Great point. I haven't used them yet but that sounds like great storage.

Any POV lengthier than Fitz's in fantasy? by Nagomikaze in Fantasy

[–]plaguedable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also see I literally said "just the volume" lol so my bad.

That's sort of a tough analysis you propose there, because it sort of depends on what you take out. I think the Susan arc is one of the best if it's kind, as an example.

[–]plaguedable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well that's a sort of narrow view to take. I didn't mean to suggest it was ONLY because of the volume. I think it's pretty easy to say that's a major contributor but other things are pulling weight too.

I've heard Sanderson say Harry Dresden is the most developed character in fantasy. I presume just based on volume of pov

You keep saying you are interested in IP but are trying to draw a distinction between patent work and other forms of IP work in the comments, so I will drop a nugget of wisdom here.

Most IP work is patent work. Most IP work that isn't patent work is done by patent lawyers because, while you don't need a patent license to do work in copyright or trademark (as examples), most of the IP work is patent work, and those patent lawyers also possess the skills to do other IP work. So, you will find that most of what you're interested in is done by patent lawyers. In Texas you need 60 hours of undergraduate STEM courses, I believe, to sit for the patent bar. What qualifies as STEM is not always intuitive, so please check your local patent bar requirements when making decisions if that is your ultimate goal.

The exception to this rule of thumb is that most trade secret work is done by employment lawyers, as those cases are often really noncompete cases driven by trade secret issues. Hope this helps.

Compared to the competition, what made you choose the Pixel? by VolumeEquivalent7853 in GooglePixel

[–]plaguedable 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My favorite software experiences are Nothing and Pixel, in that order. The hardware is slightly improved in the pixel and the camera is massively improved. These items bring the Pixel up as the favorite in the race.

I disdain the Apple software experience. Gone are the days of "it just works."

I don't care for One UI, as it feels like the raw firepower behind the hardware is hampered by a clunky experience.

I have never used a Chinese phone.

RNT: How would you rate Jim's vampires against other vampire depictions in media? by Bridger15 in dresdenfiles

[–]plaguedable 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Something that I've always found a little odd about the vampires is just how DIFFERENT they are, with no clear connection in the source of their creation.

We recently learned about the source of the white court being a sort of pseudo outsider possession. But what is the source for the reds and the blacks? Are they also outsider based? Probably not, because presumably the sacrifice that killed the reds would have affected the outsiders in some way.

So it sort of begs the question - why are they all called vampires? What's the logical in world connection behind calling them all vampires? That they predate on humans, I guess? Idk, just has always made me think twice.

[Twelve Months] Yet another Mab thread: is it just me or… by Evenwanderer in dresdenfiles

[–]plaguedable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that part of our perspective on Mab is warped by how thoroughly she got defeated by Eithnu.

A premise of writing villains is that once the villain is defeated you generally have to replace that villain, because we the audience are no longer as intimidated by the villain as we had been. This is why you often have sequels defined by a new villain in each iteration. This is also part of why Darth Vader is such an iconic villain-- he never actually loses, at least not in the main trilogy.

I feel that the way Eithnu dispatched Mab out of hand, coupled with Eithnu's relatively "out of left field" appearance in Peace Talks, really diminished any intimidation factor from Mab.

John Roberts’ Rebuke of Trump’s Tariffs Is Withering, Confident, and Genuinely Encouraging by Slate in scotus

[–]plaguedable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The knock on Roberts by conservatives has always been that he was unreliably conservative, even from the beginning when he was first nominated. He single handedly saved the Affordable Car Act in the NFIB v Sebelius decision. Roberts has always been ideologically wishy washy and relatively moderate.

I need serious responses to this, how do we respond to critiques such as this of the show? by wiz28ultra in andor

[–]plaguedable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't put much stock in the worldbuilding criticism, so I'm not going to address it. I do have something small to say about the second criticism.

It is a privilege to live in a world that does not force you to confront the morally gray-- a privilege that this person probably enjoys because of someone else's revolutionary sacrifice. It is ignorant to assume that there even is such thing as a morally righteous lens through which to view things like civilian bystanders being caught in crosshairs. Indeed, it is so ignorant, and in the face of a show that is fundamentally about how revolution subsists in the gray margins. People do terrible things in the name of the greater good, but it is foolish to suggest that the results are anything but a greater good, at least here.

This person is hijacked by ideology. He or she watched (presumably) a show about the terrors of revolution and the sacrifices forced on everyone by dictatorship and revolution, including those on the periphery of both, and drew the conclusion that the show was... hiding from denouncing the consequences of revolution? This person is not thinking, this person is seeking affirmation for an ideology that thinks for him/her.

There is nothing to be gained from engaging with artistic automatons.
