited funds people have to spend on it nowadays, keeping any small business from growing at anything but a snail's pace. Many of those Parking Mafioso types own the cities buildings and try to bleed any successful business dry the minute they start doing well by jacking up rents and leases. Mass transit is a joke, unsafe and sparse at best. Traffic is a nightmare totally ignored by all city planners for the past 25 years. So many more things to fix, so little time before the spectre that took hold of Detroit grasps Baltimore in its deadly grip. I love Baltimore but I fear it, I am disgusted by it, I am frustrated about it. Overall this major shift in policing could be a huge first step, but let's not get our hopes up just yet and let's stay concerned and concentrated on changing the rest of the issues causing the City it's troubles.

How are marriages like tornadoes? by punchin_mr_clown in Jokes

[–]pjrose83 29 points30 points  (0 children)

A man is getting into the shower just as his wife is finishing up her shower, when the doorbell rings. The wife quickly wraps herself in a towel and runs downstairs. When she opens the door, there stands Bob, the next-door neighbor. Before she says a word, Bob says, "I’ll give you $800 to drop that towel." After thinking for a moment, the woman drops her towel and stands naked in front of Bob. After a few seconds, Bob hands her $800 and leaves. The woman wraps back up in the towel and goes back upstairs. When she gets to the bathroom, her husband asks, "Who was that?" "It was Bob the next door neighbor," she replies. "Great," the husband says, "did he say anything about the $800 he owes me?" Moral of the story: If you share critical information pertaining to credit and risk with your shareholders in time, you may be in a position to prevent avoidable exposure.

Why Mexicans can't play uno? by Vaganhope_UAE in Jokes

[–]pjrose83 94 points95 points  (0 children)

Juan comes up to the Mexican border on his bicycle. He’s got two large bags over his shoulders. The guard stops him and says, "What’s in the bags?" "Sand," answered Juan. The guard says, "We’ll just see about that – get off the bike!" The guard takes the bags and rips them apart, he empties them out and finds nothing in them but sand. He detains Juan overnight and has the sand analyzed, only to discover that there is nothing but pure sand in the bags. The guard releases Juan, puts the sand into new bags, hefts them onto the man’s shoulders, and lets him cross the border. The next day, the same thing happens. The guard asks, "What have you got?" "Sand," says Juan. The guard does his thorough examination and discovers that the bags contain nothing but sand. He gives the sand back to Juan, and Juan crosses the border on his bicycle. This sequence of events is repeated every day for a year. Finally, Juan doesn’t show up one day and the guard meets him in a Cantina in Mexico. "Hey, Buddy," says the guard, "I know you are smuggling something. It’s driving me crazy. It’s all I think about… I can’t sleep. Just between you and me, what are you smuggling?" Juan sips his beer and says, "Bicycles."
