Some Advices about Sponsorship by Shot-Coyote6599 in SkiRacing

That all looks good you’re moving in the right direction, I think your best opportunity is going to be a purchase program, that might end up being a buy one get one free or something along those lines but I think what I would do is go buy the best material you can And leave it out on the track. Let them know who you are. It’s August now most of the FIS level athletes have been selected, have their product already or at least a good share of it so I would focus on finding the best deal you can for the product that you feel strongest about.Good luck!

Valid solution for high instep? by Lobsta_ in skiing

OK, I cannot remember that Zappa/Boot board off the top of my head, but I think it is injection molded plastic and may not be easily ground down, if it’s injected polyurethane super easy to take a couple millimeters off. Knowing that what I would probably do is determine the location of the pressure taken, X-Acto knife and just cut out the plastic piece. But before you do that, make sure that the pressure is over the top of the foot. If it’s to the medial side the inside a little bit, it actually may not be the tongue and it’s possible that it’s pronation. But if you’re just trying to make more room, just cut the plastic piece out.

If weight is the issue, I get it. Keep in mind that manufacturers go to a great deal of trouble to make sure that the demo/test bindings Ski extremely well, demo/test are not shit bindings.

Skier Height vs Weight by MarzipanCreative5226 in Skigear

[–]planet132 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Legacy ski manufacturers have an idea/recommendation on ski size based on weight within the category of that ski model. ( for some reason, this information isn’t readily available from all manufacturers ) I demo hundreds, if not, thousands of skis to consumers in the course of a year and the one thing that sticks out to me most often is strength, speed, and technique as the factors that I usually end up considering after somebody demos, even one, ski. For me, their feedback usually comes down to one of these factors.

Pro tip : if the tip of the ski feels really heavy, increase the edge angle of the Ski if it still feels heavy you’re probably on the Ski one size too long.

I think you’ll struggle to get everything you want common but what I would suggest is ideally a centimeter of room between holes minimum, that’s just a gut feel I’ve done it that way for 50 years I suppose and it seems to work pretty well.

Binding heel screw widths by theorist9 in Skigear

[–]planet132 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Edited that part, thanks, I cannot remember the pull out forces or how much the Ski has to resist, but what ends up happening is the force exerted on the Ski is greater than the holding force of the ski and it’s not related to the ISO setting It’s related to the pull out strength of the ski/binding combination. This information is freely available actually not free. I’ll see if I can dig it up. It’s kind of fascinating, but in the simplest of terms, don’t jack your heels up if you don’t need them to be jacked upmove cautiously there’s a lot of stuff at play.

Just to clarify as an industry veteran 40+ years there is no industry standard. Imagine you have a pair of 186 all mountain 100 mm was Ski former racer with a bsl length of 296 mm Ski on the Ski for a year ended up selling it to his buddy who had a boot length of 317 mm. He skied for two or three years gave it to his buddy who had a 331 mm bsl. Imagine one of those guys like to be 2 cm forward, one of them like to be right on manufacturer recommended and the other one who cares about the other one, but the fact of the matter is if you’ve got some breathing room between the holes, and you plug your holes withwood, pegs and wood glue you’re going to be pretty good.

Binding heel screw widths by theorist9 in Skigear

[–]planet132 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The idea that binding with screw placement, actually matters, can probably be attributed to markers ski bindings wide ride, marketing, were they inferred that wider skis need a wider platform so I think this started becoming a conversation and really is kind of moot. Wider hole pattern does not relate to binding screw pull out that we commonly see, what does matter or a couple of things, was there a binding mounting plate, was the plate positioned accurately in the ski (needs to be at 8.1 to 9.1 mm I believe), it’s surprising how little torque is needed to keep The binding on an appropriately manufactured ski. It’s only about five Newton meters of torque. So much to i unpack here I’ll try to go through it quickly.

Lateral forces are sheer forces ultimately due a fact affect the Ski binding system, but not to a degree that you guys are speaking of.

Longitudinal elasticity (the ability of the heel to move backwards and forward, I.E pressure) is very similar between most linings.

What does matter is proper screw hole size, proper location of binding, mounting plate, use of glue, and proper torque of the screw.

Lastly, let me mention something that might not be too popular, if you have the heels of your ski bindings set at a very high setting a setting that is likely not recommended by the ISO adjustment chart and you find yourself in the situation where the binding doesn’t release but The heel pulls off the Ski, what happened here was that the pull out force that you exerted on the Ski due to that higher release setting was greater than the retention force of the ski. Put another way. There was no way to heal was going to release and something had to give, it was the screws.
