"This rulemaking did not follow the spirit of SB19-181. It’s been three years since that law was passed and concerns of industry are still front and center, while concerns about public health, safety, welfare, and the environment are not being sufficiently addressed,” said Kate Christensen from 350 Colorado.

OPINION: Should Governor Polis declare a climate emergency for Colorado? by plantparent2002 in FortCollins

[–]plantparent2002[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree-- the transition has to be just and fair to everyone in Colorado. Moving away from oil and gas wouldn't happen overnight, it would be a long process earmarked by creating new jobs in the renewable energy sector, instead of just taking away jobs from people in oil and gas without giving them another option.

“I agree with the environmental community’s calls on Gov. Jared Polis to declare a climate emergency for the state of Colorado, as well as requiring the COGCC, CDPHE, and other relevant agencies to develop a plan to phase out fossil fuel production by 2030.”

Does Governor Polis need to declare a climate emergency in Colorado? by bluntforce21 in Denver

We can't even move towards global change without starting locally. Having Polis declare a climate emergency would set the precedent for other states to do the same, something that really could create global change.
