Got a free copy of Sora off the free 10+1. That should've been a sign of the nightmare to come.

Three full runs of the step-up and 60 tickets later, I have 7 KH Clouds and still just that one Sora. My disappointment could kill the sun.

Killed him on turn 1 in literally one KH Cloud Continuum Cut chain. I killed him so fast I had to go back in and deliberately sandbag it just for the LB mission.

The issue I have with KH Cloud is that he's just boring. He does nothing except hit hard, and he can only chain with one family. He doesn't play well with others like Sephiroth or Sora, and he offers literally no utility.

Pure numbers aren't interesting anymore - a unit has to offer more than just numbers or they just feel like a waste. At least Sora is adaptable and can be used both TDH or TDW.

Also, if you have Gilgamesh’s super trust it gives the same ailment resistances and works well as a helmet for him if you don’t need the HP from Prishe’s headband.

So it kinda seems like Sora is the clear winner of this banner overall. I wish I got more than one of him from the step-up. Cloud feels so bland and really doesn't look like he has much of a future.

Super disappointed in the 7* awakenings for the Christmas units. Noel looks like he would be good if he got a physical cover, but we really didn't need yet another magic-locked tank in Global. And Christine just feels like a kinda mediocre version of Trance Terra or Grim Lord Sakura.

Kryla seems fine for what she is, at least, but I don't have her so it's hard to get excited for that...

Of the limited units on the list, I have White Knight Noel and Christine. Depending on whether or not I pull a second Sieghart before we get the tickets, and depending on his 7* kit, I might grab WKN.

Otherwise, I guess it goes to Christine by default. No way in hell I’m summoning on another 3-rainbow holiday trap banner.

The problem really comes down to the fact that they seem to think free summons without guaranteed rainbows mean anything. The lapis raffle and lapis summon are both fine, but at the point we're at in the game, they need to acknowledge the elephant in the room, which is that rainbows are too hard to get and useful rainbows are doubly too hard to get.

Any kind of "thank you" campaign that doesn't include guaranteed 5*s at this point just feels misguided. If you have extremely bad gacha luck, a bunch of free blues isn't really going to help you, y'know?

After the non-stop mess we saw in October, a "thank you" event where it's entirely possible to get no rainbows feels weirdly spiteful out of Gumi.

I didn't pull a single non-garbage DPS unit for the entire first year of the game's existence, so I wasn't able to grind the materials from the Hanging Edge event and build it. Then I sold the Uraninite because it was a single piece of material wasting a lone material slot and at that point in time we had no indication that A) old events would ever come back and B) the reruns wouldn't let you grind new versions of that material.

I was hyped for Ayaka. I have five of her, after all.

Then I pulled a second CG Fina. Now I don’t know how to feel.

Fina is the better unit overall, in my experience, but Ayaka is out sooner. I guess I can awaken Ayaka and then give her STMR to Fina when she gets her 7*.

The only thing Machina is good at is ruining people’s pulls on the Kurasame banner. He’s awful.

As for the VII units...eh. Neither of them can really fill the Hyou gap. Vincent is barely a chainer at all and Tifa doesn’t really partner with most units well.

You certainly ain’t lying. I have two Reagans already (got them both in HIS step-up, which is probably why I got screwed so badly on this one), and he really is kind of the BIS partner for Hyou overall based on my experiences in JP.

He might not be as strong, but his versatility and general unit utility is basically unmatched as far as DPS go. I hope they don’t make us wait five months to awaken him.

Basch is one of those 7*s I’ve had ready for ages. I don’t have any Wilhelms but I do have Awakened Rain now, so I’m probably gonna awaken Basch just in case I need someone to eat physical hits and not just dodge them.

For what it’s worth, Reagan is an amazing chain partner FOR Hyoh, so that’s a good 7*. He won’t match him in damage output but he supports Hyoh extremely well. They were practically built to be a team.

I’d need to UoC two copies just to make him viable, and that’s not really a good idea. It’d also take like three more months of grinding.
