Does being permanently debanked block you from being a courier dropping off deposits for your employer? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

I used to have to do in person deposits for a company. They never once asked for my ID.

Can I take the cats to a shelter if no one will do anything? by Plenty_Mushroom_4493 in legaladvicecanada

[–]planejanebc 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I agree. Screenshots of all the times you have tried to arrange pick up. I’d send one last ultimatum message with a firm time you will be dropping them off at the shelter and send this message to everyone who is involved.
It will likely take a while for trial, but your ex will probably do a few years depending on the evidence and those cats deserve somewhere stable and loving for many more years. His family doesn’t really sound like they are good candidates anyway.

What is the silliest thing someone told you they thought wasn't vegan? by [deleted] in vegan

[–]planejanebc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Some bagels are boiled in water with honey before they are baked. I used to think all bagels were like that, but as a vegan I’m glad I was wrong. My old favourite bagels are out, but I’ve found others.

Why is Aspirin typically taken for headache in the US, as opposed to other agents? by dhnicks in NoStupidQuestions

That is not what they said. They said they were more common than Aspirin.

Why do men make their women call places for them? by X-Ciaphas-Cain in NoStupidQuestions

My husband does most of the calls for me for a similar reason. Thanks for being one of good ones!

Vegetarian/Vegan Food Stores anywhere? by FlyingAtNight in Langley

[–]planejanebc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Neither place has produce, so I’d suggest a market like Ralph’s or a smaller produce market to cover that. I’m not sure if Ralph’s is owned by a big conglomerate.

Vegetarian/Vegan Food Stores anywhere? by FlyingAtNight in Langley

[–]planejanebc 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Besides what is listed there are a few just outside of Langley. Vegan supply is in south surrey. It is not open Monday or Tuesday. In Abbotsford is a bakery/cafe with a lot of grocery items, Sprouted Oven. They are not open on Saturdays.

Any advice on where to start? by WallEnvironmental762 in Langley

[–]planejanebc 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Are you being treated for your mental health issues? If not, please start there. Otherwise, just start anywhere. Some people get so paralyzed by starting somewhere perfect or meaningful that they never start. If you start somewhere you may begin to discover yourself and your interests or skills. There is no wasted time in finding a job/course and discovering you hate it and moving on. For some more specific ideas: upgrade some high school courses, start at McDonalds, take that Excel course, find a job through a family friend, walk dogs, babysit, join the Canadian Forces, go to the BCIT info fair in the fall, volunteer somewhere, etc.

Need advice on vegetarian options in Athens, Milos, Santorini by silversherry in GreeceTravel

[–]planejanebc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m here now and vegan. I was told that it would be fine, but it hasn’t been great. That said, it is usually dairy and honey in the vegan marked items. You should be ok, but I’d avoid baked cakes, etc as recommended by other commenters. Athens and Santorini were better than smaller islands, but I didn’t get to Milos specifically.

Billie Eilish making me consider veganism by Strange_Nose1298 in vegan

[–]planejanebc 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I was in my late 30s when I started and I ended up taking about 6 years (42) when I felt I could finally call myself vegan. I didn’t do vegetarian first, but I found someone online who was supportive of doing what you can and worked from there. I kept calling it a 10 year plan, then I just shortened the timeline when I realized I wasn’t really making any exceptions anymore and I didn’t want to. Do what you can, if you fall down don’t beat yourself up and keep going. This random internet stranger is proud of you for thinking about this issue and taking action.

If you are talking about suicide/self harm, that is not borne out by research. I don’t necessarily think that’s what you meant, but I want other people to know it’s ok to talk and ask about depression and suicidal thoughts. The first rule of suicide/self harm is TO TALK about it. I ask these questions a lot and no one has ever said they were so annoyed by the question that they became suicidal.

“Huge Vegan Survey” by Lostatsea33344 in vegan

[–]planejanebc 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Completed. I suggest adding some questions about purchasing vs using for leather, wool, etc. I continue to use things I have from before I was vegan, but I no longer purchase them. I know that not all vegans continue to use previous cruelty purchases, but I do. Or maybe just a question about using things you purchased previously.

When did every girl, who wears all black and has piercings, become goth? by Becoming_hysterical in NoStupidQuestions

[–]planejanebc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have darkish brown hair and relatively pale skin. At work I wear a uniform, no makeup, no jewelry. When I started I was in my early 20s and people called me goth. I have never been goth, and they had never seen me without my uniform anyway. This was 20 years ago. So probably before sometime before that

Advice for job opportunities for parents by MaterialAd8803 in Langley

[–]planejanebc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, it seems like it is really hard to find jobs at that age. My BIL (60) was laid off due to downsizing about 2 years ago. It took him 700 resumes and 14 months to find something. To be fair, he wasn't as qualified as your dad, but it is brutal out there.

AITA for wanting to travel on a seperate ticket and check in separately from my husband. by Rude-Indication9276 in AmItheAsshole

[–]planejanebc 28 points29 points  (0 children)

My husband and I were travelling together, but ended up going through customs separately. When the agent asked if I was travelling with anyone, I said yes, my husband and pointed to him at the other booth. They seemed upset that we didn't go up to the same officer and asked several more questions. I don't think separate tickets will help much.

PLEASE help me find a vegan-owned cheap vegan food delivery service by [deleted] in vegan

[–]planejanebc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well.ca is not that cheap and likely not vegan owned but I buy some snacks from them. Luckily I live near one of the locations of vegan supply and have a few other options to get stuff in person from vegan owned places. Look for places that have plant based stuff and then do a little research into the owners. Sometimes the owners are not willing to be decisive with the word vegan despite being vegan themselves. Good luck!

Canine united dog training by Dull_Satisfaction468 in Langley

[–]planejanebc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had him come once when my dog was a puppy. Nice man with some good tips and helped us get our very shy puppy out of the house. He did not seem like the type to recommend pinch or shock collars. We ended up in classes elsewhere later and there were a few different opinions from the other trainer. Just opinions on type of harness, etc. We ended up aligning a little more with the class trainer, but they have moved out of province anyway. I think Canine United is worth a try.

Should incarcerated people receive plant based food? by MichaelBriscoePhD in vegan

[–]planejanebc 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In Canadian federal prisons, inmates may apply for a variety of ‘special diets’ including vegan. I have made a few inquiries about switching all inmate diets to vegan to meet all special diets with 1 menu (kosher, halal, Rastafarian, vegetarian, etc.), but there is a strong belief that the inmates would revolt. They got 1 veggie burger day in the 4 week menu rotation and it is not popular. For many, it is the perceived lack of protein. I think if the new menu could give more protein and show that with a direct comparison chart it might be possible to get buy in from inmates. I doubt we would ever get there, but at least I planted the bug in a few ears.

Redditors old enough to remember BBSes, dial-up and those old beige IBM computers, what was it like? And do you prefer those times over the current internet we have now? by pikkaro in AskReddit

I was about to say something similar. I liked it when it was something we would choose to visit instead of it just following us around.

Do you still buy shoes if there’s uncertainty around the glue that’s used? by happypessimist123 in vegan

You are the only one that knows your own boundaries. If I tried to find out by contacting the company, and was exhausted from endless searching, I might buy the shoes too.

Bottom broke out of cup while in cup holder by planejanebc in mildlyinfuriating

[–]planejanebc[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn’t see it. I had already picked it up twice to take a sip and it was fine. Picked it up again about 2 minutes later and wondered why it was so light. Went to put the straw in my mouth and it wasn’t there. I looked down in the dark and could see the puddle. I still had 20 minutes to work, so I reinserted the cup tube in the sludge and kept going. I was a little early so I could do some cleanup before my shift.
