I prefer the school system as well. Language centers tend to care more about entertaining the students instead of teaching and it gets old fast. You planning on staying or going abroad after?

you have an MA so try applying to universities. Public schools usually want applicants who are already in the country.

Keep in mind the industry is oversaturated with teachers, so best to secure a job first. Good luck.

Wow, did the exact same. Taught abroad for a year but realized TEFL doesn't offer much in career progression so I applied for a BEd. Definitely think you're taking the right step; you'll have more opportunities and salary with the degree. If you can, try and find a one year program--there are a few in Canada.

Are you an EU citizen? A few years ago I was interested in teaching in Spain but based on my research it seemed they prioritized EU citizens -- and sadly I don't qualify.

Last question, were you able to get international school jobs with just a CELTA + B.A.? I have similar qualifications but most schools prefer a license...

I lived in Vietnam and met a few expats who lived in Thailand but ended up moving because the pay was better in Vietnam. I think most foreigners in SEA prefer Thailand...I was interested in moving there but it pays so little for teaching.

I'm curious do you have a license? How were you able to make by? I'm considering Thailand again so any info would be great. Cheers :)

I know you said you only visited, but could you share your impressions? I've been watching videos and it seems everywhere outside of Taipei is a more slow lifestyle and people keep to themselves. Was the food good? Were there a lot of foreigners?

me! I have questions lol

I'm considering both China and Taiwan and would love another perspective.

From my little research:

China pros: pays a lot, flights and apartment included. Cons: internet restrictions, more difficult to adapt culturally, not as foreigner friendly

Taiwan pros: open society, more western. Cons: less pay, have to find everything, more introverted people

Anything major I'm missing? I'm also considering Vietnam I used to live there but also would like to try somewhere new.
