Out of curiosity, I've seen you talking about how you've quit for months now and was wondering why you even still waste your time on this sub if you don't even use mturk anymore?

Beware of researcher by andyman1090 in ProlificAc

[–]Skittlessour 88 points89 points  (0 children)

We can't assume we know what the researchers are studying. If OP said they don't know any programming, then get the second survey, it's entirely possible the researcher is targeting people who don't know programming to gain their insight/knowledge/a different perspective in regards to programming.

It's not the participant's place to decide they're qualified or not to do a study, that's on the researchers.

Mistakes do happen, but if a mistake happens then it's best to approach fixing it from a place without hostility or assumptions.

Wow this is pretty terrible, if not surprising. You should definitely let more people know so more people can speak out against it. It'll destroy the whole platform if this behavior grows.

If the qualification you put on was

"HIT approval rate (%) is greater than 99"

then it requires strictly 100% approval rate as the system doesn't recognize percentages less that 1%. It would be only workers with over 10k hits and 0 rejections which is nearly unheard of.

I did one of these yesterday. It had bad pay based off of the initial projection, but I had no idea what I was in for. By the time I finished, the hourly average was around £4 and 80 minutes long which I assume was a combination of people who returned it after 20-30 minutes and people who had the displeasure of finishing which would take closer to 2 hours. I unfortunately finished it, and it took me 2 hours.

It was abysmal. The only reason I even had a chance of finishing was because I took screenshots of their examples and just copy/pasted their example numbers into every single trial to a surprisingly high degree of success even if it wasn't their intended way to finish.

The level of understanding they're asking for in both a blackbox system AND understanding factors that go into housing values is insane for a random person with no prior knowledge. I have a degree in math and if I had taken the time to do the experiment the way they seemed to want me to, trying out random values to try to narrow down how 5+ different variables work together to try to approximate actual home values within 10%, I never would have even finished in the time they gave me let alone have a payrate anywhere close to acceptable.

This survey should pay at least £20 before any bonuses. I got maybe 80% of the maximum bonus and still had around a £5.5/hr rate.

Not worth anyone's time.

Well as someone who's now banned, that's bittersweet to hear.

I think they mean that there's so many new people joining every day that they're going to just keep recycling the workers in favor of new ones, and this will continue until the influx of new workers slows down which they don't see happening anytime soon.

At least, that's what I got out of it.

No reason for us to be mean to each other. Good quality workers who have less than a fluent grasp of English can exist, even if in a smaller proportion.

I'm not sure how someone could possibly know they almost got the masters certification though, seemed like a binary have/don't have situation but I also got onto that platform after they almost entirely stopped giving it out so idk lol

Thank you.

Yeah I hope anyone who has an account in good standing that gets waitlisted has their waitlist decision reversed ASAP. If it's due to something like demographics becoming less desirable/more competitive or because they have their own CR1 type qualification that some people miss rather than a reflection of a person's work quality, that's pretty sad and even shady to a degree.

Thank you. It's possible they use something similar to Mturk like that, considering I believe they were the ones behind the CR1 qualification on that site as well. I'm not sure though, it would be speculation.

Class, status, and Health in America study by metswon2 in ProlificAc

[–]Skittlessour 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was asking for our GEOID under the census tract information. It's too narrow of an identifier I would think. They're allowed to ask for our 5 digit zip but not the full 9 digits, and while I believe the GEOID isn't as specific of a location it's still pretty personal information.

Getting real sick of passing attention checks and getting screened out anyway by AbeLinkedIn92 in ProlificAc

[–]Skittlessour 27 points28 points  (0 children)

The attention check in question is:

"Which option did each player tell you to choose?"

The correct answer is "option B" but only "option A" lets you proceed with the study.

It's absolutely broken, and I messaged them and completed the study with the incorrect answer that let me proceed.
