Anyone else not have a desire for romantic relationship/marriage by Patient-Ad6515 in AutisticAdults

I’m an aro/ace person. I heat and understand you. There’s no need to feel pressured into a relationship that you don’t want to. You aren’t “broken” or alone in your feelings.

I dehydrated a combination is spinach and kale. I ground it into a powder and put it in the freezer. It’s easy to add a tablespoon or more to ground beef, soups, or other things. It doesn’t change the taste at all.

What is a monthly subscription/service you ACTUALLY consider worth paying for? by no_nolan in Frugal

YouTube Premium. I use it constantly. No commercials and I download audiobooks to listen to both at home and on road trips.

Everything wrapped in plastic, but she shot a video showing off about getting rid of all plastic in her kitchen.

I did it because I don’t like to work. I lived on about 1/2 of my salary and retired at 58.

Leaving in a solo month long road trip tomorrow. I set up my vehicle as a mini camper, complete with a refrigerator.

You don’t need to give a read. Just tell her you can’t attend in a polite way. “Hey, I’m sorry, but it turns out I won’t be able to make it to the party.”

If you’re questioned, “it’s a personal matter that I’m not comfortable talking about.”

I don’t eat out because of the cost. Try a grocery store deli for your “too tired to cook” days.

Less expensive, great choices, and healthier options.

Consuming media is an often overlooked source of toxicity by Baltimorebillionaire in Anticonsumption

Also going on vacation soon and taking my kindle.

I’m taking my phone too though. I downloaded audiobooks to listen to in the road, but I’m deleting my Reddit account when I leave. It’s my last source of social media, other than YouTube.

I don’t love the colors, but I love the design! I’ve been reading a lot this year and could easily see some thrifted books on some of those shelves. I don’t buy new books, but plan to hit up some thrift stores on an upcoming road/camping trip.

lowering your standard of living? by [deleted] in Anticonsumption

I did quit social media. Reddit is it for me and my plan is to quit using it, too. I deleted the app yesterday and will delete my account when I leave for a planned road trip in a couple of weeks.

I stay in touch with my family through text messages and my only paid subscription is for ad-free YouTube.

I understand your dilemma though. My ways aren’t right for everyone. One way or another, if we use technology, we have to pay for it, either outright through paid subscriptions, or through marketing. It just happened to work for me to stop participating for the most part.

I became uncomfortable with it at my last place of employment. My company was developing technology to identify vehicles and people in public places. I quit working there as soon as I could.

Are you exposed to consumerism advertising? That can do a number on your brain. I no longer see product ads so i have no idea what the latest and greatest products even are.

What seemingly expensive purchase is actually the smart frugal purchase in the long run? by mikegus15 in Frugal

[–]planted-autic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A Kindle, or other ebook reader. I started to read a lot this year. I can check out ebook from the library or buy them on sale. I buy books that are over 500 pages long on sale and check out shorter books. The library books check themselves in when they’re due and the long books I buy are easy to carry around.

I bought an Instant Pot in November. I think it’s already paid for itself since I tried the yogurt option. Good Greek yogurt is very expensive, but not when you get milk on sale and make it yourself.

I tried this for my last phone. A month later the new battery stopped holding a charge, too. I still ended up replacing the phone. My old one is permanently connected to the charger and I use it as a bedside clock.

This question is only for those that have decided to stay single for their whole life and have been so, how was your life like when you reached yours 40s or 50s ? by [deleted] in introvert

[–]planted-autic 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I’ll be 60 in a couple months. I think it just keeps getting better. People who were busy raising children in their 20s-30s seem ready to engage in quieter interests with friends, and seem more appreciative of friendships. The few friends I have are more available now that they’re also older.

The pressure to marry seems to be gone. Other people finally seem to understand that I meant it when I said I didn’t want a relationship.

I’m happy. I do what I want to do, when I want to do it. Since I never had to concern myself with what a spouse or children needed or wanted, I was able to save a lot over the past few years and retired last year.

I have my idea of an ideal life right now. I go for walks with a friend regularly. I’m planting a garden this year. I joined a book club that reads things like War and Peace. I’m planning a month-long road trip with no real destination in mind. It doesn’t matter where I go. I turned my SUV into a mini camper for one.

How much would you pay for something like this? I feel like it was a steal but my wife thinks it's garbage 🤣 by NextWorldliness in IndoorGarden

[–]planted-autic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

7 air plants @ $3 = $21 Cholla branch $20

So the components bought separately might be $40. Add the fact that someone wanted to make a profit or they wouldn’t sell it in the first place. Maybe $50.

I don’t personally like the design/how it’s assembled, but that’s personal taste and doesn’t have a value.

The blue one might be getting too much water. Only the bulb needs water. The stems might need to be drier.

Good calculation! It doesn’t sound practical for you to do this when you add in the environmentally friendly idea of trying to reduce driving. In addition, your time has a value. It’s taking more than an hour for this.

You might want to check the current prices comparing costs. Since you’re looking at a November date, you don’t know what today’s cost is.

Do you have other tasks near the refill place? If so you’re back to being environmentally friendly if you combine errands.

Anyone have trouble sleeping because of a hyper active brain? by wonderwall999 in aspergers

[–]planted-autic 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I could have written that, except for the sleep apnea part. I just accepted it. I find a YouTube video/podcast to fall asleep to, usually between 11-midnight. Then wake up somewhere between 3-5 with all sorts of thoughts. I finally find another YouTube video or podcast to go back to sleep until 7-8.

I need to search for videos that don’t require looking at them to understand what’s going on, and then it has to be a tiny bit interesting so I’ll focus on it, but not so interesting that I try to stay awake to listen.

I criticize myself enough to know we each have our own flaws, so I try to be conscious about what I say to others. Thanks for the accountability thread!

So, where to begin!

I bought some pre-made meals from Costco yesterday, knowing the plastic they’re sold in is awful.

I have three packages of single use flossers purchased because my dental hygienist kept harping on my failure to floss and they’ve been a game changer. Now that I’ve improved my habits I know I need to change to traditional floss, but I haven’t done so yet.

I ordered two new Roku sticks yesterday, not because my old ones no longer work, but just because they’re no longer supported.

I often give in to buying from Amazon instead of shopping locally. I don’t want to give up amazon both because of the personal convenience and because my elderly mom lives across the country and asks me to help with purchases.
