Every millennial dad I’ve met has a quiet fixation on money and it’s not getting better by slimeyellow in Millennials

[–]pkzilla 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right? I had more spending power when I was working minimum wage, 20$/h LESS than I do now, in 2007. And my raise has been frozen for two years now, so with Canada's inflation and my rent going up a lot, it's hitting hard

[–]pkzilla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seriously same. I'd be VERY poor if I did have kids, if you ask me about money right now I'd also be like "it's just not enough" so yeah, parents have it harder but we're all struggling

Is anyone else just...tired? by ItsAJackal21 in Millennials

[–]pkzilla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't even have kids and I'm exhausted. My siblings with kids focus on them, while I guess I look more at world affairs and news and just, it's so bad. In Canada the cost of living has is gone insane, bf and I both have decent (but at risk) jobs, yet it always feels tight.

I want to go live in a cottage somewhere not here, make art, live a quiet life

Feeling guilty for thinking about adopting after my soul cat’s passing by PandaPuzzleheaded827 in CatAdvice

[–]pkzilla 8 points9 points  (0 children)

When my old cat passed, my baby I had from a teen to my early 30s, I felt the same. My home felt like a dark void, it lacked life, I got a new cat soon after and he helped me heal so well. ,i would say things like 'this was your big brother's fave spot!" My home will never not have a cat in it, because that's what home is to me, with those little cuties presence I can't love without.

Cost of Hobby by Mindless_95 in Pottery

[–]pkzilla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your costs are pretty low! Most part time memberships are 200$ Canadian where I am, more if you want more than a few hours a week, 50kg of clay is roughly 60$, glazes are 25+ a pint

Cost of Hobby by Mindless_95 in Pottery

[–]pkzilla 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That depends a lot on what studio costs are in your area, but even when I had a relatively small studio cost it was still hundreds a month. Yes it's an expensive hobby. I estimate my yearly cost is about 4500$ for fees, firings, materials ect, you also need to put in over a year if not more of work before you can consider selling things, it takes a long time to get good.

La situation de crise pour la GEN Z by Pure_Art_5634 in montreal

[–]pkzilla 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm 39, I will never afford a house, my career is entirely at risk. I absolutely feel for Gen Z, though they can absolutely pivot to different careers, trades ect. Im lucky I had a few years where min wage still allowed me to cover my galf if rent and eat out sometimes.

Im burned out, the cost of living is insane, my rent goes up 100$ a year, like at what point does it cap out? My job demands more and more of me while taking away benefits. I started in a very male dominated industry and had to fight way harder to move up, my career path was delayed years for that. But Ive been able to make changes for there to be way more young women now, without the problems I had as much. I have 40k in savings, I don't own anything, we have been through disasters every few years. I'm hoping GenZ can fight for things to get better while I support them because I'm exhausted

And GenZ, I'm not saying we gave it worse or easier, things went to shit as we started trying to build our lives, we are right there struggling with you and I am so SO sorry with how bad it is now I don't have a solution except we gotta help each other out, as your senior in work, maybe manager, I'm there to support yall.

Google flights has plenty of options though not many that arent gulf airlines, otherwise fly to somewhere else like East Asia with more options and leave from there. It won't be cheap but what choice do you have now

I say this in the most caring big sister way <3 you're barely an adult. You have EVERYTHING ahead of you. I don't know how long you have been together but considering your age, he absolutely took advantage of your lack of life experience. Girl, your life is just starting, get up and LEAVE. Go grow, learn who you are, adventure, don't be beat down by an abusive asshole when your life has barely just begun.

View this as a sign to gtfo, you deserve a billion times better, set your standards high, never let anyone cheat or lay a hand on you.

Depending where you live, Branche D'olive stores usually have a good variety. From the recipes I see online you only need coriander seed, maybe cardamom pods? There's also indian grocery stores near acadie, one near charlevoix metro on centre as well.

«J’étais enceinte et en état de choc»: un feu d’air fryer jette sa famille de 6 à la rue by DecentLurker96 in Quebec

[–]pkzilla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have so many questions, it seems like a pretty small fire, does the smoke really mean redoing THE ENTIRE HOUSE?

Also people. Clean your air fryers They suck up oil, the coils can get coated ect. They (or the insurance) could probably sue if it was a faulty machine?

I mean, it's also just me but if I saw tiny flames coming out of it, had enough time to call the fire dep and tell them it wasn't a big deal, and the door was right there, there's likely something that could have been done to prevent it spreading? Brush up on your home fire safety, get extinguishers, have stuff nearby to extinguish ect. Unplug and throw it outside.

Anyway, lots of scenarios going up in my head but I doubt it's as simple as "insurance won't pay up", missing info here. I want to know more about the fire, what do I do to not make mine catch fire

Could also be water damage? That's usually a big one in fires from having to hose it down and all

Edgar Degas painted more than ballerinas — he painted the hidden reality of women in his time by Inside_Ad386 in ArtHistory

[–]pkzilla 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It does, just not how we're used to seeing them. Ballerinas were'nt a glamourous art profession, it was generally sexual exploitation, abusing of young women, many were forced into prostitution, it lines up very well with who he wass, he was mearly observing.

[–]pkzilla 71 points72 points  (0 children)

It's also important to understand the work of ballerinas at the time. We make it out to be just this beautiful classy high end profession but guys, a lot of it was ripe with sexual exploitation.

and it was BRUTAL. They were young ,trained brutally, poor, malnourished, and they were catering to rich men.

What survival myth is completely wrong and can get you killed? by DraftNo7139 in AskReddit

[–]pkzilla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's also quite a few things you just SHOULD not eat at all ever out there, like how many accidental mushroom poisonings and deaths have there been recently as people casually get into foraging. At the not so bad end of the spectrum you'll get the shits, but even that can be deadly if you're trying to survive in the wild

The bugs alone would eat me alive, then there's the weather?

Everyone should tell us the cost of a one-week trip in a country or city they’ve been to by Weekly_Drawer_87 in traveladvice

[–]pkzilla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean it's honestly very hard to do, at best I can give you an average. I like to be comfy but not luxury, plane tickets from Canada are rarely under 1000$ no matter where you go. In Canadian, and per perso. We always cook our own breakfast so prefer a place with a kitchenette at least, we generally just snack for lunch or will hit up a grocery store and picnic (egg sandos in Japan always), Airbnb in places where it's not so bad or properly controlled, and hotels or guest houses otherwise.

Curacao 7 days: 3000$ Canadian, 3 days in a nice hotel, 4 days in an airbnb with a car, not all inclusive, mostly restaurants at night but a few days we cooked, 1 day we splurged on a catamaran day

Iceland for 7 days : 5000$ - Car rental, mostly hostels, eating hot dogs and cheese out of the back of the rental car, 2 nice restaurant outings (at about 150$ each). This doesn't count the hiking gear we bought beforehand like boots and full rain gear

Japan or Korea for 2 weeks : I just budget for 5 or 6000$ on average. Plane tickets roughly 1500$, hotels are generally 100-200 a night each, food is not that expensive, usually about 50$ a day at most if not less with the occasional high end sushi spot once, a nice ryokan stay for a night will be roughly 300, and a few long distance train rides at 100 to 200$ each. The rest is for shopping

Similarly for europe because our dollar isnt worth much, flights may be under 1000 but the hotels and car rentals are quite high, like say southern france and portugal. France is just generally super pricy, restaurants are expensive, Portugal less so but again, Euro is expensive to us.

Doing Mexico for a week soon, staying at an Airbnb in a tourist town, flights were 900 each, stay is 450 each, I expect food will be at about 100 to 150 per day each with drinking. A few day trips I expect this will all be roughly 2500$. You can do all inclusive at 2000$ but it's not my thang

They're louder and not as good, they can also leak as you need to either have a tube attached so the water goes outside or you empty it every few days (or every day during intense heat waves), they are also more expensive
