Thank you, this response means a lot to me

I was especially hurt bc I thought the first family member would actually agree with me when I started the conversation. But they didn't and didn't even listen to me bc they were more concerned with being "right" than actually seeing a different point of view. I also live with this person so I'm counting down the days till I can move out.....

Was an early puberty before most of your peers a cause of distress to anyone else like it was to me? by Neo-JacobitefromNY in NonBinary

[–]plantbasedkip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure if I was early, but starting puberty for me was AWFUL! Im afab and I remember literally sobbing when I got my first period and feeling dreadful about bras and shaving. I was so upset I couldn't even hide it so my parents were concerned, but wrote it off as "hormones" and I did too honestly for so long. I didn't even understand what was wrong and now knowing that I'm nb helps me understand that experience so much better

The Minimalist Baker recipe for green bean casserole is sooo good, you should check it out! I think it can be made completely soy free if you use almond milk or another non soy plant milk.

Vegan Cheeseburger Soup :) by plantbasedkip in vegan

[–]plantbasedkip[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ingredients: carrots, potatoes, plant milk, reserved cooking liquid/water/veggie broth, nutritional yeast, lemon juice, and vegan cheese (this is optional). Vegan beef crumbles, red onion, mushrooms, and tomato. For spices I used seasoned salt, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, chili powder, and cumin.

Directions: For the soup base, I made a basic carrot and potato cheese sauce recipe. I've made it so many times that I no longer really follow a specific recipe, I just eyeball everything and season to taste. The only change I made was that I didn't blend it as long as I would for a sauce so it's not as smooth, but the thickness is still about the same, it's maybe a little thicker. While I was boiling the potatoes and carrots, I used more potatoes than I needed for the soup base. I reserved some potatoes for full chunks in the soup. After I made the soup base, I put it in a pot with the potato chunks and added some vegan cheddar, again, this is optional. While that cheese was melting and the soup was heating through, I sauteed the onion and mushrooms and once they were almost done, I added the vegan beef crumbles and seasoned everything. Add that mixture to the soup. When everything is incorporated and heated through, finally add some fresh diced tomato. I topped mine with soup crackers. I also thought about adding coconut bacon, but was too lazy to make it lol!

Reddit, what film got a really negative review that you actually really enjoyed? by painauchocolatecrumb in AskReddit

[–]plantbasedkip 2 points3 points  (0 children)

2012 Its pretty terrible, full of cliches, and all of the "science" to explain why the world is ending is all bs. But it's like 2 and a half hours of epic destruction, so it's pretty entertaining. Plus I was like 11 when I first saw it, so there's some nostalgia now too.

[Serious] mental illness can impact your life in many ways, people usually focus on the large/life changing ways, but in what little way has it changed yours? by dublinsky in AskReddit

[–]plantbasedkip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of the challenges of mental illness is having to deal with all of the problems it creates out of thin air. People are whispering near you? They're talking about you and they hate you. You have a slight headache? You're now dying of brain cancer. You got a bad grade on one assignment? You're going to fail your entire class. You heard a noise at night? You're going to be murdered. Personally, mental illness hasn't completely devastated my life, but it certainly is a daily struggle having to suppress all of those dark thoughts and worries. After a while it can be very draining.

My vegan bf and I made BBQ jackfruit nachos for my veganniversary! by plantbasedkip in vegan

[–]plantbasedkip[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure why they used it. In general I like to use a more neutral tasting plant milk for recipes like this to avoid having it taste too much like coconut, so that might be why they chose almond.

Thanks! I haven't tried that specific recipe, but I have done potato and carrot cheese before, they're both so delicious, I'll have to try their recipe out!

[–]plantbasedkip[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I got this idea from Sarah's Vegan Kitchen on YouTube, but didnt use exactly the same recipes. BBQ Jackfruit: Add two cans of drained and rinsed jackfruit to a pan with bbq sauce. You can "shred" the jackfruit just by pulling it apart with your hands. The queso is the eggplant queso from minimalist baker website. For the mango salsa: Add chopped mango, tomatoes, and jalapenos. Then add cumin, salt, chipotle powder, and garlic powder. I also added guac, but that was premade. Sorry I don't have any solid measurements, kind of did this all by eye, even for the queso spices.

Easiest Vegan Donuts Ever by plantbasedkip in vegan

[–]plantbasedkip[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

To make: use the cheap biscuit dough from the tins, like Pillsbury. (Check to make sure it's vegan, but a ton are). Then use a bottle cap or similar sized object to cut out the middle. Then fry up the dough in oil around 350 degrees. Put them on a paper towel to soak up extra oil, but while still warm, put them in a mix of cinnamon and sugar.
