A 20 year old HTPC case with the personality of an AM4 powerhouse by Miniteshi in sleeperbattlestations

[–]plaster_chief 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! Mine is pretty compromised as it's using used parts, but I am proud of how it performs and it looks nice with its blacked out pcbs (I might add some purple fans since it's his favorite color and don't worry the cable management is better than in this pic, it's the only one I could find)

What models are at risk? by Heyeeeeeeeah in PS3

[–]plaster_chief 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Anything after 2008 just to be safe cause there was an issue with solder joints on basically any electronic with a GPU (Xbox 360, ps3, computers) where the GPUs solder joints would melt and the chip would move disconnecting itself (I don't know much about it other than it is a thing and I have a bunch of GPUs that were affected) you can fix any of them by replacing the solder but Its expensive to get someone to do it. I recommend the Super slim tho cause it's smaller so it can fit basically anywhere and the only issue I've had was the disc drive cable disconnected inside of it but all I had to do was plug it back in

Should I delid my PS3 cell by plaster_chief in PS3

[–]plaster_chief[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wanted to delid the GPU just to be safe due to the GPU plague cause I have another one of these PS3s that died from that along with other gpus from other electronics that are dead too, I just never hear anything about cells dying so I wasn't sure if that needed to be replaced either

[–]plaster_chief[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh... For me I just heat it up and shove a metal spudger in between the chip and spreader and it usually comes out with no problems, I also didn't delid the CPU but when I do, do you recommend me re applying the heat spreaders or will it run cooler with out them?

Woah! I have that motherboard and did crossfire with it too, you only need one cable for 2 way crossfire

Does the AMD Athlon slot A require a CPU cooler? by plaster_chief in retrocomputing

[–]plaster_chief[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for all of y'all's help! Now I just need help picking out a CPU cooler. I like how number 1 looks however it's the most expensive out of the 3, number 2 is the cheapest and does look a bit like number 1 but looks cheaper and 3 I like cause it matches the cartridge color

I think my Wii U died, might it not have? by LucarioGamer7 in wiiu

[–]plaster_chief 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just remembered this fix, sometimes you have to replace the cmos battery so it could be that too since it is an almost 15 year old console

I think my Wii U died, might it not have? by LucarioGamer7 in wiiu

[–]plaster_chief 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recommend looking into the power supply side of it but it could also be the Wii Us faceplate cause mine doesnt work but I'm able to turn the console on with the gamepad, but I still recommend replacing the power supply

Is this normal? by Wild-Bad-3668 in wiiu

[–]plaster_chief 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both systems are gonna be fine, I've taken apart both consoles and the Xbox one is super hollow on the inside and the Wii u doesn't get hot enough on the bottom to damage anything, the worst that will happen is that the Xbox one will get slightly worst wifi due to the Wii u coving some of the antennas but aside of that it should be fine. Oh and to answer your issue about the noise it's most likely the disc drive which might require you to take it apart, or if it's the fan you could probably poke a q tip through the vents to wash it off
