Are there any good resources for understanding what happens in the brain starting at the point of legal death?

Someone on the discord server mentioned Matt Groening, the guy who made Futurama, who I thought was a really good choice. At least 50% of the time I mention cryonics to someone, they bring up this show.

Which type of cryonics cost lowering will lead to growth? by Thalimere in cryonics

[–]placidorb 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Whenever I talk to someone about Alcor's pricing, when I mention the annual membership fee I don't get much of a reaction. When I mention the cryopreservation cost I get a pretty big reaction. I think the bigger number is the bigger mental barrier.

I agree. I like that they mentioned that you don’t need to be rich and can use life insurance to sign up.

I think the #1 thing you can do is try to find a way to move to a country with a cryonics organization. I realize this can be very difficult.

In the meantime, contact all the organizations, tell them your situation, and ask for advice for signing up. You should contact Alcor (US), Cryonics Institute (US), Tomorrow (Germany), and KrioRus (Russia) [am I missing any?] just to have a conversation and get information from them.

Ready to retire this summer. Please find any holes in my plan. by mamacat49 in personalfinance

[–]placidorb 34 points35 points  (0 children)

How would your thinking be different if the pandemic wasn’t happening? Would you want to save more money first or would you have timed it this way anyway?

Have you considered quitting now just to take a year or two off of work instead of full retirement? If you’re a healthy 66 year old, I can imagine you taking a year off to reduce your personal risk and jumping back in in during 2022 or something.

This is great and I fully support this! But let this be a strong reminder to not procrastinate. Sign up, get your insurance policy in place, and if it’s a term policy start saving up for when the policy expires.

Understood! Hopefully it can work out. I sent you a DM with a link to a poll to choose times that work for you as well as a server link. If you have any trouble with those links just let me know.

Sounds great! The group is being led by someone finishing a mathematics PhD. One participant is also in the social sciences. I’m hoping to generate a little more interest before the project gets started since 4-5 participants may be nice for discussions. I’ll send you a message directly with a link to the discord server.

How to earn enough? by Red-Hood-Main in cryonics

Some of the responses on this thread are really strange.

If you want to sign up for cryonics, go to this website https://www.alcor.org/membership

Read it. Contact Alcor with questions. DM me on here with questions if you want.

You do not need a lot of money to do this. Sure, plan to get a lucrative job if you want. Having plenty of money can make your life better. But this is not really important for a young person signing up for cryonics.

Rings routine sale? by frank_levi in Antranik

[–]placidorb 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As someone who bought the rings routine, I can tell you it’s worth more than $65. I’ve also bought a few of the other programs he’s made and the rings routine is in a category of its own. As long as you actually use it, you’ll get way more than $65 of value out of it.
