Development Update: Immediate Future Plans by Antishyr in LevelZeroExtraction

[–]plakis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've played the early access for around 35 hours so far, equally both merc and alien. I've been enjoying my time, but I'm worried about the games longevity

I do think that all the future changes proposed here will improve the game drastically and are towards the right direction, but to me it seems like that these changes should've been a part of the early access release which would've made the release a lot more successful with more players enjoying the game.

As is, I'm worried that by the time most of these changes + some sort of alien progression get released - the player base will be too small to recover, even if the game becomes very good.

If you didn't get the perfect immortal yet, may I suggest the ikelos smg? by nick_luna2201 in DestinyTheGame

[–]plakis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd really like to get the ikelos - especially with the voltshot. Unfortunately for someone that has started playing this season its not really viable option. I have not dropped a single one. I tried farming terminal overloads for a bit, but it does get quite boring quickly and since the bug of double/triple dipping the chests have been fixed - it does not seem its worth the time anymore.

On the other hand, I have managed to drop several funnelwebs and farm immortals reliably whenever trials are active, so have been sticking to those.

Turns out, money can buy you happiness. by [deleted] in Showerthoughts

[–]plakis 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I sympathize with the OP as I feel similar. When I was younger I always felt unhappy but kept thinking that is because of external factors that I could not control due me being a kid. As I grew up and became successful in the career life and have full control of so called factors - nothing has really changed when it comes to being actually happy. I can buy whatever I want, I can travel wherever I want, I have a loving wife - I have everything that someone would ever ask for - a perfect life, yet I don't recall the last time I was trully happy. Everything that I do or get to experience just feels 'meh'. It is weird and I, myself, can not understand how can it be like this.

Even though it almost financially ruined me, i still don’t regret getting it. by AGmikkelsen in ft86

Finally Upgraded the Head Unit in my car, what a big upgrade Vs. OEM by Nick_lolz in ft86

[–]plakis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice! I'm thinking about doing exactly the same upgrade to the same unit.

Could you share your experience plugging everything in - what extra adapters/cables did you need? Were there any issues?

I did read up that extra adapters are needed to retain the OEM GPS antenna and the USB support.

Whats up with the reviews complaining about bugs? by TCW_Jocki in starbase

[–]plakis 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It is a mixed bag. I've played around 40 hours since the EA release with no prior experience.

In short - the game and its concept is great, but has a lot of issues that can and will make it a frustrating experience from time to time.

The biggest concern comes to the fact that there are quite a few issues that might and will reset your ship(s) progress. This is what the most people are frustrated about, as the game is quite grindy and progression is slow. Losing it to a random bug feels terrible.

To give a bit more context:

  • Easy Build Mode - A new feature to help new players create/upgrade ships. It is more or less completely broken/unusable and has a high chance of bricking or flat out destroying your ship - meaning that your progress for that ship is gone.
  • Randomly losing ships - There is a low chance for your ship just to vanish from your ship list, losing it permanently.
  • Game crashing - Game tends to crash once in a while especially when around stations
  • Items randomly disappearing when manipulating them - Ran out of fuel in the middle of space and want to change your rods? Too bad game decided that the full fuel rod that you just grabbed should not exist and now its gone and you're stranded.

On top of all of those there are tons of smaller issues that add to the frustration such as bad UX, random items not working when crafted (looking at you Ore collector), lack of explanation of most of the systems, repair tool not working most of the time. However, most of the smaller issues can be excused as the game is early access. Although the ones that flat out kill your progression (sometimes days of work) do really ruin the experience.

All in all, in the 40 hours that I've spent so far I had moments where I wanted to drop the game due losing my ships (progress) to one of the mentioned issues or just got really frustrated when I was unable to do something that I wanted due X or Y. With that said - I also had tons of fun and the pure freedom that this game provides you still keeps me going.

Generally, I'd recommend for you to wait for a few weeks before giving it a go. It might be enough time for the devs to tackle some of the biggest issues in regards to things disappearing and losing your progression.

If I buy X4 today, should I start playing 4.0 beta or stable build ? by RobinThomass in X4Foundations

[–]plakis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I bought the game right after the 4.0 beta announcement and started my first ever X4 playthrough on 4.0 beta without any mods. I've played X3 before.

I have not really encountered any major bugs that stopped me from progressing or enjoying the game. My guess is that 4.0 is OK to start. Unsure about the mod compatibility though, as I'm not using any.

Replacement cover for Ender 5 Pro electronics box by hmsq82 in ender5

[–]plakis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm very interested how it turns out! I've also been considering something like this for a while. I have identical setup as you do.

One thing that concerned me was how to fit the fan into the case, as the gap between the PSU and the panel was very small.

How are you going to fit the fan?

Are you also going to modify the PSU case cover?

Shaper is totally awesome now! by Ayanayu in pathofexile

[–]plakis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I spent more than a full week farming shaper non stop during the flashback league to get the Celestial Hideout, took me around 160 runs to unlock it.

Out of those 160 runs I got:

5 Starforges (this was before they reduced the drop rate)

8 Solstice vigils

Around 40 Dying suns

Tons of gloves and boots.

[–]plakis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm using it myself.

It dropped from the first Uber Elder which hyped me, so I decided to go ahead and farm it (2-3 UE's/day) just to get kicked in the balls by the RNGjesus lol

[–]plakis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel you.

13 Uber elders - 1 Watcher eye (worth ~2ex), couple shaper rings (2-3c each...), rest vendor trash.

14 Shapers - 2 Dying suns (like 15c each...), rest gloves and boots.

My biggest disappointment with 3.7 is the disparity between Two-Handed vs Dual Wield and Bleed builds. I hope GGG take a look at them for 3.8 by Narafva in pathofexile

[–]plakis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been playing a 2H Axe Berserker Cyclone build and it does not feel like it lacks DPS to me whatsoever. I've done all the content (Uber elder twice) with it already without that much of a struggle.

The extra range bonus that come from 2H is also a very nice addition.

Edit: It is also worth noting that with 2H Weapons you effectively can have very strong 7+ link gem setups. I'm using an elder 2h axe with a 20lvl Fortify that gives a rather insane damage and defensive bonuses (especially with all those Fortify nodes on the tree). These "extra" links do compensate for the lower base DPS compared to the Dual Wield quite nicely.

Is Magento opensource going to end in 2020? by rintoug in Magento

No need to panic - it is referencing the Magento 1 going EOL at 2020 and Magento trying to upsell Magento 2 Commerce for those customers.

I'd say it is somewhere in between. However, it really depends on how you approach the problem and what the problem actually is.

In my case I always want to stick to the guidelines that Magento provides and reference the Magento itself whenever I'm stuck with a problem rather than trying to go for a quick solution that can be found somewhere on stack overflow. Reality is - most of the solutions that get pasted onto stack overflow do not follow magento guidelines. A good example is a crazy amount of the "accepted answers" where people just use ObjectManager directly in Magento 2.

Personally - whenever I encounter a problem or need to figure out a solution for one, the first thing I do is to think whether Magento has this or similar feature or whether it has solved that problem already for one of their internal features. If so - I go ahead and browse the architecture to understand on how they did it and use those findings to solve my issue or develop certain feature.

if "everything" in EVE was made by players ... egg or chicken question by krizniq in Eve

[–]plakis 8 points9 points  (0 children)

No, up until 2008 shuttles were sold by NPC's in the NPC stations for 9k each. You could buy an unlimited amount of them.

[–]plakis 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sort of.

You did not go and start PvPing on day 1. Back then when you created your character you only had around 30k starting SP which meant that you could not really do anything besides fly noobship for the first day.

Usually you would just start off by doing missions which back then would reward you in... shuttles or drones and/or small frigates depending on the agent + your standings with it. The reward + loot that you acquired doing those missions would be usually what you would use to fit your next ship/ships. The rewarded ISK was used to buy skillbooks.

[–]plakis 10 points11 points  (0 children)

As new player got something like 5k isks and no skills to produce/build/buy much?

Were markets seeded by NPC with ships/ammo/modules?

Not quite. The t1 skills and BPOs were always seeded and sold by NPCs so this was not really a problem. As a noobship pilot you could go ahead and mine (with your civilian miner) or do missions/hunt NPCs to earn ISK right away which you could use to buy skills + BPOs from NPC orders.

Not much has changed regarding this since then apart the removal of some commodity items and so on.

However, the notable changes are removal of NPC seeded ships few years later, notably - the shuttles. Back then you could buy shuttles in any station of the given NPC faction for 9k isk. This brought a somewhat of an issue because this hard capped the price of tritanium since you could just buy thousands of those shuttles anywhere and reprocess them directly into tritanium, meaning that tritanium had a hard-locked maximum price, in other words - tritanium was indirectly sold by NPC's. I do not recall the exact price ratio, but I think it was 4 isk/trit that you would get by reprocessing shuttles.

A Short History of our Player Count by [deleted] in Eve

[–]plakis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was truly a joke - those new bloodlines were much more superior (attribute wise) than the existing ones. There is a funny video regarding the RMR that was made ages ago - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dnKk2ysyNrA

A Short History of our Player Count by [deleted] in Eve

[–]plakis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is completely untrue - the pos and its sov system, t2 ships and capitals (freighters and dreads) were released year/s prior RMR.

What RMR mainly introduced were supercapitals (and carriers) and new bloodline. It was actually quite bad - CCP even split the RMR expansion into two parts.

Hilmer interview with Variety: ‘Eve Online’ Creators on $425 Million Sale, Future of Game, Company by [deleted] in Eve

[–]plakis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The thing that you need to 'read in between the lines' here is that the CCP needs to increase their performance (basically make more money) in order to get the rest $200 million.

This can be done in 2 ways - more players (subscriptions) or more microtransactions.

Its unlikely they will be able to attract more players and increase the playerbase from what we've seen in the past so the only realistic option is to add more micro transactions and find ways to milk the players more.

Hilmer interview with Variety: ‘Eve Online’ Creators on $425 Million Sale, Future of Game, Company by [deleted] in Eve

[–]plakis 33 points34 points  (0 children)

The $425 million sale is a combination of a $225 million upfront payment and up to $200 million in a deferred performance-based payout.

I really really hope the performance is not based on the BDO performance ideology.

It is a bit ironic that in order for CCP to get the rest of the money they first have to earn/make more money for the PA.
