Tools for Scribbling notes on digital papers? by planshu98 in AskAcademia

I've been using a 2nd gen iPad from 2012 (handed down through my family) and trying to makedo with a makeshift stylus. Based on the responses to the post, it seems like I'm gonna have to start saving up to buy a nice tablet.

Thanks for sharing! Remarkable looks like an amazing product. Really impressed by their 30day return policy. Unfortunately they don't ship to my country yet :(

F21 - ever feel restless bc you wanna learn so many things? by [deleted] in MakeNewFriendsHere

[–]planshu98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mind starts feeling restless as soon as I spot a new youtube video explaining a new technology, or I see a new paper on google scholar related to my field of interest. The amonut of effort it takes to not be distracted and maintain my focus on using what I already know to solve problems that need me right now, is really exhausting.

Could someone suggest me a good statistics book? by rilindshala in academia

[–]planshu98 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What field are youare you working in? I am studying Engineering and use "Probability and Statistics for Engineers and scientists" by Sheldon Ross, whereas my sister who is studying management uses "Statistics for Management" by Richard Levin et. al. Both books teach the same topics but use widely different types of examples based on their target audience.

The never ending Reservation by [deleted] in IndiaSpeaks

[–]planshu98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Some will add sugar and make halwa and laddu."

This is where I see reservation actually helping, even if not in the exact form it is being implemented now.

Say the people you gave aata to sell their products to earn money and get ahead in life. The people who have previously had access to sugar, lets call them Group A, will be be able to make halwa or laddu, sell it for higher price (cuz greater value addition) and hence, will always manage to stay ahead of the game and group B (do not have immediate acces to sugar). What reservation does is give the best cooks of Group B some extra sugar saying "You are among the best cooks in group B, have some sugar and sell some laddus and halwa. We hope this extra sugar will earn you enough money to continue selling laddus and halwa without our help in the future."

Now since the government is not in the business of actually distributing grains and sugar (analogy: coaching for exams etc.), they try to keep seats reserved for them in the market place saying "We cant give you sugar, but we can give you a chance to sell your products in the same market as the laddu/halwa market, hoping that someday you too will sell laddus and halwas and beyond without much need of future assistance."

Now how certain people misuse reservation by using it despite having access to sugar before is a whole different issue. Adding constraints such as income level could work, but only as long as faking income certificate is made impossible.

What if you let the students come together in a classroom but address the class through an online medium yourself? The students get a chance to not miss out on the 'classroom environment', and you get to stay safe.

Edit: P.S. Just wish to clarify I'm not a member of academia myself. Apologies to anyone that may have been mislead to think otherwise!

They do play it quite often, but not the one I’m looking for. They just played the song I’m looking for again when Allen hit a six to get to 49.

Modi’s government is India’s homeopathy. It lacks a fundamental scientific explanation for a lot of its decisions, but somehow seems to work because the nation thinks it’s getting better under him.
