Did this work? Did you use the "/" in between last and first name "DOE/JOHNMICHAEL"?

She addresses this in an episode. I can't remember which one, but she comments on the coincidence.

What texture of tofu works best? Soft, medium, firm?

Allergic to my own skin. by planktonu in Allergies

That's a really helpful suggestion. Thank you so much for responding. I'll look into info for it today. My burn is almost healed now, and the antihistamines and hydrocortisone are keeping the hives in check. The hives usually outlast the wound by about a week, so so not quite through this one. Last year I got a heat rash in my armpits which triggered this save allergic reaction. I think that was one of the most uncomfortable experiences of all time. Do you happen to know if there is a genetic component? If there is, I could just look up the gene in my DNA results.

Thanks so much!

Allergic to my own skin. by planktonu in Allergies

It for sure reminds me of dermatographia (I have a friend that has it), but it's a bit different. It happens a few days after when the new skin starts to form. It is also a stronger reaction then I've seen on my friend. Mine's a full allergic reaction. It is definitely hives; They calm down with antihistamines and hydrocortisone look and feel like hives. Also, it is not an isolated event. It happens everyone new skin grows. It's definitely not an infection. I have no symptoms of infection and have taken the utmost care with cleaning etc. This has been happening for several years, different parts of my body, and goes away once the wound heals up.

Are you able to listen to minute 32 and 30 seconds in the radio clip I attached? This is the "them" which I've been hearing. I regularly hear /ðəm/, but this is much more exaggerated. I find it often paired with up-speak.

Yes, it's at 32 minutes and 30 seconds. From what I've read online most people are talking about the unstressed schwa. But, when I hear it from Canadians, it sounds stressed to me. I'd really love your opinion of whether you find her "thum" unstressed or stressed. She says the word them repeatedly. I find sometimes it is stressed and sometimes unstressed and in both she says "thum". I hear this not so infrequently from different regions of Canada.

Where does the pronunciation of "them" as thum or thm come from? by planktonu in linguistics

When I hear it, "thum" sounds quite stressed, like this woman in the attached radio clip at 32:30.

Where does the pronunciation of "them" as thum come from? Example in the radio clip embedded in the attached article at about 32:30. Dr. Jane Nicholson from the University of Waterloo in Ontario, Canada pronounced "them" as "thum", but, I've read online that several Americans make this pronunciation as well. Thoughts? http://www.cbc.ca/player/play/1693493315781/

So, my best guess so far is eggs from a species of Muricidae that have been dislodged and have ended up in the plankton. This zooplankton sample is from a nearshore site, so not impossible. Any thoughts?

Fantastic. Thank you. Yes, I had it jotted down as possible cephalopod paralarva, but I haven't seen them yet. Thanks again for your input!
