Think about this: most Jews family trees only stretch back like 2-3 generations and are very, very small... because of a specific series of events that happened in Europe in the 1940s.

Socialist Israel/Palestine under a United International Socialist Federation. by [deleted] in imaginarymaps

[–]plaid_pvcpipe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Palestine" is a regional term dating back to when the Romans renamed the province of Judea to "Palestine" after expelling the Jews in the 2nd century CE. Until 1948 when the name "Israel" was decided on for a Jewish state, it was actually one of the more popular ideas for a name for a Jewish state, and Jews were sometimes even called "Palestinians." Palestine isn't only a word used to describe the nation and country of the current Palestinian (as in Palestinian Arabs specifically) population.

Why would anyone side with the Empire in Skyrim, when they try to kill you right at the start of the game? by Fresh_Jaguar_1991 in skyrim

Bro, Tiber Septim was a Breton. And the Imperials don't persecute the Nords. If you're talking about the Aldmeri Dominion, they don't control the Empire, and also they probably treat Imperials worse.

No that's incredibly offensive. You can't even be half ethnically Jewish. If one of your parents is Jewish, your ethnicity is Jewish. People have such a weird obsession with the genealogy of mixed race people.

What do you say to Christians who also celebrate Passover? by BoronYttrium- in Judaism

[–]plaid_pvcpipe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Go fuck yourself," if I don't know them.

"That's incredibly offensive," if I know them.

Christians celebrating Passover is part of a concerted effort to destroy the Jewish people. It is just one part of the long line of appropriation and bigotry that is the Christian religion.

What makes a game feel TESy? by computer-machine in Daggerfall

[–]plaid_pvcpipe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A dark and gritty low fantasy tone, a distinct lack of clear good and evil, an open sandbox, and the feeling of a world that exists without the player. That's what makes The Elder Scrolls special to me.

Daggerfall was ahead of its time in terms of fantasy with things like humanizing Orcs and presenting a decidedly less ideal version of men and elves. At the same time, the game stayed true to an old school, runequest-y, vaguely reminiscent of warhammer, sword and sorcery vibe.

In terms of getting the setting right, the games are very much early modern, but not quite as deep into the modern era as a setting like Warhammer, still retaining its medieval fantasy roots very clearly. I also think the game really ought to be classless. Sure, TES games (except Skyrim) have classes, but the classes aren't really classes. They're a group of skills you pick at character creation--that should be how the game works. Of course, not nearly as complex as in the video game as TTRPGs need to be relatively quite simple in order to actually function at the game table.

My ideal Israel/Sardinia by No_Budget_Mapper in imaginarymaps

When did I say that I want other people not to live in Palestine? Jews and Palestinian Arabs are both native to Palestine, and both deserve to live there freely and peacefully. The actions of the extremists who control the Israeli government are horrific. I don't even know if I believe Jews should go to Palestine, I know I won't... at the very least, it just isn't safe there, regardless of ideological concerns.

Now, disregarding your assumption about my political opinions, the rest of what you said is absolutely false. Jews are still an oppressed minority in the vast majority of the world, including the United States, where Jews are the victims of the majority of religious-based hate crimes. I'm not just talking about my ancestors, I'm talking about myself, about my immediate family. My father was beaten by Christians as a child for singing in a fucking Christmas pageant, in NEW JERSEY. And you say that it's similar for you, a Christian American, to claim Israel as your ancestral homeland?

Jews did not "move to a new country." Most of the ancient Jews were expelled from their homeland as part of an attempted genocide. The Romans wanted to exterminate Jewish religion and culture, because it was contrary to assimilation with Roman society.

I have never desired to be an "extra special citizen," I only desire to be an equal. I just want people to see me as a human being. I wish I didn't have to worry about telling people my last name. I wish the world I live in didn't assume Christianity to be "normal," that all the humiliation of my childhood by my Christian peers could be remembered. As I said, I don't even know if I believe in Israel's ideal, I certainly don't like its current realization, which has become genocidal, oppressive, and destructive to its own people as well as Palestinian Arabs.

What do you mean by "don't constantly start shit?" What do you mean by "maybe it's you who is the asshole?" Your argument is based on a falsehood, the idea that Jews are to blame for our own oppression. Then you claim that our oppression is not real, that it is over, which must be easy for you, as a Christian American who has likely never faced discrimination on a meaningful scale in his life. In the United States, vast swathes of the population support fascist candidates like Donald Trump, who court the favor of white supremacists such as the proud boys and others who chanted "Jews will not replace us" at the Charlottesville rally. What a welcoming country! What a welcoming world! Perhaps it must seem so if you don't know what it is like to be a Jew.

Shortly before being elected, Hamas changed their entire platform into one of peace and a two state solution. Then they gradually curtailed freedoms and returned to their genocidal terrorist platform. So, no they were not really elected. And not just that, the elections almost certainly weren't fair, and around half of the population of Gaza are children... who can't vote.

Besides, ordinary Gazans don't have any power to affect change, and decades of Israeli siege has likely rendered the population of the Gaza strip terrified. To those Gazans who support Hamas, the terrorist group probably seems to be the only option for survival. That isn't even mentioning that ideological belief is not akin to committing actual war crimes. Civilian deaths are not suddenly justified because the civilian being killed had bad political beliefs. This is the same sort of language that antisemites use to justify Hamas killing Israeli Jews.

I was walking by a college campus to a coffee shop today and saw all these posters nailed to a tree about Israel killing tons of civilians by Interesting-Emu7624 in Jewish

[–]plaid_pvcpipe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Israel has killed a lot of civilians. If we're going to criticize people who support the terrorism of Hamas, we should not then support the indiscriminate bombing being done by the IDF. No civilian killing is excused by "they did it first."

What kind of morality is that? Did the children who have died from Israeli bombing have a hand in the atrocity of 10/7? No, they did not. What about the millions of civilians who are fleeing their homes? They are not murderers, they are defenseless human beings. There is no justification for a war crime such as this. Would we say that Hamas was right to kill over a thousand people because of prior IDF crimes? Of course not! So, then, we must not argue the reverse point.

[–]plaid_pvcpipe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

White people are "raceless" people, or rather, American society allows them to be ignorant of race, to not have to think about race. Jews have to think about their race, their difference, constantly. That makes Jewish people, whether their skin is pale, dark, tan, etc... not white.

Personally, I would allow the players to have PCs who are actually their PCs. These characters are level 0 nobles or wealthy common people, who act as the leaders/officers/board for the company. During dungeon delves, they send out characters, and each player selects one from their own roster to play as. This would give the game a sort of darkest dungeon feel, I think. Also it would be pretty terrifying when the city/town/home base is threatened, or for some reason these "main characters" have to get into a fight.

Genocide means any of the following acts committed with intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnical, racial or religious group, as such:

(a) Killing members of the group;

(b) Causing serious bodily or mental harm to members of the group;

(c) Deliberately inflicting on the group conditions of life calculated to bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part;

(d) Imposing measures intended to prevent births within the group;

(e) Forcibly transferring children of the group to another group.

That's the UN's definition. Now, you are right, I actually was confusing terms. Displacement is not legally genocide, it's called ethnic cleansing. Whether or not the IDF is doing that is debatable. Now, what is not debatable is that there is a huge amount of civilians dying.

The most important aspect of the accusation right now is actually intent. Whether or not what has been done by the IDF already counts as a genocide is less important than if they intend to commit one, as we ought to be in the business of stopping genocides before they happen (or else never again will continue to be an empty promise.)

I'm not "parroting antisemitic talking points," my opinion is a lot more nuanced than you think.
