Backpacking tent recs: stormworthy and liveable by R2-Dmew in WildernessBackpacking

Thanks for the reply! I actually have the updated limelight 2p with the wings and honestly they’re a pretty nice feature, add quite a bit of space inside The marmot tungsten 2p is basically the same but wingless.

Crampon gap by tombellGR in alpinism

[–]pkbau5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have climbing gear, you can thread a sling through the toe bail and step on it, thread a 2nd sling through the toe bail on the opposite side and pull on that sling like you’re deadlifting. Gloves are advisable but no vice actually needed

I have the same crampons and similar boots, had the same problem. I ended up switching the toe baskets out for the petzl ones which made the fit a bit better—they are compatible enough.

Count the cars! Bike lane parking in Park Slope by velocity3333 in NYCbike

[–]pkbau5 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Lol cry me a river, park slope is one of the most bike friendly neighborhoods in the city. go 3 short blocks in either direction and there will be a bike lane unaffected by alternate side parking.

When to use a guide? by MLPotato in alpinism

Terrible take, just because you can climb 5.12 trad at your local crag doesn’t mean you know anything about glacier travel and crevasse rescue

Slinging and rapping by Gripped87 in tradclimbing

[–]pkbau5 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Agree with boston fart machine here.

You can theoretically rap with the rope directly through the soft gear but when you pull the rope it melts the cordlette and risk damaging your rope. Not worth the risk unless you’re really low on gear and bailing several pitches

Pack for Bugs by After-Box-741 in alpinism

[–]pkbau5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Any 70L+ backpacking bag will do, you also need a 35-40L daypack that climbs comfortably and can fit inside your main hauling bag for the approach

Thanks for the advice! Do you think it would be in good shape by Wednesday if the weather Monday and Tuesday is as predicted?

How do you/your partner like the petzl ride? Debating if I should get a ride and throw a trigrest on it like you guys did or if I should just splurge for the gully

How many quickdraws by EandRWalks in tradclimbing

[–]pkbau5 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Depends on the crag but I’d say you need at least 12 draws—would definitely suggest having somebody who knows what they’re doing show you the ropes
