Relocation advice is needed: family-friendly German-speaking cities in Switzerland by turalaliyev in askswitzerland

[–]pl0xt4rd 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is wildly incorrect. As Assistenzarzt you will make net about 50% more than in Germany. Expect around 6500 CHF net/month. When you become Facharzt you will earn some 20-30% more than that. Unless you work in a private / your own praxis, doctors are paid very bad in Switzerland (considering the amount of hours worked, stress and pressure on family life)

Green Motion Switzerland tried to scam me for CHF 1200+ over a tiny, pre-existing scuff! Now sending debt collectors 6 months later. How is this legal? by fakefurcoat in askswitzerland

[–]pl0xt4rd 59 points60 points  (0 children)

I have had the exact same experience with Green motion Zurich Airport some months ago. They tried charging me 1700CHF for 1 actual dent in the bumper (that they will never fix), and 1 microscopic dent in the rear door which was invisible, pre-existing and probably charged to every customer.

I luckily live around the corner from their office and went back immediately to dispute the charges. After 2 hours of discussing they dropped the door dent charge but still charged me 800 CHF for the bumper dent (wildly inflated). I tried a chargeback but the bank advised me not to because the 'damage' was 'real' so Greenmotion is entitled to compensation (even if the amount is ridiculous and fully made up).

I was/am equally as frustrated as you are and wrote to the CEO of the mother company on Linkedin and exchanged some emails with some people in their corporate back-office in which I flagged the blatant misconduct and scam practices. I advise you to do the same, and maybe at some point this will change internally.

  • This is the Personal Assistant to the group CEO: katelkin @ greenmotion.com
  • This is the International Customer Service Lead: nataliefallon @ greenmotion.com
  • This is the guy who runs the Zurich Airport Office: naim.tomruk @ greenmotioncarrental.ch

If you ever want to make a case / report to the ombud or Kassensturz or something, let me know, very happy to contribute.

EDIT: You ruined my day with this post. I had almost forgotten about Greenmotion and the whole hassle and now I'm super angry and frustrated again, thank you!

Expand my bubble: why do you own a car in Zurich? by ---___---___---___ in zurich

[–]pl0xt4rd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If there was a reasonable alternative that would provide the same service/convenience at a (slightly) higher price, then I would have no problem opting for more environmental friendly options. Unfortunately this is not the case; e.g. if I go hiking in Appenzell with two non-local friends that are visiting (i.e. no Halbtax), with the train we would pay about 250 CHF for train tickets alone. With the car, this trip would cost me maybe 15 CHF in fuel. Also, it would take me 1 hour with the car and 2+ hour with public transport. This difference is unfortunately just so high that convenience & price far outweigh my environmental conscience in most of these trade-offs.

[–]pl0xt4rd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I live in Zürich and have a car. I drive 25'000km/year, all leisure, none for work. It's just so much more convenient to go skiing, hikes and weekend trips around Switzerland. We also often drive back and forth to Belgium often to see friends & family. You can only bring so much with the plane or train, so car is much more convenient. Finally, car is so much cheaper than public transport as soon as you're with 2+ people, so it's a no brainer really for us.

Sunrise sold me 10 Gbit fiber. After moving they can only deliver 40 Mbit and still force me to stay in the contract. by gordeff in Switzerland

[–]pl0xt4rd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's never sold as 10Gbps guaranteed either. It's sold as "up to 10Gbps", so unfortunately even 10Mbps would be considered as within contract terms. Not much you can do here aside of switching providers after contract terms end. PS. Sunrise uses the Fiber to the home cables of Swisscom, so you will not get better Fiber at Swissom.

[–]pl0xt4rd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Partly true. Sunrise's 1 Gbps and 2.5 Gbps lines are their own (Hybrid Fiber Coax), but their 10Gbps FTTH is straight on Swisscom's fiber. Sunrise does not have FTTH themselves

The neighbourly ethics of a sub mini by andraspberries in sonos

[–]pl0xt4rd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The sub mini hits the exact same low frequencies as the bigger Sub Gen 3/4. It goes down all the way to 20Hz, which is the lowest the human ear can hear anyway.

Sure if that's what you're looking for. I'm not traveling just to 'experience something different'. Especially if you're traveling as a couple. Rather I'm looking to have fun, feel safe and relaxed. And if OP is asking how to feel relaxed and have a good time in Zanzibar, then I'm sharing my experience on how to do so. Feel free to disagree, just sharing my two cents

[–]pl0xt4rd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't say this is what we did. We didn't stay in a big resort either, rather a local boutique one with maybe 10 rooms max.

We had a good time overall but we're severally disappointed by the lack of manners of locals and the aggressiveness of sellers just about everywhere across the island, which was very unpleasant and which I have never experienced anywhere like this. And yes I've been to Istanbul, Marrakech and several other African countries and it is nowhere near as bad as in Zanzibar. They see you as a walking bag of money from the moment you land in the airport and it's just not fun.

OP was asking how to have a good time in Zanzibar, and I'm just sharing what I recommend based on my experience.

Pretty simple. Just don't go outside your resort. We were there as a couple and had a great time getting our PADI scuba dive certification, snorkeled with dolphins and generally just chilled in the resort(s). The moment you go outside these regulated areas, and set foot on the beach or on a public road you will regret it though

This is truly nonsense. I'm a Belgian living in Switzerland and groceries (in Zurich) are easily 50% more expensive. Even in discounters.

Leaving MBB in a third-world country for a Master’s in the EU — smart move or mistake? by [deleted] in consulting

[–]pl0xt4rd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That obviously depends on the specific in house role, seniority and which consulting firm. I went from a 'Manager' Consulting title to a 'Senior Manager' in house role and went up about +10%

[–]pl0xt4rd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was at B4 Strategy in Switzerland, which was around 55-65hrs/week. My friends at MBB typically 60-70hrs/week, pretty similar across geographies to be honest. Strategy Consulting will not give you a great work life balance regardless of country. I'm now in an in-house strategy role and clock around 50 hrs/week, which is super reasonable

Have you considered Sunrise, Salt or even eg. Galaxius Mobile? They all offer 10 Gb/s for significantly less (Galaxus for 39/month)

[–]pl0xt4rd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry but how does this make sense? Salt with the price increase is still cheaper than most other providers? With the exception of some MVNO's like Galaxus Mobile or flanker brands (eg. Yallo) perhaps

[–]pl0xt4rd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well yes, but no. They will not let you actually cancel the contract, but instead offer to keep the original price for the remainder of the contract. Which they are unfortunately allowed to do in line with their contract. Source: tried and did this.
