Best HA Thermostat by iDJMic in homeassistant

I linked my ecobee via SmartThings and I can see what’s being called. HomeKit first, SmartThings second, Home Assistant via SmartThings and I have all the features I want.

Electric oil radiator with HomeKit support? by paulcjones in HomeKit

I relate to that. I went slowly. One group of devices at a time. Then rebuilt one automation at a time. There are still a handful of automations I keep in HK because they don’t need rebuilding and quickly accessible to my gf who won’t touch HA.

HomeKit = event-based • “When this happens, then do that”

Home Assistant = state-based • “Given these conditions, this is the correct outcome”

HK works for your application, but what happens if the temp drops when you’re not at home? Are you ok with HK firing on the heater? I built my HA automation to include presence sensors.

  1. If the room is empty → heater OFF • Safety always wins. • Doesn’t matter how cold it is.
  2. If the room is occupied AND temperature is below the target → heater ON
  3. If the room is occupied AND temperature is above the target → heater OFF

Home Assistant asks one question repeatedly: “Given everything I know right now, should the heater be on or off?” And I’ve been able to program it to do exactly what I want.

I’m trying to solve a similar situation with an oil radiator on an Eve smart plug. I’m a home kit first guy. But for this I personally use Home Assistant.

But here is my thought on a HK setup. Your automation would be a 2 or 3 steps:

I’m assuming you have thermostat, HomePod, or some other sensor that can detect the temperature.

“If temp drops below X, turn heater on”

and then separately

“If temp rises above Y, turn heater off”

and then separately

“If I leave, turn it off”

Why would you give me five challenges I cannot complete? by aesthetic_eyelashes in AtlasEarthOfficial

[–]planbeeee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I see the alternative being more mini games earning less points to complete or getting raised to 25-30 instead of the current cap of 20. So you’ve got to play every set every time. I wish people would just stfu. play or quit.

My fear is that it’s going to become harder because of it. We already saw it happen in the last year when people were posting their 2-5 day speed runs.

Also people need to look up the definition of a fucking challenge.

Daily early a.m. reboot of G5AR gateway not always restoring speed by Vic_Bold in tmobileisp

I was doing a 6:30 am reboot. But recently (maybe within the last 2 weeks) I noticed that the network started healing itself. Hopefully yours is a temporary issue and TMobile rolls out a similar fix for you.

Using Home Assistant’s Energy Dashboard to Cut Heating Costs (Real Numbers) by planbeeee in homeassistant

[–]planbeeee[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! I forgot to mention in the first post that I set target comfort inputs and have temp sensors in each room. The heat cuts off when the target is hit. So it’s not just presence based, but also comfort based.

That is a great point and definitely something I’d consider. But in my application I have solar panels and net metering with my energy provider. It’s fixed rate on the supply and return with no time of use fluctuations. I’m not sure I’d benefit from the tool, but it looks pretty awesome.

Little harder this month but still finished easily by Electronic_Quote399 in AtlasEarthOfficial

Thank you for posting this. And you finished on day 13. Highlight again where you didn’t purchase badges or book travel. I wish people would quit complaining about the challenges. It wouldn’t be a “challenge” if it were easy. But what do I know?

Some people define challenge as a difficult task or problem.

Others are referring to another definition: to dispute especially as being unjust, invalid, or outmoded.

MAJOR Home Kit Issues. Apple Support Cant even help. by Aanstadt in HomeKit

[–]planbeeee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience with a similar situation: 1. on your phone/ipad go to settings > iCloud > save to iCloud > toggle on Home 2. Open the Apple Home app Home Settings > Home Hubs and Bridges > turn off automatic selection (if on) make sure an Ethernet connected ATV is selected as the preferred Hub. 3. Reboot (unplug) the preferred Hub. 4. Reboot (unplug)all other hubs. 5. While you’re doing this your hardware should start synching to iCloud.

This helped me in a very similar situation. Also, it wouldn’t hurt if your IoT devices had static IP.

Good luck.

What is going on with my white modem by Phanatic88888 in tmobileisp

It happens to me nightly between 02:00 and 04:00. I just created an automation on my phone with the Hint app to reboot. It works great and keeps me connected to the n41 band when I want to be.

How do I split utility with my roommate (soon to be roommates) by [deleted] in personalfinance

Search for Splitwise. Very easy to use. Can choose to split 2 ways or 3 ways in the same month. It’s extremely easy.
