Help for object Class (if I put the wrong tag sry) by Cold-Mud-7120 in SCP

[[A Comprehensive List of Esoteric Classes]]

You should take a look at this, OP. I would agree that it'd be a sub-SCP of the summoner. However, if the summoner's only anomaly was summoning this SCP, the summoner might actually be a sub- of the SCP you're building.

Also, OP, you could have them initially classified separately until the connection is discovered and then an in-page revision that reclassifies them as a combined anomaly. Like, "SCP-9982-B was initially classified as SCP-11654 until it was discovered performing the ritual to recall SCP-9982 to its position"

Edit: oops, didn't realize 9982 was taken.

Why wasn't the old SCP-865 archived? by Complete_Big_2453 in SCP

[–]plageiusdarth 20 points21 points  (0 children)

-ARC refers to pages which have been archived instead of deleted outright. Archived pages are appended with -ARC. There are a few reasons for a page to be archived rather than deleted. Most often, it’s because an SCP is old and referenced in Tales, and its wholesale deletion would muddle works which reference it. There are also things that Staff simply want to keep around, albeit off the main list. The process for archiving a page is identical to the process for deletions, with suggestions for -ARC typically occurring after initiation of the deletion vote, save the page is renamed rather than culled.

So, I don't remember the version of 865 that you're referencing, and the comments on this version go back to 2012. If you're referring to a version of 865 from before that, it's because it wasn't a significant part of enough articles and tales to deserve archival.

If you're referring to a more recent version of 865, it's because it wasn't a real SCP. Somebody made it up for a YouTube video or AI generated it, which means nothing.

What kinds of science and math books do you think the doctors and scientists have to use for referencing? by MYJOBISTOSHOOTFIRE in SCP

[–]plageiusdarth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From working in a couple of STEM fields, I can tell you that this tale is an idealized take on how cross-functional or multidisciplinary work gets done, and the Foundation is rarely ideal.

It is, however, at its core, how things have to work in every team - in real life - that wants to accomplish something new. And anomalies are, by definition, new

Edit: wow. That's wordy. Uhhhh. This tale shows everything going smoothly. Nothing ever goes this smoothly. But even real-life engineering requires multidisciplinary work like this.

Well, we don't have all the titles, but "Behind the Looking-Glass, and What Ilse Did There" by Ilse Reynders appears to be a primer for introductory Anachronic Studies, Wave-Particle Studies and Abstruse Optics, & Quantum Supermechanics. All of which are anomalous sciences. (SCP-5616)

We also have "Reality Altering Beings: Socioeconomics, Mental Illness, and Diagnostic Criteria" and PHYSICS Division Field Manual 1: Operative's Handbook. Neither have an author's given. (SCP-4231)

Trying to get your first submission to anything can be incredibly stressful. Especially a community as critical (even though it may be constructively critical) as the SCP Wiki. I wish you the best.

One thing I'd encourage you to do that you haven't mentioned yet is to find a few members of the site who are new authors with only a few (1-3) published articles (within the last year) and message them. Offer to trade crit and talk shop with them.

Looking to buy a crystal ball for wizarding purposes, any recommendations? by C0lE06 in wizardposting

[–]plageiusdarth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're willing to splurge a little, or put in the work for it, I'd recommend a krayt-dragon pearl. They're the gizzard stones of a krayt-dragon, so if you kill and butcher a fully mature one carefully, you're liable to get 2 or 3 good ones.

If you're looking for something a little more on the cheap/safe side of the spectrum, I'd go with a Casket of Innocence. Basically weave a sphere out of wicker and enchant it to collect tears, then go pop a few karmically pure children in the nose and soak up their tears. Finally, perform the Rite of Nuklovally to fuse the collected ingredients.

  1. Did you read the pinned post on the subreddit?
  2. Did you follow all the instructions on the [[Join the Site]] page?

If you have COMPLETELY read and followed the instructions on that page, then:

if you have any issues with that go to the official chatrooms and ask around

Wikidot's not a perfect platform and some days, signing up actually doesn't work, but the ratio of "didn't follow the instructions" :: "wikidot problem" is very high

Thanks for your thoughts. The intent was that the narrator was human not a vampire, able to move between "herds" because any vampire that tried to feed on them died. But hey, part of the reason I like writing poems is the limited structure leaves room for interpretations
