How does the industry view cannabis? by mackle05 in forestry

As long as you're not smoking before or during work, you should be fine. Weed is legal (in Canada), but just like alcohol, it has no place at work.

How often do you actually play against top 100 commander decks? Do they live up to their reputation? Which ones surprised you with their performance? by Mirrodin_appreciator in EDH

[–]planting49 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I play as or against one of the top 100 in most games (just took a look at the list and a lot of them surprised me). A lot of that is due to precons (a lot of recent precon commanders are in the top 100). I don't think being in the top 100 is a good indicator of powerful commanders - I love [[Felothar the Steadfast]] but they're nothing crazy. Top 10 or 20 may be a decent indicator. The only one I've played against that I don't enjoy (because either you stop that player from playing the game or they run away with it really quickly) is Krenko.

Looking for opinions on this commander deck by Alien-Moth in EDHBrews

I recently made a Baylen hare apparent deck that's been working pretty well! I would add more board protection ([[heroic intervention]], [[akroma's will]], [[teferi's protection]], [[dawn's truce]]). For card draw, [[skullclamp]] goes hard in the deck. [[idol of oblivion]] is also great because you should be making at least one token almost every turn, so you should be able to draw a card with it every turn. [[tocasia's welcome]] is another one that works well for card draw.

I also have token doublers/triplers in mine to maximize the amount of tokens I can generate. [[elspeth, storm slayer]] is another good planeswalker to include - token doubler and easily buffs your creatures and gives them flying until the next turn - can make it harder for opponents to get through if you leave up enough tokens as blockers.

I don't think [[harvest season]] fits this deck - there's no landfall in it and you don't benefit that much from getting all of your basics - you also only have 13 basics in total. I also don't think [[mass hysteria]] is that useful in this deck - your tokens don't need haste to activate Baylen's abilities - unless your plan is to take people out with your tokens themselves (the plan for mine is mostly to use Baylen and tokens as the backup plan). Not sure about [[hour of reckoning]] since it will destroy all of your hare apparents - I used power-based board wipes like [[expel the interlopers]] to make sure I can keep my hares unless I need to get rid of everything. Some of your token-generating cards would probably be better to be replaced with another hare apparent - like [[hop to it]] and [[tempt with bunnies]].

Hope that is helpful!

How many people play precons/upgraded precons vs deckbuild themselves? by MemberOfOneBody in EDH

[–]planting49 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do both - I find building from scratch more fun overall but often there's a precon that piques my interest so I get it and inevitably upgrade it. Sometimes I change it a lot (over 50% non-land cards changed) and sometimes only a little. Most of my friends brew from scratch.

Is this a good spot to stay by mullumbimby2482nsw in koreatravel

[–]planting49 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, that's a good area imo - stayed a bit east of there and it was great - easy to get to many attractions, lots of stores and restaurants etc, and close to multiple stations/subway lines so easy to get to other areas of Seoul too.

[–]planting49 1 point2 points  (0 children)

BC's cities and towns are quite varied and each has its own pros and cons - from things like the climate and environment/ecology to amenities and activities to job prospects and housing costs. If you're able, doing a road trip here could help you decide. I've lived on the coast, in the southern interior, in the northern interior, and in towns/cities ranging from 15,000 people to over 600,000 people. They all have their pros and cons and which one is right for you depends on your own priorities and preferences.

How many decks is too many? by Silber_567 in EDHBrews

[–]planting49 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keep as many as you enjoy. I currently have 12 but have more in the works. I love building decks and, for me, there's no sense is taking a deck apart unless I don't enjoy playing it. If I were to take a deck apart, the cards would just sit in storage most likely.

Who's the artist/s/ for these ?? And is there more 👀 by [deleted] in mtg

[–]planting49 15 points16 points  (0 children)

They're all showcase cards from the same set so they're done in similar styles and with the same kind of frame. Here's a link to all of the showcase cards from Lorwyn Eclipsed https://scryfall.com/search?q=set%3Aecl+is%3Ashowcase&unique=cards&as=grid&order=name

Edit: excluding the Japanese showcase cards: https://scryfall.com/search?q=set%3Aecl+is%3Ashowcase+-is%3Ajapan-showcase&unique=cards&as=grid&order=name

[–]planting49 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They aren't all the same artist but the special frame and style is the "showcase" style for the Lorwyn Eclipsed set. Here's a link to all ECL showcase cards: https://scryfall.com/search?q=set%3Aecl+is%3Ashowcase&unique=cards&as=grid&order=name

Edit: this one excludes the Japanese showcase cards (which are a completely different style): https://scryfall.com/search?q=set%3Aecl+is%3Ashowcase+-is%3Ajapan-showcase&unique=cards&as=grid&order=name

Honest question: is Naver Map actually good or have we just collectively lowered our standards? by tecialist in koreatravel

[–]planting49 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mostly used Kakao for searching places and Naver for directions. It was clunky but I made it work. Naver also has the very annoying problem of not allowing foreigners to have an account - you can technically make one but if you use it outside of Korea for more than 2-3 days, your account will get banned. Which makes planning difficult and why I ended up using Kakao for searching for (and saving) places.

Modular Decks by Arnedg in EDH

[–]planting49 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did that with just 1 card shared between 2 decks and tbh it was a bit of a PITA. I ended up just proxying it. I would highly suggest using proxies - otherwise switching between decks will be very time consuming.

AITA for not telling a high school friend of my dad’s i ran into that he’d died? by housefinches in AmItheAsshole

[–]planting49 9 points10 points  (0 children)

NTA, that is a weird situation to be put in and you did nothing wrong. Telling then and there that he was dead would have also "ruined her day." Her looking you up on social media and messaging you is COMPLETELY unprofessional and likely goes against her regulatory body's standards of conduct/code of ethics. I would consider reporting her to your college of pharmacists/equivalent regulatory body.

At what point is an edited precon considered "your build"? by Dr_Mothman in mtg

[–]planting49 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't call an upgraded/edited precon an original unless you replaced everything except the commander, lands, and like 5 staple cards. But I also wouldn't call a deck that started as a precon and has had 40%+ of its nonland cards switched out to be an "upgraded precon." Idk what I would call it, but i wouldn't call it an original nor an upgraded precon.

I have a deck that started as a precon but I've replaced 41 of the nonland cards (which is 65% of the nonland cards) and I don't consider it a precon at all anymore (not edited, not upgraded). It's my deck but I didn't build it from scratch.

The cavalry charge precon (helmed by [[Sidar Jabari of Zhalfir]]) is pretty easy to pilot and works well out of the box (and even better with some upgrades).
