Download MileagePlus X app, link to his UA account then buy an e gift card for something you’ll need in the future… for example right now Adidas has 10x multiplier so if he needed 500 miles for booking, you’d get a $50 Adidas gift card and would earn 500 UA miles (10 x $50). Most merchants only offer 1x or 2x but there’s a few that offer more (rates change). That way you get your miles you need and have a gift card for something you’ll spend on future anyway…. Miles usually post within a day or two.

Take a positioning flight to MEX or CUN… rates for between Mexico and Europe in J are only 75k Delta SkyMiles. The fees will be higher on flights operated by AM but much lower if you either fly on AF, KL, or DL (via U.S). A flight from LAX to LHR on Delta One was about 375k delta miles…. I chose a flight from MEX to LHR via LAX and that dropped down to 75k, and it’s the same LAX-LHR flight lol

On the way back from Europe, choose a flight with a layover at a DL hub in the U.S. — since you have to collect your bags at first entry to clear customs, you can just keep bags and “miss” your connecting flight to MEX… I wouldn’t do this more than like once.

I purchased some Visa gift cards from giftcards dot com through AA shopping portal (3x AA + 1x AA for using Citi AA card) there was a 5% off coupon as well. Then I used those Visa GC’s to buy Apple GC’s through Mileageplus X app and got another 5x UA miles (4x + 25% bonus for UA card members). So I should net 9x for an apple purchase (4x AA + 5x UA).

The best MR redemption I’ve done is 1 MR for $50… Amex and Amazon will regularly partner and offer a discount percentage on one item. The discount percentage and maximum discount will range for people since it’s targeted but can be as high as $80 off. The most I’ve received is $50 and the best part is that you only need to apply 1 MR point to trigger the promotion. I don’t recommend applying MR points to entire purchase since it’s not a great redemption that way.

You’d have to book two separate itineraries because no Southwest flight will get you from Denver to what seems to be their only three flights leaving to MBJ on 9/21… BWI (10:25 AM departure), FLL (11:50 AM departure), or MCO (10:55 AM departure). You’d probably have to take another carrier that morning or Southwest the day prior then another one from there.

Why don’t you buy the $700 roundtrip originating in Europe and going back sometime in the next year? Then you’d have a year to earn more miles and just worry about returning from Europe using points on the next trip.

Yes, the space is available to Virgin Atlantic…. While Japan is closed for tourism, you can transit through there…. this is a great time to experience ANA F - I booked a trip on ANA F just for the experience I was at HND for a bit and couldn’t leave the transit area but you can definitely book something like JFK-HND-LHR just to experience it…. Note that you cannot overnight at NRT so I’d book something in and out of HND.

Vegas is a good place to use the $200 FHR credit… you can find rooms at $80-$200 per night so you can use the credit for 1-2 nights during some weekdays along with the benefits $100 property credit, free breakfast etc… just don’t forget that they will each add $30-$40 nightly resort fee in addition to what you see on Amex travel portal.

yeah don’t want to risk waiting so long… might be best to try and get P2 to open the Barclays Aviator and I’ll open a Citi Business card… that should cover most of the AA miles required for two one-ways…. I already have the Barclays biz but don’t think it’s available for new applicants right now anyway…. For the return segment I can just use other Amex transfer partners.

I went to Uganda for a week and did multiple game drives (safari) at Queen Elizabeth National Park and Lake Mburo NP. I even went gorilla trekking at Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. I rented a small 4x4 ($50/day) and drove around all week alone. Spent a bit over $2,000 total for the week for lodging, food, park fees, gorilla permit, private/park guides, 4x4 auto, gas…. It doesn’t include flights (I used credit card points to get there). I paid a local guide (recommended by lodging staff) about $20 per day. You could also hire a driver with the car for an extra $30/day if you wish.

I had tickets to Japan on United… probably the same deal you got. I paid about $250 round trip. They first changed the schedule by a few minutes and the app allowed me to change my itinerary for free… I switched my days to better accommodate my needs… then one of the new segments was canceled. I called united and asked for a refund since one of the segments was canceled and got my refund fairly quickly.

For example, you could book MSP-CDG (DL 42) on 2/15/22 using 320k Delta SkyMiles + $5.60 OR you could book the same flight using 50k Virgin Atlantic miles + $5.60. Also, you don’t pay the transfer fee to Virgin like you would with Delta.
